It's fanboys like yourself and your "WoW = Waiting on Warhammer" that helps fuel the WoW vs WAR debate.

DKirby is right, even if WAR isn't WoW.

Warcraft RTS was before Warhammer RTS, Warcraft MMORPG was before Warhammer MMORPG is the only history that matters here.

Apart from the fact they're both MMORPG's that will or have a large playerbase.....

Tibu, nice cartoon.. BUT sad wow ripped of WAR concerning much of the univers

Try to understand that for a Greenskin, a day that starts by killing someone with your bare hands and ends with those same hands being chopped off in battle is a good day!

People compare all new games with WoW.  They are doing it all over various forums with LoTRo and were doing it before that with Vanguard (that one really makes me laugh).

There are a whole lot of MMO players that started with WoW, so its basically all they know...and they have been playing it for years.  Anything new that comes up for whatever reason they compare with WoW.  Not realizing there has been an evolution in the MMORPG genre that has been going on for years before WoW and WoW was just another step in that chain.  It just happened to be the most popular for reasons that dont really need to be discussed here.

Almost all of these games take things from the games before them, if they didnt...they would be really risking failure as software development as looks at the past and builds on that.  Add some new things, improve some things, but this has been happening for a long time before WoW ever came out.

Why shouldn't you compare them? Many ppl (including me) have played WOW so it makes perfect sense to me when some one says "just like in wow...", or, "Unlike wow..."

You could just as easily say "just like EverQuest 2..." but I haven't played it (not alone here) so I wouldn't get the point.

Try to explain why something is fun without comparing it to something.

Compare "Ehhhh It's cool, ok!?" to  "It's like Battlegrounds in WOW but not instanced and over a whole zone!"

    Witch one is more informative?

I believe that a lot of the "dont compare them" mentality comes from people that are ONLY comparing WoW with WAR, or whatever game of the month it may be.

Saying that certain aspects between two games are similar is one thing but its when people say that a game in itself is "just like" another game it comes off as very uninformed and just plain silly.

This seems to happen the most from the "WoW crowd" which is why threads like this even exist.  Look in LoTRo or the older Vanguard forums..same thing.  Its people blindly saying they are clones without any real comparisons drawn out.  I cant really discuss WAR in detail because..I havnt played it...but in almost every case with the other mentioned games you can really rip apart those peoples posts as they are not well thought out, and are very closed minded and usually come from people that dont seem to have any knowledge of the history of the genre.

It comes off as trolling more often than not..even if that is not what the intention was...people reading the comparison posts are often thinking "is this for real?".

The mindset is not unique to gaming though.  Its happened with music as well.  People screaming that one band is copying anothers revolutionary style not even realizing that the older band was highly influenced by something years before them.  Just makes people look silly is what it comes down to.

But, as you did note, comparing features between games is a little different than the whole "WAR is a clone of WoW, OMG!!!".

Dark Age of Camelot beats WoW, EQ, ect. by a long shot imo. Everyone needs to come play DAOC till WAR comes out. And from what I've read, DAOC players will have a chance to get a beta account for WAR.

To have the basis of a comparison mechanism you need to have experienced at least 3 MMORPGs to the relative same extent.

Those that have played just WoW and compare WAR to it (when WAR's not even out yet - to be experienced first hand) , i pitty.

Maybe you have been out of the loop for quite some time....because at least on this forum, this subject hasnt been brought up by a WoW troll for quite a while....and there hasnt been any reason to post links to videos that are 5+ months old that prove WAR isnt like WoW.

In wow fashion however let me leave you with one passing remark

warhammer came out before warcraft and warcraft rips right from it, just like starcraft rips right from warhammer 40k. Blizzard is big on ripping off other things and getting away with it.

Because as we all know, if your idea isn't completely original, then you're stealing from someone else and you should be ashamed of yourself!

Believe it or not, Games Workshop didn't invent the idea of  orcs and dwarves and elves, nor did they invent the idea of having those races in a tabletop game. Ever heard of Dungeons and Dragons? Ever heard of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth books? You think GW didn't use those sources as a bases for its IP?

So what if Blizzard took ideas from other sources for their games? They were able to take those ideas and turn them into insanely popular RTS and MMO games to which all other games of the same genres are now compared to. And I like those games, so I'm not complaining.

Since first appearing in 1983, Warhammer has been periodically updated

    QQ more sad emo *censored*

Go hate-campaign on some other board, you WoW fanboi

    edited for internal censoring.

WAR, its content, its campaigns, its lore, its battlefields, its combat systems and the development of the models are all 10 years older than Blizzards Warcraft, which was originally a rip-off setting off Warhammer.

    Thank you, Tibu.

    Thank you.

If you weren't even alive when Warhammer debuted over two decades ago, please, please, just close your mouth and walk away. Walk away now. Before Alecto, Magaera, and Tisephone fly forth to flay the flesh from your bones and torment you for nigh unto eternity for your hubraic blasphemy.

This is just silly. When Warcraft first came out I remember thinking "Well, War...craft"...I guess they were bummed "Warhammer" was already taken, as they seem to have ....borrowed...so heavily on Warhammers style in so many other areas (visual style, humor etc.).  I thought it was obvious back then they were blatently  playing on the success of Warhammer?

I think the irony truly is lost on anyone claiming that Warhammer looks like Warcraft and not the other way around, or else they're just very desperate to defend WoW.

I was barely capable of connecting two ideas together when I became a fan of Warhammer! (and no I wasn't even born when it debuted either, lol) (and no I wasn't THAT little either when I became a fan )

I was aiming that at the "WAR is WoW repackaged" people.

Really, I think I'm going to have to go postal if I keep hearing that line.

WoW was never a good game.  I read and saw someone post about a lot of people starting with that game, and i agree with him.  personally i started off with DAoC and it was an amazing game with constant content and new ideas being added.  WoW should never be compared to any game.  No game overall should be compared to another!  only aspects of the game.  warhammer was created in 1983 while warcraft came out in 1994, so warhammer had the corner covered waaaay before warcraft....just for those of you that didn't comperhend it the first few times people told u
