WAR meets BloodBowl

Hey, folks, there is a question I have to ask. I think a lot of you will know the boardgame Bloodbowl and since it plays within the same Wold as WAR i was wondering why it shouldnt be implemented, because there are a lot of dedicated fans for both games out there. So, here is my question:

    Examples:

When I said playable as boardgame I meant that players are able to find/buy the figures they want to play with and if two players want to play against each other, they just find a board (normaly they are within towns) and play a game. If it would be with the more complex cup/league rules or without is up to your opinion.

When I said playable with own chars. I meant that each playerchar is capable to form a team with other players of the same race and play Bloodbowl against other such teams. Therefor each player would be granted new skills as they get better within the game, but those skills are only functional within the arena, where Bloodbowl is played. A league would be more beneficial to the game, since there could be more teams fighting each other for the grand prices to claim.

No. Bloodbowl is not set in the same world as WAR. Bloodbowl is set in an alternative universe where the races settle their differences by playing Bloodbowl instead of going to war. Bloodbowl has no place in the "real" Warhammer world.

To use Barnetts "Warhammer is Batman"-theory:

WAR is "Batman Begins" with Christian Bale.

Blood Bowl is the TV-series from the 60s with Adam West.

Just becasue both products are part of the same franchize doesn't mean thay should ever be mixed together in the same product.

    Yes, a resounding yes.

    - It doesn't have to be present at release.

    - It doesn't have to follow any of the solutions you propose.

    - It should be a mini game inside WAR itself.

    - Your characters should add 1 starplayer (each of your characters) option for you, and you only.

    - The mini games stuff should be serverswide.  Don't limit the matches on a server basic.  Someone want to play a bloodbawl game, Leagues and matches to square are meet serverwide, you play VS peoples from any server.

The main flaw of the Bloodbawl games was the difficulty to find a League, players you trust(cheating) to play matches against.  A game such as WAR provides you the ideal setting to prevent cheating, while it would bring you an incredible amount of opportunities.

This "mini" game has the potential to outdo the game.  Anyone thinking it isn't a good idea is smoking mushrooms badly here.  I can see peoples playing WAR only to play Bloodbawls games.  The details and the how of it can wait, it doesn't have to be there by release.  But, it would be hard to find a better mini game for WAR.  Leagues, tournaments, all that type of stuff could be run by Games Workshop themselves with little involvement from Mythic once everything is implemented...and if peoples pay the monthly fee to play BloodBawl instead of WAR(which will happen), all the better for Mythic.  Mythic just have to think of translating the game on the computer, this is a GBT game, so we are talking of a work of 2 months for a programmer, 3 weeks for a 2D artist and whatever else they want to add for a 3D artists.  Add another month to provides calendar tools, playing games tools and limit the progression of a team so it can only play a match per X time based on the selection of whoever create the League...and of course some FFA teams.

Again, a resounding yes.  Not necessarily at release.  This mini game may have an impact on WAR or not.  But it would be nice if the player can impact this mini game slightly (like having access to a starplayer with his character name and see skills/stats on this starplayer similar to his character developpment).

The mini game CAN be more popular then the MMO(even with a popular MMO).  It probably won't be the case, but just the fact that it COULD...the devs should really do it when they can.  And as a lowly flash Game designer, I can tell you we are talking of about 1-2 month of programming for a GBT translation of an existing game, which could turn in a 5 months work in the worst case scenario, for 1 programmer...and about 3 weeks of work for a 2D artist (more teams increase this time)...and then the animation is the tricky part, it could take 1 day to years, depending on what animations you want to include or not in it (you can have a non-character animation for each action, including WHAM-like bubbles between standing or prone pause for a 2D model).  The least fun part of this mini game is the design part.  It takes a designer with no ego that accept to do a porting job, not to include tons of new features...the game exist on the board and the players want it on the computer, it is GBT...so not much room left for a GD to make fun...the unique Starplayer, the gaming room, and how the calendar & tournaments works is where he got some freedom...only the Starplayer linked to the character is actually fun for the Game Designer...and we are talking of a significant job here, not a slight job.  Maybe you want to include a "lock/unlock" feature for some stuff, like whole team, some tournaments, some players you can hire, based on a code Games Workshop can give.  Unlocking a team might require that you buy the figurines of that team or a basic team (player choice), so Mythic with a monthly fee for WAR has an interest in this mini game working, and Games Workshop by selling figurines or whatever also has an interest in holding events and the like from their studios.  Maybe some tournaments have an entrance fee and some product prizes for the winners, just think of leaving some options for Games Workshop to hold the events.

    Yes.

As I mentioned my thoughts about how to implement Bloodbowl into WAR, I was not thinking it would be done straight this way. I thought about a possible way to do the work. If it is made like a better fumbble-version or another way is not important to me, as long as it is implemented. So Iám thinking about writing this stuff to Mythic, because you are right, it would be a major impact/improvement to the game, and therefor a major goody for the fans of the World.

My choice in the poll was missing..... "never heard of it, so no"

Sounds like a small niche item, and not something that would appeal to the larger player base.....

As a matter of fact, there are a lot of Blood Bowl Players, most of them are very dedicated to the Game and would appreciate to be able to play it within WAR, I know because I know a lot of Blood Bowlers waiting for WAR (almost all of them playing/played Warhammer-Tabletop too).

I think it could be a very cool mini-game, as long as it doesn't give out gear or anything. I would like to see it in just for fun, But i doubt it will be implemented.

Agree, it would be a very cool mini game.

It would make a killer stand alone game. I think the market is out there for a fantasy game that is just like instanced battlegrounds.

This would fit right in that category. Just make a ton of maps and let us play with premade chars.  Think capture the flag with a football instead of a flag. Fury's designers might want to think about this as a game mode.

I dont know too much about Bloodbowl other than the fact its a team game like Rugby/US footy, so I voted yes for special chars, I think they should implement something like it in the future but you keep your apearence of your char but you dont have any gear bonuses or special skills (maybe racial ones) so things are equal.

LOL!  Excellent use of the 'WAR is Batman' theory :)

I would agree as well.   As amusing as Bloodbowl may be, I can't really see a priest of Sigmar or Chaos Chosen playing it.

I think it would be sort of cool as a battleground option but definitely not as epic as some people are describing it. It would be cool if it was included as a scenario somehow where it plays out much like a capture the flag game but with a more football twist where players can actually throw and catch the ball and other players will block for these players. I just can't see this blending well if you start throwng in actual positions or league gameplay. It could be worth it to impliment it but my main worry is that it will distract from the actual campaign style of all out war that this game is aimed to deliver.
