After reading all that I have here and then the kid in the Blue Vest at Wal-mart telling me that LotR sucked... I didn't buy it. I waited a long time for it to come out... It was in development back in 1998 when I played my second mmorpg, UO (Merdian 59 was my first).
Well, a writer at MSN seems to think it's great and from his writing (playing several different Mmorpgs at a time), he has the same play style as me.
here is the link if anyone is interested...

Its the best option out there right now IMO, until WAR and especially AoC come out.
I was just really hyped up for it to come out after 8 years + in the making. Back in those days everyone was certain it was going to resemble the UO engine.
Well.... It never came to mind that the Fellowship theme would have been taken to such an extreme. I am not a team player and don't like for a game to force me into it. Thus, I never bought the game nor have I tried it.
The original post was not to slam a game I never played but only to show people here, that complain about the game nonstop, that SOMEONE seems to like it.
I would sound like a complete moron slamming a game I have never played. I based my decision not to play based on statements on MMORPG and from others I know in RL who have tried it.

by the way a lot of someones like it find me a review anywhere that rates the game less than a 80%, most are considerably higher. Lotro is pretty much a shoe in for game of the year unless Funcom really does something with AoC.

My problem is that it is way to oriented toward team play. That isn't my style. I am a solo player... Many have asked me, 'Why do you even bother with Mmorpg's if you solo... Well, I do like some interaction and the occassional team. But I don't want to team all the time. Maybe once in a great while.
YOu know what turned me off on teams? People who ninja loot, loot in the middle of a fight, or worse... The jerk off who ignores the fight completely and runs up to a chest or objective while everyone else is fighting to stay alive.
Nah... teams aren't for me...
Well, considering Lord of the Rings was based on a few people grouping together to get something done would tell you, that you are going to need a small team eventually.
But also this game is very solo friendly. I am at level 32 and have grouped less than ten times.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
Your post makes very little, wait....it makes no... sense.
Its not just "one guy at MSN" who likes this game, its a whole bunch of people.
based on 31 media reviews, LotR averages 87%

You don't like the play style although you never tried it, some teenager told you the game stinks so you asumed that its no good because of that and you read the trolls here...............
Are you new to forums? You know, like 99% of everything posted here on this site is just antagonistic banter between lovers and haters.
Look at the list on the left and find a game which is not flamed on this site, no one I know would buy or not buy a game based on the forum posts here. This is just good forum warrior entertainment. There is precious little discussion happens here unless of course the game gets to the point where 99% of the visitors here just don't give a shit about it.

But....as for teaming remark, what you need is a solid kinship. I can witness several people have been kicked out of mine for behaving greedily, selfishly or rudely without much ceremony. And teaming with people you know from your kinship is an exceptional fun. Just find one that suits your needs, there are plenty!
I play on the Elendilmir server - in fact, I am the founder of a small kinship. The new content update they just released allows much more solo-content, whereas previously it vanished somewhere in the mid-30s. I was stuck at 33 for weeks without the ability to dedicate the time to the longer group quests, but since Wednesday I have leveled to 35.
The game is very solo-friendly overall. There are parts, yes, where a fellowship is required, but overall it's much less than in other games.
I play in nothing but Pick-Up-Groups on Elendilmir (sometimes with one or two kinship members), and I would say I have had the problems you describe 1 out of 10 times... maybe. Normally there's nothing about idiotic looting at all... overall, the worst parts are generally total incompetence on the part of one or more group members, but usually those folks are just learning the game. Anyone who is overly annoying in the LFF or OOC channels gets slapped with my ignore stick.
There's also a high percentage of women playing LOTRO (verified with the in-game voice chat ) which makes for more pleasant gaming a lot of times, as women not only are less annoying and stupid when playing these games, they also tend to be highly competent with whatever class they've chosen.
It's a shame that WoW has turned you off of grouping forever, but my experience in LOTRO says that grouping is actually a fun, rewarding experience and everybody plays their part - almost all of the time.
Good luck in whatever game you've chosen!

That was my question also. Google shows over 12 million hits for LOTRO opinions and reviews, so not like the guy in the blue vest is the only opinion available.
Personally, I think LOTRO is a good game, but not great. Better than most, but it has a ways to go yet. Right now I would rank it ahead of WOW but behind EQ2.
