Good MMO to play while waiting for AoC?

NadrilNadril Member Posts: 1,276
Here's the deal. Age of Conan comes out in about 5-6 months or so and I'm looking for an MMO to play during that time.

At the moment I'm playing WoW (70 rogue) but the game its self is getting boring.

I'm not sure if I'll move games yet or not (already pretty established in WoW) but I'm mostly looking for opinions. I'd rather the game be PvP based.

As far as what I have played:

Lineage II, Guild wars, WoW, Everquest II, Anarchy Online, <insert thousands of korean MMO clones here> and a few other MMOs I have forgotten.

edit: I'm looking at DAoC atm. Would that take terribly long to get established in?

I was in a similiar situation as you a little while ago, except I was waiting for Warhammer, but regardless.

I started my attempt to find something to pass my gaming time for those months with Vanguard, that didnt work out.

I tried LoTRo for the second time (hated it during the World Tour) but was given a buddy key and figured what is there to loose except maybe some free time.

Well now I play basically nightly.  I dont think I have been this "into" a game since WoW was new.  Its not like AC was back in the day by any means...but its the best I have played in quite some time.

I think its the perfect type of game to pick up for a situation like this, where you are not looking for the next huge game to play for years, but something to tide you over for a while.

Works for me...I havnt even been following the WAR info lately...thats how much I am enjoying LoTRo at the moment.

I'm with you, except my game is matrix online and a need a new mmo to play till OB(or CB) of Aoc. I suppose that if LOTRO doesnt work out I'll probbally play Eve since im familar with it and would be a great way to pass time, I feel your pain

No the game is pretty easy PvE wise these days. You can level up fast and start farming and making decent money within a week.

Oh I am looking for a game too. I miss the good old days of SWG where i was immersed into the game and felt like i was living in a virtual world.

Try out DDO, its fun and fast. You can level up fast, you can play slow and still have fun; quests are short , so you can play when you only have 30 minutes to play and still do something. If you havn't yet, check out the free trial... you may like it. But I advise you play a melee character, Barbarian, Fighter, or Ranger... the casters take a long time to get decent.

I've played guild wars. Not touching a game like that where I have to pay monthly to boot.

There really isn't anything good out right now unless you liked EQ2, Vanguard or LOTRO.

LOTRO is boring to me, plus avatar customization is limited - many people look the same at high levels than low levels.  EQ2 is actually a decent game and doesn't look bad at all, but its kind of a been-there-done-that for me.  I just got Vanguard and really like what I see so far, but the community is small and there are still a few bugs (although its not the gloom and doom people say it is).

Not many people talk about Matrix Online.  Is that any good?

The way its looking right now is I'll stick it out with WoW for a bit longer perhaps. I'm leveling an alt right now which is a bit of fun.

I may pick back up a free game to play when I'm bored though, who knows.

I have the same feelings about EQII, I tried that during my quest for a new game.

While I disagree with LoTRo being boring, it is definitely a much more simple game than Vanguard.

I played VG for about two months and really had no complaints about the game other than it was too "big" for a casual gamer like myself.  All of the travel and such, which I hear has changed though.

VG I liked but, I am not sure I would ever recommend that as a semi-short term game to pass the time...its too big for that.  That is a very large scale game where-as I recommended LoTRo because it is just a smaller scope.

Depends what you are looking for of course.    The only thing I wouldnt really agree with is that LoTRo is boring as I am basically addicted to that right now but...thats just personal preference.
