How would I go about playing a Ratonga Ranger?

As I understand it Assassin isn't very ranged based, at least not in the way the Ranger is. Is it possible? Kinda let down that by this good/bad thing I've just run into I really don't see the point in it. Am I missing something?

Thanks all.

if you want a ratonga ranger you can create a ratonga assasin and betray from freeport (or neriak) to one of the good citys. after finishing the betrayal questline and getting enough faction with new city your class  will be changed class to ranger.

Assasin is more melee based but has a few ranged atatcks too, ranger is more ranged based but has a few melee atatcks too (but both are the same old baseclass and share the same KOS achievemnt tree).

Thanks for that, I'm guessing it's maybe not worth it?
Still, kinda cool to have it though. Not sure why they can't let both sides be rangers.

EQ2 adheres to a very traditional high fantasy archetype, within which Rangers are protectors of nature; not just scouts/archers.

Ratongas are evil...maybe the less evil of the evil races, sort of just wicked and devious...but still not exactly Ranger material.

PS my main is a ratonga assassin and I love it, so goodluck with your char.

the betrayal quest is a nice quest and on pve servers its usually no problem to do it. The part with getting faction with  your new city just takes a bit time.

But if you are playing on a pvp server then it will be a bit harder, as soon as you loose your faction with your old city you will be a exiled character that can be attacked by anyone, and you will stay exiled till you have gotten enough faction with your new city (and doing the quests to get faction will be a lot harder if anyone can attack you). So on a pvp server i would not do betrayal unless you have friends that will help you.  (but some players choose to stay exiled cause they like the open pvp that they get  when they are exiled).

You decide if its worth it. I have a ratonga mystic and it was worth it for me. I am maybe even the only on my server. You also wont find many ratrangers.

The problem is, once you played a ratonga and liked it, then there is only one race to play :P And you dont have any chance but to betray if you want to play a "good" class.

my ogre ranger still is my most unique fun char (but i found out that even for that combination there are a few more on the server).

Its really fun if you get invited to a group and they only know you are a ranger and then a big ugly stealthed ogre with a bow shows up. That alone was worth doing the betrayal quests...

I tried a Half giant Ranger, I died a few times on the noob zone. lol  I was getting frustrated by then wondering why a ranger does'nt at least have ONE self heal??

Anyway I shelved him at lvl 8.  I then rolled a High Elf Wizard and literally owned the noob island at lvl 8 and I'm still wondering why it was like that.

Are Rangers slow starters? Do they or Assassins even get a heal? Do any of the scouts get a heal?

I'm trying to have my account to have an alt from each class,so far I have a fury/monk/wizard.   Not sure what to do for a scout/rogue..

I believe Dirges are the only scout class with a self heal ability (actually they have two, and both are attacks that hit for low damage and heal you for a low amount of health at the same time).

  • Stock up on cheese for starters. :D
