hmmm....im not willing to pay anything since i will only be having voice convo with 3 or 4 people max. And as for ventrilo i heard u can sign onto free servers?
I really don't like voice chat during games, but if I do voicechat I will only do it using Skype. It's a much better voicechat program. You don't need a server to connect to, it works like a regular instant messanger but you just talk using voice.
Trust the people that have said ventrilo is the best. Teamspeak's vocie quality is horrible and takes up a lot of resources, while ventrilo gets the best voice quality and lowest resoures.
well ive narrowed it down to ts2 and ventrilo now. Im only goint to be having a voice convo with a maximum of 3/4 other people not an entire clan or guild and i dont want to pay anything or rent a server. I just want a free channel or server and i want the program with the least CPU usage and least bandwith usage so that it doesnt affect my game and for reasonable quality sound. So which should i go for ts2 or vent?
I'll second some of the other posters and suggest you try Skype. It is free, probably has the best sound, is simple to set up and has a nice interface. However, the person starting the conference should have the best computer as it can put some strain on the computer. Still, I've used it for a few year now and never had a problem with it.
Personally I've used TS for over two years, and it's done just fine by me. Some of the guildies (who I know are 3000 miles away) sound teriible, some sound great. I suspect the wildly varying opinions of sound quality have a lot to do with things other than the software; your net connection, your hardware, sunspots, who knows.
I'd say try them both out and then decide which one is best for your group, you'll need to come along with a consensus.
I suspect that the first one you try will be the last, though, because just hearing voices and being able to communicate naturally, especially when your hands are full with playing the game, will so radically improve your game play that you'll be blown away regardless.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
I have used TeamSpeak for several years, and LOVED it. I never had any degradation on gameplay, even when raiding in Anguish (EverQuest1)... It was flawless in EQ1, PSO, PSU, WoW (talking to EQ friends while playing WoW, never met a WoW player that liked TS, oddly...)
When I started playing WoW, people were all using Vent. It was kind of culture shock, in EverQuest people all had tried Vent, but saw it effect framerate, so always went back to TeamSpeak. But in WoW, you use Vent or you don't voicechat.
2 weeks after I started using Vent, I stopped doing voicechat.
I hate it that much.
Seriously, TeamSpeak is the better software. I swear 90% of the people saying otherwise have likely not used both enough to really know what they are talking about.

KSEA players often seek out PVP in a game, but they are looking to socialize with and form alliances with other players who are interested in doing the same. They often seek out guilds or clans that organize formal PVP events, or work on group strategies and tactics.
btw for skype can u do voice chat with more than 1 person at the same time? my final question is in ventrilo can u get free channels and servers like ts2?
i think im going for ts2 at the moment :P
btw the reason i needed to compare them in advance is so that i can let my friends now in advance wat program to download and use and spread it in the guild hopefully. The game is cabal btw.
I've used or hosted most of the Voice Chat's listed and I have to say Ventrilo is the better one, though TS2 is a very close 2nd. The people that hosted my TS2 were awesome and I'd consider doing business with them again. My guilds Ventrilo supports about 100+ people a night.

But really depends on your guild and what game you're playing.
If you're going to enjoy socialising with the guild... even if you end up with a voice chat you don't like... you might as well use it, and try and have fun..

Ventrilo is by far my favorite if you are going to be renting a server (which I recommend). If you are looking for a place that is (relatively) low cost to rent from you should check out nationvoice.com, I've used them for a few years and they have awesome support (though I rarely needed it) and the best prices I found. Also have almost no downtime and plenty of locations so you can get the best spot for you.
I used East Coast Gaming Network for Team Speak and they were amazing.

Have you guys heard of GameStreet Talk? Its very similar to TS and Vent, but does not require a server and its free like the others. It allows you to create as many personal channels as you want and your friends can use them. It also has instant messaging built in. It still relatively new, but looks like something worth looking into. Here is the web page: http://www.gamestreet.net/gstalk.aspx
Given that the responses are split pretty much down the middle, and everyone is posting "X is better, anyone that says different is a total newbtard" I think the real answer is it depends on your system.
Many of my guildies swear by Vent, but I personally think it sounds no better than TS. I like being able to set the volume of each spaker (in Vent,), but the overall sound quality is the same to me. Vent also lags out my PC when i run it in the background, while TS plays much nicer with my system. I know that some guildies have just the opposite experience. If you really want to find the best one for your system, I think you would do well to try both.
In fact, most of the larger guilds I've been in have servers for both.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
