Just wondering how long Lineage II will actualy go on for?
I understand they were nearly finished designing Lineage III but then someone got sacked and now they have to start from scratch. I imagine because of this, they will need to improve Lineage II.
I have also heard roumours of 3-5 big patches over the next couple of years instead of the crappy ones we usualy get, one of which is the new race.
I fear with the new games coming out, Lineage II will fall.
Anyway, simple question and just want some info from the other players who are concerned too.
Thanks.

12, well i hope that is true because thats fantastic news.
Yeah i totally agree with you. If they just make a few changes to the graphics, maybe the swimming too (swimming into the cata is a joke), then it will be even better.
But with a game like Aion coming into the light, i think they may just upgrade Lineage II graphics. If not... well...

Well, of course things can change over time. However they "did" say 12 Chronicles. Now they are saying that they are renaming them and that they "plan" on updating L2 quite a bit (something to the effect of L2 on sterroids). This was in an interview that was posted on the official site.
Whether or not their idea of "advanced L2" is the same thing as our is another thing.
L2 will last for quite a while. Heck... look at the first Lineage. There are still people who play it. As far as Lineage 3, that is a bit more schetchy. It wasn't that it was almost finished. However, it seems that it was far in the developement when some employees sold the code (according to an online article) and therefore they were sacked. But then their is the rumor that some employees were sacked and then all these people quit.
So there is quite a lot of rumor.
L2 has always had a hardcore playerbase. I'm sure it will always have players. But you bring up a good point in that there are some very intriguing games coming out and NC best be aware that they are going to have to compete.

Lineage 2 will be around for a while. Considering how long people spend leveling their toons, it is hard to believe they would just all get off the servers and quit anytime soon.
L2 will last as long as people keep buying adena.
Once adena sales start to fall off, adena bosses won't be able to afford to pay their farmers. Farmer subs will drop off, and i don't think NCsoft can afford to keep NAL2 up and running without all the accounts that exist solely for RMTing. NAL2 only has a couple hundred thousand subs anyways (if that), and NC has plenty of L2-sub stealing other games planned (re: L3, Aion).
What it comes down to is that NC will have to figure out some way to keep real players buying adena without scaring too many off in the process. These things are in equilibrium now, but it will get harder and harder to keep them balanced over time.
The real question imo is whether or not NAL2 will last long enough to see all the chronicles that the Koreans have planned. Interlude marks the beginning of the second half of the game's scheduled updates. Which means they probably have another 3 years or so of upcoming chronicles.
I've said it before, but i think that L2 was planned from the ground up to be largely dependent on RMTing. With this in mind, i think that NCsoft has set shrewd plans into place to keep the game running at least that long.
Do you actually believe this is true? Conspiracy theory much?
How can you say that when their largest playerbase (Korea) have close to zero problem with RMT?
The game was designed for a larger playerbase than the one we have in NA, that's a fact. To answer the OP, and like others said already, there was 12 chronicles planned at the beginning, so I believe the game still have a fair amount of time ahead of it. Add to that the graphics aren't outdated even though the game is out for 3 years.
Yes

If you've reached end game L2 i'm sure you've seen the corruption there. And even with gamehaqs.com down the NAL2 botting community is relatively strong. And if you've ever even looked up adena on Google you will get thousands of results.
I know i usually meet some resistance when i bring this up but i'm not just pulling this out of my ass.
One, the game's mechanics are particularly conducive to botting. Look at the Prophet and SE classes. Look at the grind (which is notoriously known as one of if not the worst of the entire MMO genre). Look at places like the catacombs/necros which are basically little obstruction-free rooms absolutely perfect for botting (thank you C3) /edit: at any level!.
And then look at where the game originates. I'm not saying anything bad about Korean or eastern MMOs, but the Korean gaming community simply doesn't turn its nose up at botting and RMTing like Westerners do. It's part of their culture. Everyone does it.
I think that the L2 admin's utter indifference towards botting and RMTing speaks for itself. Flames erupt even here on mmorpg.com about how they ban legit players and not botters. I myself had an account banned for botting long before i had ever even considered downloading walker.
Adena sales have come down over the last couple years, but people still buy. Botters are all over the place. One of the primary reasons people never make it past the free trial is that they never run into any "real people". Think about how many subs RMTing generates for L2. I'm sure NCsoft appreciates it.
If this game hasn't been deliberately engineered to encourage botting and RMTing then this is quite possibly the most unbelievable set of coincidences that i have ever seen.
Yes I reached end game, and I know most of people getting there either ebayed, botted, got powerleveled or bought the account (did I miss something?). I despise cheaters, and I have to admit that I hate competiting in oly against them, but well I love this game and I live with it.
Now we're talking about 2 different things: Botting and RMT.
As far as botting goes, I'll quote a korean who plays on korean servers (source):
About RMT, that's another problem. I agree when you say that's part of eastern MMOs culture, but still I find it hard to believe that NCSoft planned it since the beginning... This game was in development during 2001-2004, when the RMT thing was practically non-existant. And Korea has far more subscriptions than NA, where the RMT market seems to be the strongest.
Well that's an old debate anyway and it'll become even more of a problem in the next MMOs generation.
Fair enough Cryo. Ironically i was going to link something from L2guru about what westerners would consider corruption on Korean servers, but i'm at work and don't have it in front of me. And now that i think about it i remember them talking more about RMTing not botting. You've probably seen it, it's that "What makes L2 L2" page that Hellrose? made.
I don't have anything to back this up but i never thought of RMT as something that has popped up just in the last couple years. Sure it has grown a lot recently, so has the MMO genre. The RMT scene is just keeping up.
Even if L2 wasn't originally planned as an RMT game (i still say it was), i am absolutely convinced that NC has knowingly and intentionally pushed it in that direction since.
