Merging the 3 pvp servers into 1 pvp(ffa) server cannot be allowed to go ahead. I originally started vanguard on the ffa server and got sick and tired of getting mugged by kids with nothing better to do than annoy players minding their own business while crafting. Consequently I moved to another server, Frengrot Team PvP, where I have been happy apart from the severe lack of player numbers. The server mergers are a must, without the the game cannot survive. I'll even gladly take the hit on my ping to join a US pvp server, but making the only one a ffa pvp server is damn right unfair. For starters, of the three servers only one is ffa. Hardly democratic is it? Secondly, a ffa pvp server is not what the majority of pvp players signed up for.
Suggestion:
Merge the 2 Team PvP servers Varking and Frengrot and let Tharridon crack on on its own. Give Tharridon the option of free character transfers over the coming months and I'm sure they'd rather take the plunge to team pvp. This way the move is voluntary and keeps the peace. The current proposal will see many people (myself for one) walk.

Of course, a lot of stuff VG has done has not made sense to me so this is just one more.

Maybe they looked at the numbers and determined that Tharridon (ffa) had more players then the Team servers?
Can you back up that FFA players are the smallest demographic? It's been my experience that a lot more people prefer open ffa to restricted team based. Usually on a team based server it's the people that I'm teamed with that I want to kill the most.
The problem may be more in the game then the gamer. I don't think there are any really good ffa pvp mmo's out there. L2 is a great game but not the best for open PvP when you have harsh penalties. Something NCsoft has even tried to correct.
I've been busy in EQ2 the last couple weeks and the number of players that have exiled is crazy. Even exiled one of my own toons so I could kill and be killed by anyone.
As guild established themselves on Tharridon the random ganking slowed. Most guilds on FFA pvp MMO don't usually allow for griefing, and enforce rules on thier members. It's one of the dynamics of a ffa setting that makes it more fun then a team based one. Guilds wars are more fun then randomly killing another person because they are on another team. Just my opinion though.
Wish Darkfall would release.
SOE all ready stated that there are 1/2 again as many players on the FFA server as on the team servers - that means that even the team servers combined barely amount to have the pop on the FFA. Now I don't agree with how SOE is doing this, but for you to come here and start telling mistruths about the current server pops to try to get some kind of support from people that frequent this forum...ex-players, bashers/haters is not right. This is not the way to go about persueding SOE to do it another way. Doing it this way makes you look like you are trying to make SOE look bad. They are trying to work something out - it is very difficult and that is why they have not yet come forward with a definate plan to merge the servers as of yet. What they have posted so far is what they'd like to do and will most likely do.
This BS that team servers have more players then the FFA is not true and this poster knows it.
The problems here are two-fold:
1. The combined populations of all three servers were apparently low enough that they could safely be merged together to create a single healthier server, and
2. The only way this merger could have been done is Team-->FFA instead of the other way around, due to player guilds.
The first part of this-- population-- is the bread and butter of any MMO. For SOE, it seems as if the lesser of two evils is to merge all of the PvP servers together, in spite of the outcry from the playerbase, because at least then, the option for PvP would still exist at all. From what I can tell, the three servers combined, in terms of numbers, could co-exist together on the same server, consolidating resources for the developers, so they made a rather tough call.
If they did it the way you're suggesting, that would be two low-pop servers slowly bleeding subs due to lack of players instead of just one stronger server. That's twice the resources for them to spend, when having just one server, and one ruleset makes it easier on their end to fix any and all PvP issues. Sure, it sucks for the players in the short term, but from SOE's standpoint, it's something that has to be done for the long-term survival of PvP in the game.
Because of the first issue, the second became a necessity. If you have to merge PvP servers to get a better population, the easier way to go about it is to merge every other ruleset into FFA. In Team, guilds and players are split into factions, while in FFA, anyone can form a guild as long as they're like-minded players. If they'd merged the other way, most of the FFA guilds would have been ripped in half, which would be an even bigger outcry for SOE than what they're hearing from the Team players now. By going Team--->FFA, all of the guilds can remain intact, and the devs can work on fixing the game.
I totally feel for the Team players, since it sucks to lose a server. But for SOE, the long-term benefits clearly outweigh the short-term drawbacks of doing this.
Our guild decided to move on FFA and we are going to adapt. It will be hell for the 1st week, but later on, it's going to comes back to normal.

Hey, calm down fella. I have not come on this forum spreading mistruths about server populations. I never even mentioned anything directly about server populations. I merely expressed by disgust at 2 Team PvP servers drawing the short straw against 1 FFA PvP server. I can totally understand the dilemma Soe have in that FFA servers have a pvp based system that is governed by guilds, and it would be incompatible for them to merge into Team based pvp server. It may also be true to say that the ffa server is more populated than both team servers combined. However this is not the point. At launch there were 3 types of servers to choose from. Now they are suggesting there will be 2. Where does that leave those who subscribed to the one that no longer exists? Are we just supposed to bite the bullet? Its ok for established guilds within the ffa servers, but what about those from team servers that will essentially become "open season game"?My gripe with the ffa server was that there simply was not enough protection against morons. Guards never battered an eyelid at what can only be described as blatent murder!!! The game needs more exclusive changes from the pve servers to make a ffa pvp server a happy place to be for the majority of pvp players.
Incidentally, not that you play the game or anything, but what if it was the other way around and they combined your pve server with a pvp server? Would you stand by idol and watch it happen? Enough said ....I fancy
