No D&DO isnt going to be free anytime soon(i dont think) , but imo i think it should, i mean turbine have basically ditched it and focusing on lotro!
they would still make money aswell from people who buy it!
D&DO should be F2P!!!
There should be some kinda physical punishment for making posts like this - i mean, can you back the red marked words up? is it just something you pulled out of nowhere?
Even when DDO was finished and Lotro was still in development, DDO got monthly updates of good quality. And now as lotro is also finished i just dont see DDO being ditched. why would it?
okey, so i went alittle far with the punishement thing, but hopefully you know what i mean
Uh, yeah, free is better than pay any time. Except who pays the programers, the marketers, etc.? Would you work for free? Not me. Have you checked out some of the f2p games? The difference is..... I'll leave it at that.
Many people complain when you have to pay monthly for a game. They think "hey guild wars is free monthy, why can't every other game be?" Well, the answer is that F2P games lack all of these points:
1. It has virtually no in game support.
2. They rarely add new content without selling an expantion pack. (Which means they game changes what, every 8 months?)
3. They don't take into account any player requests/issues.
4.The company has to limit it's staff due to lack of income.
Overall I'd prefer to pay knowing that the game will constantly change.
DDO should have been F2P, and people could buy 'modules' or 'adventures' that would be equivalent to the P&P modules friends buy at the store. These modules would run around 5 bucks each at most. (since more than likely there would be groups of 4-5 buying them, that comes out to be about the same as some friends pitching in and getting an adventure at the bookstore... assuming they cost around 20-25 bucks at the store... just guessing).
On top of that, turbine could have released a module-creator piece, and have fans create modules for submission, with the promise that the creator would get a cut of the sales. Turbine could take the modules, dress them up a little, and release them, cutting their costs considerably.
DDO, despite what anyone thinks of it, DDO has to many positive aspects going for it to even consider being free. I can't think of any F2P game that has the DnD level system, actually aim a sword to hit an object, as well as decent lore and great graphics. I think aside from rehashing old wounds, DDO and its style of gameplay IS NOT FOR EVERYONE, and it shows in the all the hater threads.
If you really want to play DDO, pay for it and quit whining.

It might as well be. This game had so much opportunity, and.....failed.
I may pick it up if it was free, but who knows, their is so many better MMO's out on the market. I expect to see this at the 5 dollar bin at Walmart sooner than later.

There aren't that many better MMO's out there in my opinion. I have played alot of MMO's and a majority of them are far worse than DDO. The only things I see DDO failing in is subscriptions, otherwise it did the best it could implementing DnD rules in a MMO setting, in my opinion.
I have resubbed to DDO recently, and am having more fun than I ever had. Great guild of roleplayers, casual questing, skill based combat. One of the few games that keeps me from falling asleep at the keyboard. It's obvious it's not for everyone, if it was it would have been made in the likeness of WoW or EQ, instead it was made in the likeness of something unique like DnD.
