Ok.. YOu must be young..
When you get older and get a job you will want to keep a steady flow of money. If you were a game developer, you would want it to. MMORPG's require round the clock maintenance to ensure it lasts. So the people who are doing the round the clock maintenance need to be paid on a steady basis. Now if we make the game free to play per month, would those people still be paid?? NO YOU FREAKIN RETARD THEY WOULDN'T AND THEN THE PEOPLE WOULDN'T BE PAID!!!! *sigh* Look, a game thats free to play a month is either a very basic junk game or one supported by a company who wishes to gain more members due to overwhelming amounts of retards who whine about monthly fees.
Look any game out there like this is going to have a monthly fee... the ones that don't are either crap, or possibly excellent (guild wars only for that last reference). I want to play a game thats managed on a regular basis. we don't need another Diablo 2 with tons of hackers!!

Yout entire post just brought me a tear of joy, all my thoughts summed up nicely into a little ball of rage. Very VERY well posted. Nothing to add since it's all been said, but some things I want to make sure get supported.
First off the games that are free to play, usualy are exactly like you said, OR have very few people maintaining the game, let's say mech warrior 4. There may be at most 1 employee actualy payed to support that game's online play, all the other people are vollunteers, and thus it gets hacked and patches stop getting released for it. So if you want a game to get patched and improved over time, SOMEONE has to be making the patches.
Now let's look at Diablo 2, that game DID get patched, a LOT got improved a LOT and did you know the entire team of people from blizz who worked on D2 was less than 5! Yet, the game gets hacked a lot, as do their other titles.
So when it comes to paying a fee, I gladly do, because I know that since I'm paying, the company is putting more people on staff to prevent hackers and improve the game. I HATE playing in games where there's hackers. Even worse than that however, I hate PAYING to play in games where there's hackers... Planet Side for example... DAOC and it's radar hacks... MOST companies that charge you a fee to play however do a pretty damn good job of keeping hackers out, and since Blizz has the experience of dealing with hackers, and outsource 5-10 people for their b-net services per game, I'm more than content shelling out $12-15 a month for the amount and quality of employee's they'll have updating and monitering WoW.

So you mean the devs, GMs and all other that work on and with MMORPGs and often work 10+ hours each day doesn't have another job on the side and just making this on their free time?

Well, not the dev team for SWG lol. They must have been working part time cause 1 year later and the space patch STILL isn't out.

LOL don't you need to pay plaync to play guild wars, and done't nc charge like £8.10 or $14 to play. HEHEHEHEHE...
As for world of warcraft, anyone know or can guess how much they are going to charge. I am guessing about £7 or more. It would be excellent if it was £4. (numbers stated are aproxamate, so do not qoute our comment on them about inacuracy)
