Looking for suggestions in finding a new game

Like a few of you, I'm stuck looking for a game to play.  I got into MMOs with EQ (shortly before the RoK expansion first came out), and have played most of the major MMOs released since then, whether it was for months/years or only stopping long enough for a cup of coffee.

Also like a few of you, in the years since I jumped into EQ I've gotten married, had a couple kids, and generally become a casual (few hours a night, few nights a week, off-and-on over the weekends) gamer who either solos or plays with a small group of like-minded players who know that sometimes you gotta get up and change a diaper or rock a kid back to sleep.

What I'm looking for now is a game that I can get into that doesn't require a massive investment in time and energy that maximizes the enjoyment I can get out of the time I am able to spend in-game.  What would just be the cat's arse right now would be a game where I could own a piece of property, maybe do some resource harvesting, maybe a little crafting, maybe raise some critters and breed them with other critters (with some sort of faux-genetics in the game to be able to breed for traits), maybe own an inn and where players come for a little RP and R&R as a break from the game, etc.  Something where I could maintain a decent lifestyle from these endeavors, supplemented with a little combat when I feel like it.  Something with a good RP community.

Anyone know of a game out there that would let me be a farmer or innkeeper or crafter with a way to sustain said lifestyle almost exclusively through these endeavors.  Something where I don't have to be grinding on non-trivial items all the time, on 8 hours a day in order to progress, or stuck only making items that the top guilds in the game want to supplement their power gaming?  Something where while I may not be on the front lines, there is a deep and epic story going on around me, creating a world ot RP in?

Or are games just for relaxing and having fun like this just not out there?

I suggest playing console games then, since most of the MMORPG are a time sync , and are all far to alike, for instance I play WoW which can be played pretty casual, some play too much however if you play at your own pace you can get anything, It took me about a year to get 60 on my druid which I made during release, but I don't let the game take over my life, then I raided a few hours a few days a week and managed to get epics. But if you tried WoW and want something really casual, I picked up oblivion for my xbox 360 and play it off and on when I don't have enough time for WoW.

If you go for something a little more sandbox and play more for the RP than becoming uber for an "end game", there are some games you might enjoy. Don't know of any where you can run an inn, or experiment with genetics (the Sims or Second life maybe?), but there are games which you can make your living in as a crafter. Eve, if you like Sci-Fi and spaceships or maybe look for an RP guild in Ryzom or Horizons.

    Serious reply this time.

If you want to own you own house(can be used as a shop and decorated) and mess about with creatures then Star wars galaxies is probably your best bet, it can be a grind to reach top level but all mmorpg's are a grind. Grinding to level 90 can be done easily though if you have the resources and enough credits for a few elite harvesters then use a macro to speed things up. They have recently added the beast master profession which is avaliable to all classes, you can create pets and mounts then sell them to peeps.
