I am in the same boat as you. I honnestly am just waiting for the next gen mmos.
Looking at WAR , AOC and Tabula rasa looks interesting. Just sick of twiddling my thumbs waiting for a good game.

Making so much noise you dont know when to listen.

You are exactly where I have spent the last 2 weeks...

Currently I am playing about in several games... here is my findings so far...

Be forewarned, I am very very picky, and will admit things I do not like... but I will also tell you to try for yourself. I would hate to see you miss a game you could have loved because I hate mouse-click movement.

    Lord of the Rings Online

I liken it to WoW mentality, done differently, but about the same. Anyone that is done with WoW... 6 months and LOTRO is gonna do the same with you. You might like it, you might hate it. I do not like it at all.

    Final Fantasy XI

In terms of game, it harkens back to older MMORPGs, however, I just learned this AM that if you leave for a year your stuff gets deleted. I will not be playing this one anymore.

    9 Dragons

This is one of the Acclaim Free games... the design is good, the graphics are nice, prolly the best made free games I have dealt with... but the "click with your mouse to move, attack, and everything else" control scheme turns me off really badly. If you can live with the mouse click, it seems to be a very engaging game, and is VERY well worth a look!

    Sword of the New World

Another game with most excellent production values... reminds me alot of the Final Fantasy console games from PS2 and newer in several ways... but I hated Final Fantasy after it left the 8-Bit NES. And I hate mouse click to move controls... but if you can adjust to the controls, it is beautiful, and nicely made.

    Last Chaos

This game feels so much like Lineage to me... it is crazy. If you like Lineage, try this one out.

I hated Lineage... so no dice for me...

But the game is another that is QUITE beautiful, and very well worth a look.

    Dance! Online

This is NOT an RPG at all. However it IS Massively Multiplayer and Online...

Basically this is Dance Dance Revolution. Online. For free.

Sounds retarded, yes. But it is also the most fun I have had online for the last 2 years.

Off-topic? Yes. But I discovered this game through the Acclaim site. It is another of their free games. And honestly, although I will likely never play 9 Dragons again, it was worth the download JUST to discover this gem of a game.

    Guild Wars

This one was really alot of fun... for a few months. Again, if you ate through Warcraft, you will prolly eat through Guild Wars just as fast. But with no monthly fees, it is worth taking a look.

    City of Heroes

I picked this one up too. Havent really done much with it, but I have a weekend coming up. We will see how this turns out.

After this I think I will either head off to try Vanguard, it looks like it is coming along and starting to not be bad at all... I have a good friend that is loving it... or go back to EverQuest 1 for a few months. Most of the people I used to play with are gone now, but I know the game inside and out... maybe start a new level 1 Ranger and play about... not sure.

I am VERY MUCH looking forward to Age of Conan.

    Give it a look.

Until it is released, I have no idea how good it will actually be... god knows 5 years ago EQ2 SOUNDED like the second coming... and when finally I got my hands on it, I did not know if I wanted to laugh, cry, or just throw up... but Age of Conan SOUNDS amazing... I am reserving my right to get excited until it arrives.

I'm kind of waiting too.  In the meantime though I'm playing a bit of Dungeon Runners and Guild Wars, since they are both cheap/free to play.  Guild Wars is a lot of fun, but quite a bit different, from the WoW experience.  A bit more heavily PvP based than WoW is.

Depends on your taste, some MMO's are fun... For a time. The majority currently on the market Ive found have little capacity for enjoyment. Meaning after a week, your wishing you never wasted that $9.99 on a subscription. So! My advice is, DO  NOT BUY UNTIL YOU TRIAL! If you cant trial? Wait, it wont be long before one is out.

    Whats on the market?

Lord of the Rings Online, EVE Online, Call of Heroes/Villains, Dark Age of Camelot, Guild Wars.

I really wouldnt bother trying anything else.

For all of you who are coming off a MMO that you have spent a lot of time with over the last months or years – some very good advice ->

Take a MMO break for at least a month.  Don’t play any games, but if you must try some first person shooters or RTS’s or a single player RPGs.  Ideally I would suggest some time with a fun shooter and some time non game related.

Give it a month or two and now is a great time for that while we wait for all of the new MMOs coming out “soon”.

Trust me, if you do this and then get back into MMOing you with more appetite the new MMO.  If you just jump into one, other MMOs will not be as fun as they could be.

    Hey Mate,

Firstly congratulations on breaking away from the awful WoW. In my opinion it is such an overrated game and i cant stand it. If you are looking for fun, enteertainment, 3d graphics and a brillaint community then my opinion is that you should join Flyff, Or Hero Online. Both games provide hours of fun, quests, and like all MMOs plenty of grinding.

But with the communtiy the grinding is not noticable you can have fun meet up with mates while training away, the community is always willing to help a noob. I hope this helps out mate.

Remember your life dosnt have to revolve around your computer, take a break once ina  while, go out and enjoy time with friends and colleagues, MMOs were designed for fun and not to keep you sitting indoors all day locked up in the dark. I offer my advice from experience and whether you choose to act on it is up to you. But remeber your computer and the MMOs will still be there when you get home

Extremely good advice.  Burnout makes all MMOs seem dull for a while.

I've been in the same boat as you ever since I quit WoW back in December.  There's really not much out there in the way of MMO's that is going to compare to WoW in terms of good PvE and balanced PvP.

All I can say is, don't limit yourself to only MMORPG's.  There are other MMO's out there.  If you've heard of Savage, Savage 2 is entering beta soon, and all pre-orders get in.  It's quite an interesting game, definitely read over the website.  Their in-game and out of game guild tools are extensive, and they have integrated voice chat.

Edit:  Here's an article that I believe appeared in PC Gamer Magazine.  It gives a good description of how the game works.  Also, the first player made video recently came out.  It's the last stage of alpha, so make what you will of it.  I think it looks pretty damn good.

    You like the PvE?

Try CoH and CoV, different style, much better rules, much better system...

Not sure.  If you do that, you become tolerant to weakness that will still be unacceptable in the long run.

Such advises are short term, they don't envision the long time appeal a MMO is supposed to have.  Bugs which are really getting on your nerve may be ignored while you starve...not good...not good at all.  The devs after they think these bugs are okay, and they consider them normal in new release...see raiding in case you have any doubt.

Same boat here.  I feel like I did everything TBC had to offer in WoW.

I am currently playing Vanguard SOH.  I beta tested it for a few months, then played it on release.  They have fixed alot of the bugs, and I can run it now on full settings.  Its a nice game visually and I love the gameplay, but most people will not like it, so I wouldn't recommend buying it.

I have alot of friends playing LOTRO now and they love it.  I will prolly check that out soon.

    Games im waiting for:

    TCOS

    AoC

Tabula Rasa!!!!  <--I didnt get the beta invite, but I hear its amazing
  • johnnychangsjohnnychangs Member UncommonPosts: 261
Also, make sure to apply for the betas for all of the following games:

    AoC

    Warhammer

    Gods & Heroes

    PotBS

    Tabula Rasa

If you're lucky, you may get into the beta of one or more, which gives you something to tinker with until they are all released.

City of Heroes has been my constant 'stand-by' game, I've gone back to it many times when the newness of the lastest, bad but shiny, game has disappointed me.

Sorry, but what the heck are you talking about?  tolerant to weakness?

How is taking some time to get into other games and other activities tolerant to weakness?  So if I play a game 8 hours a day for 2 years and stop, are you saying the game has a weakness?  That it should of held my attention longer?  Lets say 12 hours a day for 10 years?

Man I really hope this was a sarcastic post.

I hate WoW, overrated, lacking in the RPG part of MMORPG, but I love Lord of the Rings online.. superior quest system, better grouping, easier to solo, and the story system is fantastic, it is not perfect, but most fun I have had since the original EQ

    Playing EQ2
Quit - LotRO, EQ, EQOA, EvE, FFXI, DAoC, TitD, AO, AC1, AC2, AA, CoH, CoV, D&L, DS, DDO, EA, GW, HZ, IW, L1, L2, M59, UO, MoM, MoUL, N2, RS, RO, RoE, RYL, SB, SO, SWG, MxO, UO, VSoH, WoW

    First of all,

Thanx for all the replies, i've been reading through everything, and some names just kinda impressed me. I've taken a look in Age Of Conan, wich seems to be a realy good game. Other mmorpg's didnt inpressed me a lot to be very honoust.

For the record; I did not locked myself up in my room ^^, I went out to bars, discothekes ect, and had pretty ok grades @ school:).

So to end my search i have 1 question; Wich game will probally be better? Warhammer Online, or Age of Conan.

ps. I Realy loved the pre-tbc with 40-man raids and hardcore pvp.

LOL, now this is the current question of the ages, and you'll see numerous threads debating this very point.  The real consideration for you probably is, which one releases first?  AOC is scheduled for release around Oct 31st of 2007,  WAR not until April 2008, (and both dates could still slip).

I'd recommend trying AOC when it comes out..and play it until WAR comes out later.....

As far as new MMOs, I'd say look towards the current favorites AoC, War, Tabula Risa, maybe even Hero's Journey if they can get their boat launched. image

    Such aggresivity.

You say to take a break and come back later.  So you miss it and then find them nicer.  I say this is bad since you will accept weakness of design you won't accept in the long run.

As to making it a personnal example, I didn't do so, you did.  8 hours a day is a LOT.  I was just saying that no matter how much or how little you play a game, taking a break so you won't find the bugs and flaws as bad isn't a good idea, not good at all.
