I want to MMORPG AGAIN!!! - Former Ultima Online Junkie

I played UO since it was released for a good 6 or 7 years. I LOVED that game. I tried EQ and it was decent but no quite UO.

I am waiting for PotBS to be released.

What can I play in the mean time... I want fantasy medieval if possible and don't mind a monthly payment or buying at a store...

What can I play?

Well I personally would say play around with COX,LOTRO, or any of the many F2P (free 2 play) mmo's until PoTBS is releaded if not UO itself. I am in the same boat waiting for AoC or G&H so i'm prolly going to start playing some free to play MMO's might even give guildwars a shot.

    Games Enjoyed: UO,EQ,AC,EQ2,COX,LOTRO
    Games Played(-Above):WoW,MXO,GW(beta),RFO,ArchLord,V:SOH,Rappelz,Ryzom,DDO
    Games I felt were a rip-off: DDO,ArchLord,V:SOH - all newer how ironic

Shadowbane is a good game.. There isn't any carebear type stuff that you see in newer games.  I am a former UO player also.  Check it out, you might like it.

So many games to play out there its really not to hard to find one that you would like.  When you said I tried EQ and it was decent but no quite UO.  All i can think is that if you are only looking for a game like UO then play UO...  The point of you going to another game is to have something new.  Correct me if I am wrong.

Stealing from people out of town just to provoke a fight.... running to town to escape COR POR gankers.... I love my UO.....

Lord of the Realm Online is free?

Is it a download or a box retail?

    What is COX?

Also EQ was enjoyiable and I am up for something new and different but it was just not as fun to me as UO... Also UO sucks now.... already tried to play it... Kingdom Reborn is just semi-3D ninjas :)

CoX is City of Heroes/City of Villains.  As far as what to play, I'm not sure.  If you don't mind switching over to a Sci-Fi setting Tabula Rasa is coming out this fall (currently in closed beta, which you could sign up for as well) and is made by the creator of the ultima series/ultima online.  It's more PvE based though, which may not be what you like.

If you buy LOTRO, you'll regret it, IMHO.

But don't take my word for it:

My advice... take an MMO break altogether.  Check out Command and Conquer 3, or if you have a PS2, check out God of War 2.  Whatever you do, don't go into a different MMO with the expectations that its going to fill the void of your old one.  You will more than likely just be disappointed.

Thanks for the advice. I am playing Caesar 4 right now!

Guess I just wait for PotBS but it is getting hard!

Can't you just go back to Ultima Online if you were happy there?

And there are probably some free to play game that looks similar that you can try.

No UO is carebear hardcore now... I can deal with a little bit of it but not excessive amounts like EQ and WoW where dieing means nothing.

    ...where dieing means nothing.

Care to die meaningful? I mean, come on. It is so really important, so exciting and meaningful for us if you die.
    Ok, it was a joke.

Do you really believe, that if you anonymous guy die, you have any effect to anonymous us?

...where dieing means nothing. You played UO, so you must be fukkin old. Either you are a poor little being, or you really experienced some "meaningful" deaths.

Darkfall is your best bet!  It is basically the only MMO out there that resembles original UO.  There was rumors that it was vaporware, but recently they just anounced beta and they are on pace to put the game out sooner than most people expected.

Didnt your mother ever teach you " if you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all"? He didnt once say anythign about dying meaning alot, but in UO, if you died, you actually lost something.. ya know, it gave you a reason to not want to die. in WoW if you die 20 times in a day, yo ulose a handful of gold. UO, you lose everything you had, unless you are lucky.

And OP, ive played  20+ MMORPGs in  the past 7 years. Ive had fun with a few, but nothing that comes close to old school UO. i remember being so awed when id see "Glorious Lord ____ , Grandmaster Mage". i picked it up again since then, and it doesnt take much to get that now.. the thrill is gone..remember when PvP didnt exist? it was PK? and not an option? run for your life when you see a dread lord or the words "Corp Por" over someones head? haha id give anythign for those days to come back

They made a game like old school UO some years ago but people didn't want to play it.

You had your chance, now shut that pie hole.

Well, i just started playing UO again last night after quiting 2 years ago and I personally have fallen in love with the game once again. But for a good medieval game get DAOC. This game is pure medieval in every aspect. You capture castles and fortresses, use siege weapons, It's an amazing game. You can ride mounts and craft weapons and armor. I suggest start with that game it will medieval suit you well.

I feel your pain.  I was a UO junky myself.  I tried WOW, and LOTRO but they didn't do it for me.  I dont think theres a game out there that will be comparable to UO for me at the moment.

I've wanted to come back to you the past few months, but then i see the %'s, elf chars, crafting which is now a joke.  Basicaly it wasn't what I use to play.  I can't bring myself back for some reason.

Hope you find a good game to play some day.  If you do, let me know!

Couldn't agree more. You need to check this game out. Absolutely must.

    To the OP (original poster):

I feel you mate. UO was my first love too, but I quit the second trammel came out and became a carebear game like most games out there. Then I spent years trying all the rubbish out there, nothing could replace it. Some games had ok-ish pvp or "world" but nothing like UO.

If you buy any "current" game, believe me, you'll regret it. As a former UO fan to another.

The only hope is Darkfall. The "new UO" if you will. Besides that, a couple of pvp games that are gonna be released do not provide a true "world". Not War, not AoC, no nothing. Only Darkfall and if it isn't released (which it will cuz as someone else said they're going into beta soon), we'll go into another decade of nothingess.

Oh, one more promising game might be Guild Wars 2. (Guild Wars in an open environment). And since the pvp, instanced/arena style but pvp nevertheless, in current guild wars is very well implemented, GW 2 looks very promising too. So you can either take a MMO break, or try 1 of the 3 games of GW series to check it out, while you wait for Darkfall. Besides, Gw is only b2p (buy to play) and has no monthly subscription so if you don't like it you won't have wasted a lot of money.
