Anyone else having the same trouble as me?

Star Wars Galaxies was my very first 'real' MMO I played, as a big fan of Star Wars I just loved everything about it, although it could've contained more star wars than it actually had in the beginning, it was my favorite waste of time.

My main SWG character means everything to me, he was created just the way I wanted and it feels like he's my other half, I've even considered switching my real name to Aserhe Ostaho to honor him! It might sound extreme in your ears but I've honestly heard crazier things.

I met my wife in this game, she and I are married now, this game means a lot to both of us, a lot doesn't even explain it, more like a whole lot.

Me and my friends who played that game still hang out together in Xfire and Ventrilo hopping from one MMO to another, but as soon as we mention Star Wars Galaxies it is as if we're dealing with a family members death. We reminisce and get depressed and low key for about an hour...

I just wish they would just pull the plug on it, it's tormenting me that SWG is still around with the 'NGE' on it, it makes me want to play, but if i do, I spawn in Mos Eisley and i see 27 newbie jedi twitching their heads around with wooden sticks in their hands...

...

I do not wish Smedley and the other Sony Fatcats anything good in any way!

Sony wrecked my game, and I think Sony wrecked a piece of my life as well...

I'm never going to be over it and none of us should ever be over it.

That doesn't mean we can't move on at the same time.

The abuse of the SWG player by SOE, LEC, and their accomplices should never be allowed to be forgotten.

Ahh it's funny you mentioned that. I was just talking to someone yesterday about it, and how we both miss it like crazy. There was so much to do, and it wasn't just grinding quests (granted, there were hardly any to begin with, and the ones that were in had bugs I believe), it was doing anything you wanted. My main was a ranger/CH/pistoleer, and loved it (before CH was nerfed). After that I decided to try swordsman ... got bored tried fencer ... after that tried lancer ... and it kept me going! I guess some people just don't like a "complicated" game, so that's why they changed it. People couldn't learn? HAH! More like, people are lazy and didn't want to try to learn. Sigh.

I have soooo many screenies too, that I keep around, and will keep them for a very long time.

I have a whole harddrive full of screenshots still haha, but whenever i look at them i get all teared up inside.

And you're correct with what we had in the game, no quests whatsoever, except the Theme Park ones ofcourse, hehe those were great. You really felt great after you got done with the Imperial Theme Park and Jabba's Palace one :) Crap loot but it was cool to see the characters from the movies.

I'd be all up for the positive side of the NGE, the quests especially, but they didn't have to shrink the diversity of the game of having 32 different professions down to 9... or change the combat... or make it so your character couldn't mix whatever he/she wanted... ... here I go again, now i'll go on forever if i don't press the 'post message' button...

I can not for the life of me understand ya'll.

I've played this game since release and I've adapted to all the changes made. I enjoy my time in SWG now as much as I did in the past.

Negative emotions are not healthy, I worry about some of you from what I see in your writings. Really, being angry at a *game* is just, well, it's silly and unproductive.

Come back to the game and enjoy it for what it is or just let it go and move on.

While I still miss Pre-CU, my toon and SWG community - and while I still think what happened was incredibly wrong and unbelievably boneheaded, I would say I'm over it.  Coming to the realization that SWG was never going to morph into a reasonable facsimile of the Star Wars IV universe was what enabled me to get over it.  No smuggling, no capital ships, no ganglord faction, not a single boardable space station, some would say no real GCW; we can all produce the list, so I won't continue on.  My point though, is that when I realized that those things weren't ever coming, or if they did come that they were delivered in underwhelming quality - well it was enough to let me walk away.

In fact I'm pretty much over MMORPGs in general, as the kind of buffoonery that was the SWG Project Management seems to be the norm rather than the exception in that genre.

Yeh, I've moved on to other MMOs, but I'm still not over what happened.  SWG was my first MMO, and I enjoyed that it is different than other MMOs out there at the time. (I heard of it about a year before it was released, and I went online and check out the information and I thought that it would be cool to see and play something that was new.

Ever since the NGE destroyed my game, I've been searching for a game to fill the shoes SWG left, and found none...

My friend is already on the edge whenever he hears me mention SWG (he's a WoW lover, and didn't like the way SWG was.  So when we are discussing about MMO designs, and I mentioned SWG, he gets annoyed and told me to shut it... ).

I have friend who still plays because it is Star Wars, and I can still use the account that I gave him to check on SWG once in a while...  Makes me sad when I log in...

I hope that somewhere, a better company with enough funding would create another Star Wars MMO with good skill tree systems that can make this NGE crap go away...

Oh, to those who still plays SWG and comes here to tell people to get over it and move on or get a life, take your advice and move on out of this thread yourself... if You have nothing positive to offer other than your meanless antagonizing words, no one wants to hear them.  Some people are passionate when it comes to their hobby, and they are emotionally attached to it (like people who play sports, who play board games, and who plant flowers, who raise a pet... it's the same idea).  So when people are telling their stories, you want to reply, just say sorry you feel that way, and leave... Don't antagonize them for the way they feel.

    Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR

Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)

Kick him in the balls and tell him to never mock a sandbox game. That and to actually waste more then 30seconds learning the curve of a game.

That being said i cant say i'm over it either. I'm just so tired of all these wow clones with the exact cookie cutter setup as WoW. Its a slap in the face to every gamer out there who actually appreciates a good game with heart and soul.

Also, even if there was another Star Wars MMO in the works by someone whom is NOT $OE... i just dont know if i could touch it. All the time and money invested into SWG and for $OE to throw that all to the curb... blah. Also i'm sure LA had some say in it and i'm hesitant of them as a company anymore.

Yea I miss SWG. I played since launch but after the NGE I only lasted a little while longer, partly because I didn't like it and partly because everyone I was playing with left! Right now I'm playing EQ2, which I like a lot, but there was just something about SWG that made it special. It was different than everything else out there. I hope someone makes a new one some day, although the original needed more content/storyline for things to do.

  • Ycochal-intYcochal-int Member Posts: 13
Yeah I miss the old days, played what 2+ years... it still bugs me that the game in the box i bought was not  hello kitty adventure island/ carebear wow clone it is now. Heck I play wow... it sucks compared to the fun I had in swg. game is a game... and a product is a product but when I bought orange juice and someone gave me vomit (nge).

Every time I deal with the issues that come with having leveled characters in a game...

Every time I play a game that does not have a good system for guild members helping each other out....

Every time I play a game that lacks a good method of meeting others...

Every time I play a game with limited choices of things to do....

Every time I play a game which involves spending a lot of time getting to where one is trying to go only to have to start the journey all over with "death"....

Every time I find myself solo-ing my way through a MMO...

Basically, every time I play a game that does not live up to my expectations for MMO after playing the pre-cu version of SWG...

I wish so bad that classic servers were offered.

  • I used to be a real SWG junky myself but I seriously think some people are exaggerating a bit. No offense, but nobody died or anything.

I could not agree more with the intent of this thread.

I keep renewing for one month...I get excited as the music starts then I get IG and well I run around...kill a couple of things and then jump into space...which for me is the last bastion of the good parts of the game. Then I go and sit in my house and log. I have done this 4 times now. IT WONT leave me alone. I loved that damn game. Now every time I go back it makes me very sad.

My only real wish is that some company grabs the thrown away ideas from pre-cu swg and make a great game based off of the good things in it at that time. IDC what the universe is, kung fu, highlander, gobots...just have real people, real professions with a great mixture of boxes and some great missions with a real reason to be there. Customizable toons with non wow cookie cutter armor and non nge cookie cutter profs.

Yep it wont let me rest.

I am sure I will renew in the next few months just to be disappointed again.

I use to be very angry at what happened to SWG and how SOE basicly screwed everyone. And for a very long time I use to post and vent like mad on these boards. After a while I realized that it wasn't really worth getting a ulcer over so I made a deliberate effort to just let it go. Just like the old George Harrison album said, "All Things Must Pass" and SWG has passed beyond even being a blip on my radar these days. It's just a game based on a movie. What's done is done and what potential this game once had is lost. My advice...just let it go. It's not worth getting ill over.
  • RydesonRydeson Member UncommonPosts: 3,852
c'mon people it's only a game..  Welcome to SOE product.. SOE has a track record of taking a good game or a game with potential and making it worse.. Rather it be EQ1 or EQ2, or even SWG, all of them saw better days.. SWG biggest problem was PvP ganksters wanting their game vs, PvE players wanting theirs.. SOE vision of the game wasn't there..  They changed directions like a wind vane in a hurricane.. Whoever yelled the loudest in forum normally got their way..    AS LONG AS it didn't conflict with the devs personal pet favorites..  SOE devs had a bad habit of tailoring the game to their pet favorites.... Even in EQ1, the shaman class often saw perks only because it was the favorite playing class by one of the lead devs..   POLITICS..

Pre NGE would be great if ONLY SOE would listened to their playing base..  I played an entertainer since day 1 on launch..  I was a master musician, one of the first original NON macro'ing on my server..  We expressed our wishes weekly and 95% of them went NOT only unfixed, but IGNORED completely..  We never got answers to our questions, even the simplest ones..  SOE's position is, 'If you don't recognized the problem, it will just go away"..  Well needless to say, customers just ended up going away..

TEF's  were way to long..  What was it again 15 minutes?  Tell me.. How does a master PvP Rebel combat medic camping the city know that Imperial TEF billy bob just killed 3 rebals in a camp outside of town when he was 700m out and never saw it.. ???    PvP gankers loved camping faction mission terminals, waiting for TEF bait to appear..   Covert scanners HURT the game..  Crafting was bugged.. Macro'ing became the way to play.. 70% of the characters logged on were "afk"  macro grinding..  That should NEVER have been allowed.. NEVER..

The list goes on and on.. all leading to the 2 major changes..  There are ways to correct ALL those problems and then some..  The problem is, making those changes mean that PvP players will be limited and SOE devs were NOT in favor of that..  They wanted a full blown GCW PvP game, and there just arent' enough players that wish to play that way..  I know I wasn't..

I'm over it and never looked back.. As I said.. SOE loves messing up games, they did with EQ1 too, and others.. The only reason why SOE stays in business today is because of the "variety" of games and the Station Pass subscriptions.. If SOE was forced to charge a separate 14.95 for each of their games, I'm sure EQ1, SWG and Vanguard would be "closed for business", and EQ2 would be on life support..

    It's just a game people.

Quit  kicking this poor horse, it;s dead already.

Lots of people liked it including me. SoE's not giving it back, no matter how much people whine.

    So just let it go.
