I don't understand how you can make an MMO's combat look totally fluent and real. The only game I've seen that, would be hack and slash games, where you can constantly control when you swing, block, etc. This type of control is nearly impossible in an MMO because of balance issues.

the latest video of the month was the FIRST video to use the lighting tool(its called "now THATS a login screen". Everything else is alpha footage. Chew on that..

How does this constitute a balance issue if everyone can do it?  Just because someone is better at button mashing, doesn't mean the balance is off.  Skill comes into play somewhere along the line.  Sorry for going off-topic... bleh

Yeah, I wouldn't see a problem with real-time combat, in fact I'm all for it, because the combat in most MMO's seems clumsy and clunky at best... like in that WoW beta video. People just stand there and receive hits. Nevermind the shield, parrying, moving around, and whatnot.

I hope Age of Conan, if not WAR, changes that in the genre for good, and for the better. If devs think that type of combat system wouldn't appeal to a "wide audience" then just include both types of systems in the game, maybe one for casters, the other for melee, or something like that. 'Cause like someone else said, animations in general, in most MMOs, just look like crap when it comes to combat. And WAR is all about combat, so I hope it has some good-looking animations and a dynamic combat system to boot.

They doesn't jump around, can't be WoW PvP then!

It's a bit fast to judge a game from a movie made in alpha. Kind of disappointing trailer, not the usual Blizzard standard.

It's a balance issue because of lag.  You don't want all the people who are lucky enough to live in a Verizon FioS region to be slaughtering all the poor saps stuck on a Comcast cable modem.

Eh.  I'll wait until I actually play the game (hopefully with a beta spot!) before I give it up and thumbs up or thumbs down.

Was kind of interesting to see the old WoW beta footage.

from the footage i've seen the combat looks like crap. but like you said it's still early and things change, but tiime is running out if they are going to release the game when they want to. but yea the gmae sounds great and the graphics look cool, but when i see combat vids they totally turn me off.

This thread makes me sad because it reminds me of when I was excited about WoW's release. Now I am a terrible cynic when it comes to MMORPGs (which only very partially because of WoW).

slow or not it doesnt matter it still looks like wow.  graphics, interface, even gameplay looks like wow.  who knows maybe its better i dont know only time will tell.  even though they started makin this game before wow you think they would change it a little bit.
