Yeah was sort of wondering what that Island would be like as first i had similiar thoughts in how it wouldn't be fair towards the rest of the game when someone decided to jump of the island to get in the full game which at first didn't indecate the game itself would be as optimized as the trail would be, but the following made clear this wasn't the case or meaning of it all
We have some folks asking questions about the trial island plans you announced in your recent game update. While some folks find the trial island a great idea, others are viewing it as "dishonest," giving an optimized preview of Vanguard that has not yet become reality in the live game. Can you tell us more about how the trial island will work?
- Shayalyn
The trail island will be a free demo. It does not replace any of the existing content. If you buy the box or the digital download, you will start in a normal newbie zone and you will never see the trail Island. If you decide not to buy the game but instead decide to download the trail island, then you would only get that experience and it would be in place of the regular newbie content. If after that point you like the game, you would then be transferred over to the regular content starting at whatever level the trail island caps off at.
There’s no good way to answer the “dishonest” question. We will do our best to make sure the optimization tricks we learn from the trail island make it to the live game ASAP. In addition, art will finish the island before design populates it, so while design is populating, art will be optimizing the existing game. So [by the time] the trail island does go live, the rest of the game should be much better. Keep in mind programming is still working on optimizations as well during this time. If we never optimized the rest of the game starting now, I think [the folks who say the trial island is dishonest] would have a valid point, but that’s not the case.

As long as there are two different code bases, there will always be room for suspicion. That is why the
"dishonest" accusation surfaces. While It is highly unlikely that the trial island will be radically different
from the "real" code, using two code bases gives the appearance that a bait and switch tactic is being
used. Whether you like it or not, SOE still has a problem with trust.
That said, it is to SOE's advantage to keep the code bases in synch and as close in functionality as
possible. Customers who have been misled do not stay long and their word of mouth can sink a
I will try and compare with beta. But it looks to me like those terrific trailers of bad films. One you have paid your ticket then realize the film has nothing in common with the trailer. Personally I think it is scamming possible players, because that starting are is a "pink glass" of the reality of the game.
Seems you have missed the following "......"
No, I have not missed it.
But I am too cynical, old, been lied too many times or all of them.
If you do not like films simile lets try a car one. Imagine you are going to buy "Dupper 1.4 standart equipment" and the vendor shows you "Dupper 2.0 turbo full equip" and tells your experience will be the same with both cars. I do not know you, but I am not going to belive him. That is "Newbie Island" to me.
For anyone keeping score Sony is 1 for 1 on updates, batting 1.000
As a new player to vanguard i love it ,in a week i hung with a gm showing him a bug, and went to a Q&A ingame session with a DEV. I think the community support is outstanding.. don't flame it till you've tried it..
I'm still looking for the raid content... LOL. If you know were it is (beside test center) please let me know.
I SWEAR: the game is not about raiding. Heck, there is very limited raid content! Ha ha!
I would never -ever- play a game all about raiding.
Vanguard I think is all about the small group (2, 3, or 4 people) adventuring in dungeons, caves, small camps, and so forth. You can solo so much in the game, though. I think it is more solo friendly than even EQ 2.

I think thats just symptomatic of lack of ALL content... TONS of content in this game. I mean, TONS. You have to go out and explore the world, though. It is not a linear game. It is not, OK, level 5 to 15 I will go to Blackburrow, a dungoen. Then 15 to 20 I will go to this camp. Then I will go to this dungeon 20 to 25.
The options are almost seemingly endless. You have many and varied choices from group, small group, and solo content. You have many dungeons, on different islands and continents, to group, solo, or small group. SO many different camps, caves, you name it. You really need to get out there and explore. I have found finding some content to be difficult. But you would be astonished by the amount of content in this game.

Overall i'm still thrilled that SOE is going to implement a free trial of Vanguard. A tip of my hat to SOE for this & stepping in the right direction. It's a good cautious move to keep this free trial isle seperate too to keep possible exploitation minimum. It would be nice if like EQ1's Escape to Norrath, still needs to include the Drakkin, you could transfer your toon to the real Vangaurd game once committed, but to me the priority isn't advancing my toon as much as evaluating whether or not Vanguard is worth the effort/investment & it's perfomance. i'm sure this free trial isle will be optimized as much as possible to entice potential Vanguard players, but that's what Gnome marketers do after all. i for one plan to utilize this generous SOE offer then decide whether or not to rejoin the world of Telon.
Its nice to see a trial but its too bad its seperate from the main world. I know the first trial for EQ2 was slightly misleading and I wonder if this trial will be as misleading as that one. Still nice to see a trial implemented. Now I will be able to decide for myself if I like it or not but with a grain of salt due to it being seperate from the main world.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

I'm betting even moreso as EQ2 was not as bad off
