Knights of the Old Republic: Online +#3 says G4TV

Now I've never watched and I'm not sure how credible this is but it's enough to make me raise not one, but both eyebrows:

Hope it's the truth! Cheers

    I hope this is true.

    I love Bioware's work.

However, the thing that pisses me off the most about Bioware is that they make a great game and then they hand off the sequel to Obsidian who does a bang up job of trying to follow up Bioware.

KotoR2 was buggy and they left stuff out. It wasn't nearly as smooth as KotoR1.

The Neverwinter Nights games are a mirror image. Granted, Obsidian is smoothing alot of things out with NWN2, but NWN2 was horrible at release.

Hopefully if they really are developing a KotoR MMO they'll have good character customizations and non instanced player housing.

From the bioware forum from a bioware employee dated Monday, 05 March 2007 08:56PM:

"How about I prove you wrong by saying that we are not working on KotOR 3 and have no plans to start? It may be a rumor or w hope or w wish or whatever, but we are not currently working on KotOR 3 and we have no plans to work on KotPR 3 at this (or any afaik) time."

    Then another guy says:

"To echo Chris: if it's being done, it's certainly not being done by us."

"If I recall correctly, LucasArts was developing KotOR III internally at one point and canned the project.  That's likely what prompted the statement.  Of course, my memory isn't the most reliable source of information."

    Read carefully.

Well if they decide to work on any MMO, it will be at least a couple years before it is out.  There is a lot more work in writing a MMO than just a rpg.  So I would not get your panties in a bunch about it.  So many of these MMO projects never see the light of day.

umm am i missing something here?

Earlier this year, BioWare announced the formation of a mini-studio devoted to developing the new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic MMO.

is it me or does that statement right there trash their credibility? i might be a little behind the times, but since when did Bioware announce that the new "mini-studio" was created to make KOTORO?

They never did.  What they DID say is that they are making an MMO based on a completely NEW IP.

how on earth this new IP became translated to KOTOR Online is beyond me, but I think its funny and shows how someone can say something and the public takes it the complete opposite.

I haven't really kept up on anything but I thought that there was a KOTOR 3 but someone else was making it and that BioWare didn't want to work with LucasArts again. That is why I do not think there will be a KOTOR MMO and not sure it would translate well to be honest but it might. Also things changes and companies make up so they might take on someone elses license again but the last thing I remember hearing from them was they wanted to do their own thing.

G4, while entertaining at times, is not a credible source. They constantly get things mixed up or just flat out wrong, ESPECIALLY, with the Feed.

When IGN, GameSpot, 1up, Gamesrader report on something like this THEN you can start getting your hopes up, but not with G4 guys. Sorry, but at this point, I'm going to have to say that the game does not exist.

Well, I certainly will try the KOTOR MMO.  But whoever develops the next KOTOR RPG better take into account the stinking, steaming pile of crapola that was KOTOR 2.  You just do not take the best elements of your predecessor and toss them into the garbage can in favor of recycled graphics, maps, and systems.  Playing that game was like watching the corporate deadline shrink towards you and then cut you off in the middle... they could have used concept drawings for the last 20 play hours of that game and it would have been less transparent.

For crying out loud, the game didn't even have an ENDING.  If there ever was an example of good game gone shitty, KOTOR --> KOTOR2 is it.

    haha, pc's weren't mentioned.

to be honest kotor 2 was better in many respects. bioware are best at the storylines and characters though. i think people are pretty harsh to obsidian, they wouldn't notice any difference if they thought it was made by bioware.

Bioware have denied the creation of a starwars MMO.

It's not like Bioware even made KOTOR2 (awful game), and were more focused on Jade Empire (which was awful, seriously awful), and i got the collectors edition with the monk.

KOTOR2 (notice they dropped the "live content" on this), was like bioware had given Obsidian a module like program a la NWN, to create the game. Still had some of the same bugs, it was the same graphics, same gameplay. With a few new things. I hated it, the ending.. i remember the xbox forums lighting up on how bad it was.

Nothing compared to after Halo 2 ;)

I still remember when Bioware promised new planets and fantastic new content, that will continue for months on KOTOR, and all we got was a pretty poor spacestation.

Oh yeah.... i hope this franchise dies a death.

Now Fallout 3, i'm excited about, and a Fallout MMO would be better than this tripe. Bioware, isn't as good as the hype tells you, they're not really close anymore. They must reprove themselves in my eyes, hopefully with mass effect.

Which respects?  Can you give me some?

It had the same level of graphics, often used the same maps, contained some of the very same bugs that plagued KOTOR 1 (like long load times), and had large, gaping holes in the storyline.  And no ending.  I can think of no single way that K2 was better than K1.

LOL I totally agree. Devil May Cry was one of my all time favorite games on PS2. They haven't recaptured the magic from that one yet... with any of the sequels.

The topic of this forum was KOTOR: online + KOTOR #3.

As far as KOTOR: online I seem to remember reading somewhere that Bioware was focusing on its own IP for the MMORPG.  The creative arts job posts seemed to suggest a fantasy based MMO.

They dont say anything like that. they say NOTHING about their IP. and this job:  http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/jobs/positions/austin_producer_licensor_liaison.html    points an outside IP.

No it doesn't, so stop spreading false rumours.   All that job points at is that they will be dealing with an outside company in some capacity.  Which we already know, since they are using the Hero Engine.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

While I'm hoping that it's a Star Wars MMO cuz Star Wars deserves a proper MMO to do it justice... let's face it the property lends itself very well to an MMO especially in the hands of a very capable development team who understand Star Wars... but I wouldn't be surprised if it's something totally different and we're all gonna be let down heh... or maybe plesantly surprised.  I hope they will let some news out at E3... 2009 isn't THAT far off afterall....

Well.. I wouldnt call it spreading rumors..  Id bet my bottom dollar that their MMO is a KOTOR mmo.  Besides.. they DID dispell the rumor of them making KOTOR 3 on their forums but said nothing at all about a KOTOR mmo.
