Character Suggestion

britzbanbritzban Member UncommonPosts: 260
I know opinions on what character class is best can vary from person to person.  With that being said I'm not going to ask what the best character or realm to use. I need to know what character class has the most power and quickness combined based on fact from veterans experience. Suggestions?  Please!

Like you said, this comes down to a matter of opinion and on the play style.

What kind of play stile do you prefer?  Do you want ranged damage? Casting? Melee?

Do you want to creep around as an assassin invisible till you attack, or maybe you're one of the hybrid using people?

Another reason why you won't get a proper response is because if there was 1 ultimately awesome class to play people would just play that and forsake the others.

So until you give up some more information this is the best I can do.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Best class is very subjective.  I'll give you some of my opinions on "bests":

    Caster:  Eldritch

    Tank:  Armsman

    Healer:  Healer (midgard)

    Support for melee:  Shaman

    Support caster:  Sorcerer

    Hybrid:  Friar

    Archer:  Scout

Assassin:  Any, although many would argue for infiltrator

    Other:  Vampiir and Reaver

    Powerleveller:  Bonedancer, Necromancer, or Vampiir

A couple of significant notes:  Vampiirs cannot use stat buffs, so if you want a character that doesn't need a buffbot (2nd account) to be competitive, they are great.  There are many other classes that when used out of the typical "box" are more effective than what I listed above, however I am being very general.  Many of the expansion classes like Warlocks, Heretics, Maulers, Valkyries and Savages are excellent too, but I feel they are also very prone to nerfs and disappointment.

Lastly, I am not sure what you mean by "power and quickness," so I am going to assume you are talking about overall power and quickness to level.  For that I would have to say something along the lines of Friar or Vampiir.  That said, nearly any class levels quickly now days.

Thank you for the replies.  I actually started a bunch of different classes to see what I like best and have fell in love with the Infiltrator so thats what I'm going with.

Be warned that infiltrators become one of the more difficult classes to level (and rvr) unless you have a bot or tons of potions later in life.

I love my NS, but it is also the one toon I hate to play.  The reason is that level 40/45+ your career as an assassin is essentially over.

So here is the basic problem:  It is an ability called Mastery of Stealth.  It increases stealth detection radius and movement while in stealth.  On the surface this seems ok, but not in how it works.

    1.  MoS does not increase the radius of one assassin seeing another assassin.

    2.  It grants archers the ability to see assassins.

What this means is that outside of giving you faster move speed, it is of no use to an assassin.  On the other hand, the ability allows archers to shut assassins out of RvR.  Archers will be able to see you from a distance (you might see them before they see you, but that won't help you).  Archers can then shoot at you while you are stealthed.  Once hit you will pop out of stealth.

This leaves the result of either you being killed by the archer before you can get to him (I have been killed with 2 shot from a bow outside of /face range while stealthed), other enemys near you now that you are poped out of stealth come after and kill you, or on a very rare occasion you can once he is about to shoot, drop out of stealth and melee the archer to death if he is solo.

There are also NPC assassin guards that will go after you at keeps.  So, between MoS and he guards, you will not go near siege.  What you will be left with is the following at level 50:

    1.  Get a buff bot and hang out in small assassin groups camping bridges taking out solo/small group targets.

    2.  Get in a small assassin group and hunt other assassin groups.

    3.  Try going is solo and bridge camp.  You want for a caster to come by and kill him.   This is slow and painful and usually only involves killing dumb and impatient players like me.

    4.  You go to the Labrynth.  From hiding in small areas and getting on to of objects, combined with the cooridors you can avoid many archers.  Then all you need to do is pick off the solo person trailing behind the larger group quickly before anyone comes after you.

I am hoping that assassins will get fixed because they were fun before MoS was added and they are fun until you get to Leirvik when archers start to get MoS.

Yep, you are probably going to hang your infiltrator up before you hit Molvik (lvl 39 BG).

Before I uninstalled the game last week (for like the 10th time in 6 years or so) I was in CV (the level 49 rvr battleground) and there were 11 hunters on at the same time....

There were also TONs of thanes running around. My FOTM radar was doing nuts

Personally I would roll a hunter.
