How Empty?

With all the free time I have right now and nothing to play I'm thinking of picking up vangaurd. With all the improvements hopefully coming it is starting to look very appealing. How empty does the world feel right now and are there server mergers coming up soon? Thanks for the info.

Yeah, EQ2 looks pretty appealing and LoTRO didn't really keep me wanting to play. I don't have any intention of buying VG for sure, just was trying to find some things out about it. Thanks for the advice.
Check back after server merge. You should have no trouble telling when that's happened because of the upsurge in trolling it will inspire. Most servers are rather underpopulated right now, and the situation is likely to be better and more enjoyable after merge.

But serious. The population is low and the landmass huge.
eugam is right. Large landmass can make it appear more empty then it is.

i think Enigma has the right idea. Wait till that free island trial is released then dip your pixel toes into the Telon waters to see if it's to your liking before spending $ on it. Too many of us did that & feel some degree of burned. Server mergers & hopefully SOE's true intent to better Vanguard will all be heading this way soon too. When thinking of Vanguard i sometimes remember that adage, "Content is king!" So besides mere player population there's where broken quests & density of game content that could use attention. It might be sluggish, but hopefully Vanguard will begin getting improvements. Then we all can discuss wether those are good &/or bad. No Reptilian race though is just blasphemy, hehe.
I for one love it, the graphics are unbelievable and I never crash. The content is insane..... I've been playing since lunch and have yet to see all the world and find a new thing almost daily. Also the Boats are sweet, the flying is sweet, the Combat system is one of a kind.
Casters and move and cast,
Rogue/Stealth system is unbelievable. (Rogues stay in stealth the whole time)
It mainly depends on the server you head to, Im on Flly. (Rp server) and its packed all the time. I find a group with in 10 mins of searching and there are a a lot of guilds as well
Lets not count mounts at lvl 10 which are 40% speed
The class are sweet and have a few unique ones as well, Psi, Bloodmage.
And since SoE has taken over this game has grown about 10% the cry babies
Also!!!!!!!! some other features I love
-The Detail in low lvl items are crazy.. they look real and just shine
-The environment is crazy cool, like a trippie dream
-All the Mobs have extreme amount of Detail and all looks sweet.. better way to explain it is... picture a epic mob in WoW thats a normal mob in VG times 5
-Combat system makes a casters life a dream and just screams fun!
- Flying mounts (Griffin, Wyvern, Unicorn (with wings)
-land mounts, Horses(over 6 different kinds{color}), Unicorn, Shadow hound, Camel
-Boats, three kinds with three different build styles.
-Crafted items, Say you have a short sword made by a crafter..... well that crafter can make three types of that short sword for you, Kojan, Therthn(spelled wrong) and the desert one don't know the name... Meaning Asian, European and Arabian
- The different play styles.... and you can be all of them at the same time which rocks
+Diplomat (diplomacy sphere) The coolest thing I've ever seen, I would really call this the Lore Game lol, this sphere opens so much Lore
+Crafter (Some what like EQ2 Crafting but times three and more fun/Hard) Three differnt types of Crafting items
+Adventure (combat, raids, pvp, exploring normal what not
Sub Sphere for Adventure and Crafter
+Harvester,
Lumberjack: (cut down trees, roots, any mob that is made of wood
Miner: (copper, tin etc)
Quarry: Basalt and other things (used with mining and Lumberjack)
Reaping: Jute, etc any plants in the game
Skinning: any mob that is a animal or has fur/leather skin

Each Character can buy a house from 2.5g to 30g to 1p and I think I found a 10p house once
Each character can also turn their house into a guild HQ (only one) or the guild can save up 50p I think and buy a guild hall
All houses cost their standard fee but you need to by mats from Broker(Auction house) to build your house. All three craft trees are need to build your house I think
Also the amount of items you can put in your house is crazy as well
If you ever play the game jump on the Rp Server and give Slidic a tell. Its my new main I deleted all my other characters its something I always do no mater what game

Tdub, i am not sure whether or not this free trial thing for Vanguard is true or not either. It was something i had read in these forums. It was going to be a trial, but completely seperate from the rest of Vanguard. For those that are thinking about joining Vanguard or possibly rejoining it would be a good offer from SOE to show how much improvement there has been to entice us back.
Tdub, speaking of lazy, why are you just copying the same ol' post on the Vanguard forums in different threads today anyways? Besides you stated how you agreed Vanguard information read on MMORPG.com shouldn't be trusted. Something about by children for children, but you forgot mentioning an exemption for yourself.

i love vanguard and have a char to play solo and a char to play with my GF
it IS empty, i have a /who macro wich i press every couple minute to see who is in the area to kill (pvp) and 99% of the time for that chunck it is just me and my GF.. 80% of the time its me and my GF and 1 other person.
get a friend, play it and you will have a lot of fun for sure, but right now its too empty even to call a mmo

, but seeing you say there will be no trail island isn't very accurate bro, read below 
The trail island will be a free demo. It does not replace any of the existing content. If you buy the box or the digital download, you will start in a normal newbie zone and you will never see the trail Island. If you decide not to buy the game but instead decide to download the trail island, then you would only get that experience and it would be in place of the regular newbie content. If after that point you like the game, you would then be transferred over to the regular content starting at whatever level the trail island caps off at.
There’s no good way to answer the “dishonest” question. We will do our best to make sure the optimization tricks we learn from the trail island make it to the live game ASAP. In addition, art will finish the island before design populates it, so while design is populating, art will be optimizing the existing game. So [by the time] the trail island does go live, the rest of the game should be much better. Keep in mind programming is still working on optimizations as well during this time. If we never optimized the rest of the game starting now, I think [the folks who say the trial island is dishonest] would have a valid point, but that’s not the case
The emptiness is a problem because of the game's design.
A large quantity of the content, beyond a certain level, requires a group.
Seems the developers banked on higher populations all around.
Honestly, I'd wait for the server merge, unless you're alright with not doing certain areas because they are very group reliant (or doing them once the mobs are much lower con to you and not worth much XP). I'm talking more about Lord Tsang's Tomb, Coterie Infineum, etc. which really can't be done solo in any sort of efficient time frame.
I played VG with my boyfriend and a third account we had (Dreadknight, Bard, + Cleric on my laptop) and we were able to trio _most_ of the content, at least until our mid-40s when we got bored and left. But completely alone would be kind of rough, unless you play one of a few specific classes that solos well. I havent given up on VG yet, I'm hoping they'll pull through on this - what would be really nice is if the content was tweaked for smaller parties.
