even moved from
#9 back to
#8 between June 2 and June 9. Been in the top ten for 2 months now ? Kudo's to Turbine. Other than WOW has any MMORPG managed to stay there for more than a week or two? Looks like it moved into the realm of Walmart/Best Buy sales now. It went from
#9 at release in Best Buys top ten up to
#6 which indicates it has moved beyond hard core MMORPG fans and the more main stream gamers are starting to pick it up. That's a good thing because that is Blizzard territory and it is good to see Turbine starting to give them some competition. At Amazon .com it is still a respectable
#20 at the time of this post.
Looks like word of mouth and good reviews from reputable sources trumps viral marketing
Face it liker the game or not it has raised the standards for quality, customer service and content and that can only be a good thing for the genre.

I am just sorry that this game will be many players first experience of MMORPGs.
Such a bland and lonely way to enter the hobby.
They have sold a lot of boxes? GJ I guess... Viva mediocraty

However, LOTRO is like WoW v.2. The graphics are better, the questing seems a little better, immersion-wise (not kill x, or deliver y, but the epic/book quests). Just like the Bizzard team famously said "..we took a look at systems in current MMOs, and if it wasn't fun, its out", Turbine seems to have done the same with WoW. Only WoW was already fun, so Turbine just improved with new tech everything else.
I expect LOTRO to continue to do well, especially with Turbine making good on their reputation for frequent, free, updates.
99.00001% of the time I dont know what im saying
99.99% of the time I know I spelled the word wrong or repeated a sentence.. I did it so you can better your grammar
100.00% of the time if to many people post after my post very mad ill most likely with a 5% chance saying something like ....""
100.00% of the time I lack sleep and magical things come out of my head and type my posts for me? Please yell at the magical things not me... I am but a puppet
Agree.. there are so many better games out there, but I guess it is the LOTR name that is the pulling card for most of the new people getting into their first MMO.
Ah well, after they play for a few weeks and get bored, maybe they will look around for something with a bit more substance.
..I uninstalled it.

Really, it's okay that people don't like your little video game.
Unless you're getting p2p it, in which case carry on.

You are kidding me right?
Word of mouth?
Delusion has a new name....
You really really havent noticed the HUGE advertising campaign that has pushed this game into the laps of the sheep? This is not even mentioning the thousands and thousands spent on internet shivs (*cough* you know what a 'shiv' is right? Yeah... 'course you do...), and pocket journalists.
Word of mouth... lol
No, I meant they will think this is the best it can be.
They will think that derivative, grey, porridgy, channelled, easy mode, no soul gaming is what this hobby is about.
/shrug.. maybe all that it *IS* now what this hobby is about, maybe I am an out dated gamer in the sense that I remember when games used to be challenging in general and, in the case of MMORPGs, social... But if that is so then I wear that fact with pride.
I remember when us MMORPGers thought this hobby could reach new heights of possibility... This may sound naive now, but I remember in 1998 and onwards us sitting in pubs and talking excitedly about what would be possible in the future... where games such as Ultima and then EQ would take us as technology improved. The future was exciting and unlimited... Filled with virtual realities of adventure, self determination, and open horizons.
Where have we, in reality, ended up?
In a ghetto of manipulated behaviours, repetitive actions, and ordinary aspirations, filled with bottle fed sheep that demand no more then to have their hands kept busy while the hours tick away.
It just makes me a little sad is all.
You mean after they play EQ2 or WOW or some other game?
Because LOTRO sure ain't the best.
My biggest fear is that all those people whose first mmo is LOTRO will think it really IS the best, and not try one of the many better ones. You know, one of those with actual content and stuff...
I don't hate it.
I just find it boring in the extreme.
I have waited until now to try the free trail out, picked up the CD meant for pre-release from a local game store. I played the game for a week now, trying all the toons and have to say what a complete waste of time. BLAND is a word that springs to mind.
I played on a euro RP server Laurelin. What a bunch of muppets some of the people on this server have no idea what RP stands for. I have just unistalled it from my system and should of known anything which Codemasters has it's name on is still a pile of Sh1t. It appears the servers do not get policed at all, I sent a petition about someone exploiting and still not heard any response up to the time i was able to log in. So it appears that they are letting anyone do as they please. So it will end up like all the rest, just a matter of time and the clock is ticking.....
Good luck to anyone whos been daft enough to pay for the life time subscriptions, can not imagine how I would feel if I had done that, again only one word springs to mind, ROBBED.
Bandit.

IMO, EQ2 is WAAAYYYY better then LOTRO. So for a casual experience, my vote goes to EQ2.

Still trying to hammer away at labeling me a Vanguard fan, eh? Good luck with that.
EQ2...? well i play the free trial of EQ2 and i did not like it but anyway if you want to play a good MMORPG try WoW...
WoW is alot better than most MMORPG since it actually focus on PVE and a little of PVP and it follow the best Storyline i have ever seen...
Face it guys/gals no one gives a flying rats rectum whether some paid shill or fan boy on a forum posts positive or negative posts about the game. They have been burned too many times with games like Dark and Light and Vanguard to believe a few paid/non paid fan boy posts. What sells a game are good professional reviews on reputable sites and word of mouth from people they have gamed with or know personally.
Game companies are wasting their money if they think forum posts by paid shills works.Viral marketing just does not work. If game companies want to sell games they need to do it the old fashioned way and make a good game like Turbine did and people wil vote with their wallets..
