Hello there community.
I've been playing [free] mmo's since I remember now ... or rather just trying them out. NONE of the games out there [ oh, maybe the wurmonline did ] kept me playing for longer than a month ... I am astonished by the fact of how the game developers see the players as brainless kids that just like to click [ WoW, silkroad and many many more ]. More and more brainwashing games are being created every day which of most come from asia. Creators of such games like Silkroad obviously have to put lots of effort into making a big game and let it be free to play [ and drain cash from addicts that buy items for real cash ] but all the games like this are similar which means same graphic engine, mechanics, reality and similar world shape. Obviously many of you will attack me for playing only the free games [ PLEASE SPARE ME SUCH SENSELESS POSTS ] but the only game worth of paying till now is wurmonline [ which I invite you all to ].
Here comes my question and a conclusion at a time. I'd like to call out those people with imagination and intelligence to talk here.
Is there a game that really forced you to use your brain all the time ? [ And I don't mean planning the pvp, raids etc. ]
Is there a project that is maybe not about fighting only that is complicated and that is what makes it interesting ?
If you think that you found one please post it here so we can discuss it.
Thank you all for your cooperation.

Besides that I liked the crafting in EQ2. You had to think a bit about what you were doing unlike the crafting in WoW. Still it wasn't exactly taxing, but I liked it. SWG had nice crafting as well, though I'm going back to when it was released. On the whole I find crafting requires more thought and skill than fighting.
I've played very few free games but a load of the pay ones. Out of all of them Eve had to be the most involving as a player. It required the most thought about what your doing in any online game I've played. I'm not saying it was hard, just that it was the most involved. I'm looking foward to PotBs. Having to consider wind direction whilst travelling sounds fun
EVE in all it's none-PVE aspects.
crafting, PVP, trading, finding a niche for yourself. Becoming a pirate, mercenary or provide a service. It all requires effort, some thinking and preparation (this is why people whine about EVE so much, it takes effort, which is something most people don't want).
It's not a traditional MMO though but it's the best sandbox, limited rules MMO out there.
Has a complicated combat system: Age of Conan = All previewers are talking about needing three arms to do it properly.
The only MMORPG I've played that meets some of these reqs is Ultima Online, but it hasn't offered the challenge ina long while.
You get what you PAY for.
Doktar - 70 Troll Priest - Perenolde
So You say EVE [ Asheron's call is about spells so it is a good innovation but not enough for a game ] I will try to check it in some time.
But the challenge is still there ... do most of You/Us play only the mainstream games advertised here ?
If so that only confirms that present games are created for people that just need some addiction and way to spend money instead of a challenge.
wurm did keep me amused for a little over two years. it's a great game but a few things have killed it to me.
as for actuallying I think that raiding should be included but in the case of WoW the thinking title goes to the first few guilds that clear the instance, after someone posts their strat guide no one thinks in that game.
as for the winner of the multiplayer thinking title it would be botbattle.3x.ro/ it's basicallly a robot building type game with exception that you program the robots and can't control them at all while they fight.
as for a runner up I'd vote guild wars. making a mesmer/necromancer that was a runner was very amusing. even beat the classic warrior/monk setup that people like to use in some cases. not to mention in PvP you had to adapt to what was happening in the battles when it started then more often than not a few times during that battle.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
WoW - I'll just keep quiet while I smile about it.
Morrowind and bots - as i said before, these games have interesting feautures [ to be true morrowing can be edited to become the best game ever but it would cost unhuman loads of effort from player while it will still be a single player ( yes i know there is morrowind multi project ) so as I said before : those are single feautures, still not worthy games. ]
Wurm - great game, suberb potential and I am looking forward to see new feautures and possibilities but it is still a specific type of game, that is "new" and interesting to a point.
Once more thanks.
Anyone else will stand for the challenge with his/hers foundings ?
Firstly to Montin, There was a spell taper database that once you figured out your basic color combo set at character creation you could know what tapers were needed for every known spell. So for a short time it was a nice challenging system. You could creat? Learn? a new spell and keep it to yourself for a while. Once it was spread over the web you could hear in the towns people asking and being answered the formulas and then the system was moot.
As for Wurmonline the only challenge is if you can stomach playing a game where 90% of it is watching a time meter count down to failure. You spend more time right click / select than in any game I have played. I will give them credit for having some very innovative ideas and wish some big developer would clone it but in a fun ejoyable way.
As for your original question ....... I haven't been challenged in a game since I left the world of MUD's. I agree programmers seem to think we are mindless drooling idiots with quests that almost spell it totally out for you step by step and then give you a marker on a mini map so you dont get lost. I do not hold out much hope for truly challenging games comming out as since the late 90's games have just gotten more dumbed down with each release. Once past the challenge of learning the GUI and controls .. .. .. .. nada more.
I keep my eye open for somethign new to try but have went back to console games and single player offline games like Icewind Dale. Bought my son a new mountain bike with the savings too.
