http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=112404452&sid=1 We're pleased to announce that World of Warcraft will be one of the featured games in this year’s Championship Gaming Series (CGS) World Championship. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade players on the European and North American realms have the opportunity to secure a spot in the upcoming CGS draft, to be held at BlizzCon. Players who are drafted onto CGS teams will earn $30,000 - $100,000 or more annually in salaries and bonuses as professional gamers.
Ladders All teams participating in 2-vs.-2 Arena System matches in each battlegroup will automatically be entered in the competition. The initial phase of the tournament will last from June 19 to July 3, and players can check the rankings by visiting the battlegroup ladder pages. The top five 2-vs.-2 teams in each battlegroup will be invited to the next round.
Qualifiers Following the end of the ladder phase of the tournament on July 3, the five top-ranked teams from each battlegroup will be selected to participate in the qualifiers, as discussed above. Each of these teams will be copied to a private realm in the corresponding region (Europe and North America), where they will compete with the other qualifying teams from that region's battlegroups. The qualifier round will run from July 9 to July 17 and will utilize the same ranking system as the ladders. At the end of the qualifier round, the top 8 teams from Europe and North America will be chosen to participate in the live CGS tournament at BlizzCon and subsequent draft.
BlizzCon Tournament and CGS Draft The top 16 teams from the qualifiers will be flown to BlizzCon to participate in a two-day tournament to determine the best 2-vs.-2 Arena teams in the world. The top 8 teams from Blizzcon will then be flown to the CGS World Championship in Los Angeles, where they will compete for cash prizes and immediately begin their careers as salaried pro gamers at CGS. They will join 1 of 8 CGS teams following the 2008 Draft and then compete professionally for their teams alongside team members who play a variety of games, including World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade.

http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/battlegroups.xmlDoes anyone else find this completely hilarious?
They completely failed with the 5v5 Tournament they put together, so they are trying a 2v2? 2v2 Arena is the WORST possible bracket to have some kind of "World Tournament" for. It is so completely unbalanced and pathetic it's not even funny. I wonder if Blizzard even knows why the population of WoW is at a steady decline since a couple months after BC?
Why does it seem like they are trying to turn it's PvP into some wanna be battle.net side-show and utterly failing at it? Why are they giving the best of the best PvP rewards to people that play in an complete failure of an Arena system when they themselves say the Arena is completely unbalanced and unfair to some classes?
The only reason most people do the Arena's is because it has the best PvP rewards in the game. I wonder how long Blizzard can fool themselves into thinking most people go to the arena's because they want to?
Seems like WoW is turning into the new SWG epic failure that could have been adverted. Sad to see.

Rofl.
The best part is the salary they're offering.
Looks like this game really WILL be a job for some people. I feel sorry for them.
EDIT: I also have to agree with the OP. 5v5 was at least interesting, but 2v2 is pretty much a joke. Let's take bets on how many of those teams will be Rogue/Rogue hoping to spam Backstab, or Warlock/Warlock spamming fear and DoTs.
Oh yeah right rogue, rogue or warlock warlock. I don't think so since anyone can break out of sap with a trinket these days. Fear has been nerfed again as well. The strongest teams i could imagine are a paladin and a MS warrior and maybe a warlock and shadowpriest. Oh and since the better teams would probably be mainly using arena reward gear it would come down to skill. You just pretend it's about items people have so you can pretend your skilled if you want though. Oh and i did read the finals teams from the last arena season and nearly all of em were wearing a major part of arena reward gear.
'i'd love to see 2 rogues take out a paladin and a warrior with equivalent gear because my rogue would struggle to kill either class!.
Oh and to the moron who first posted why am i still queuing to enter my server if the game is such a travesty. Just because you don't like the game or arena's doesn't mean everyone else does.
Maybe it's time to roll a hunter
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
What the contest comes down to is *NOT* who is most skilled. It never is. In *ANY* game. However, that in itself is not such a bad thing. A new player can have more talent than an old one and get worked over in PvP because he doesnt know the ropes or hasnt gotten around to playing a bit.
But in wow, the skill factor has almost been negated. It really comes down to who has been raiding the most or who found the best PUGs or whos guild can run more hours than the other.
Yea yea yea, skill in PvE organization blah blah not what Im talking about.
Planetside is my Bible. Yea, there was character progression to award people who were playing longer... but there was much more skill involved.
And before BC, I could kill most people in PvP with my 60 rogue that had green PoS gear... Its because I was a decent player.
Not anymore... even before BC they changed everything up... the itemization techniques Blizzard uses emphasizes play time.
WoW is a second job now.
The ultimate solution to every problem: more space marines.
Well since arena gear is probably some of the best pvp gear obtainable or on a par for pvp with instance items that is debatable. You only need to play 10 games a week not exactly major game time to get some points. It is a mmorpg after all and if you want total balance play counter strike or something. No mmorpg will ever provide a perfect balance for pvp because it provides uniqueness which is something a lot of people like.
Yes its part luck, class and other things but lets face it dungeons and dragons depended a lot on dice rolls and that is where most of these games were built from. I can tell you though thye people who make the finals will be skilled players though because they will face thier own classes as well!.
Yeah, pvp arena system in WoW is one of the saddest excuses for anything. Taco Bell makes better PvP (Just gotta remember to lock the car doors and roll up the windows).
