Potential player questions

adamk22adamk22 Member Posts: 233
I used to play SWG a long time ago (pre-cu) and i heard from many SWG vets that this game is the closest thing to SWG pre-cu so i am wondering besides the skill system i have read about (which seems very impressive to me!) , is  there player housing in this game just like in SWG? How big is the map/world and how big are the cities? What are the forms of transport? (Or do you need to walk everywhere?) Are all (most of) the items player-made just like in SWG?

Cheers in advance for answering!

First off, I never played SWG, but I have met many refugees from that game so maybe I do have some idea of comparison.

The skill system is apparently very similar, although mining/foraging is a rather more involving occupation in Ryzom.

On the other hand, player housing is just pants. We've four choices of capital cities and they determine the apartment style; nothing is customizable thereafter.

Atys, the game world, is big and comparable to SWG, as I understand. The cities are a very small part of that, although Pyr is certainly quite a special warren.

Transport is frequently by teleport (despite the pollution toll this is still the most popular form of long distance transport, even for short journeys), but you can run yourself or ride a mektoub mount for quite a reasonable price.

Almost every great piece of equipment is player-crafted; the NPCs make a few special items but they are not unsurpassed.

OH, if you came from SWG, you will like the skill system. Modifying your skills to suit situations and playing style. Has to be one of the best systems I have seen or played. Community is pretty good too. Helpful and friendly.

The community is terrific :). Often too helpful, in my opinion, which is probably why I so much enjoy finding replies such as many in this thread. (Starting with post 7.)

it's hard to remember as a high level character that getting there WAS half the fun. not that i have a high level now, but in my interactions in other games i'd help new players, point them in the right direction, tip them a gold/credit or two, and let them make the final discovery for themselves. on a few occasions you'd get the noob who wanted to be spoon fed and twinked 'till his eyes bled, but more often than not people were grateful just for the advice given and someone to later turn to should they ever need some advice again.

this actually makes an interesting discussion for pub talk that i don't think i've seen in a while here. twinking, yes or no, and what's "too" much ?
