Shadowbane, the Mourning server is VERY populated and VERY active. I have been playing since release and never have been board. What makes Shadowbane so great?

    1. Was pay to play and now free to play

    2. Full on open PvP, you can kill anyone without going red.. 0 restrictions

    3. Loot dead players

    4. Max level is 75 and can be reached in about 2 days

    5. Lots of races, lots of classes and endless char builds

    6. Full on player/guild built castles that can be sieged and torn down

    7. Mature community

    8. Massive amounts of gold and items drop from mobs

    9. Uber items are dirt cheap

    10. No quests, its all about the fast level and PvP

    11. You must join a good to ok guild, for the most part being alone in SB is not fun and the game is NOT noob friendly.

The guy is right.  I play on mourning and the game is a blast ONLY IF YOU HAVE A GOOD ESTABLISHED GUILD! If you dont, the game will blow. I started playing around Dec 2006, but the game is great. Learning curve is a bit steep but you  will pick it up in about a week and half to two.

For a first time Shadowbane player, I would tell you for your first char ever to make a str and con warrior. The reason for this is you can carry a (((TON ))) of items/loot to make cash untill you find a toon that really fits your playstyle. Casters cant carry much and high def chars cant carry all but a recall scroll and 1 or 2 items. You can transfer items and gold from char to char at the storage vault at a npc town called Sea Dogs Rest. You get there from tree travel teleport from any town that has a rune master.

Probaly not, first you'll need to have an established guild to join to get any joy out of it, otherwise curing cancer would be less tedious.

Oh and by the way, most people that are playing SB right now aren't doing so for the "hardcore PvP" but due to the reason it's FREE2PLAY.

This is with out a doubt the dark age for PvPer. Only real options right now is to play something that is already out. Shadowbane isn't a bad recomendation if you can get past the movement and graphics. DAOC is still doing ok on the classic cluster. There are also a few SWG servers that have a decent PvP scene going on. As far as new stuff, only thing I can say that you may be able to play soon is Pirates of the Burning Sea, they are about to do a huge beta expansion in early July.

DAoC is about as fun as it used to be on the classic servers...  Though it's not free either.  Great PvP though.  What other game has a zone where everyone from all factions can go and PvP at levels 1-5?

     HA!

So correct!  I played Darktide, then DAOC Modred. Anyways I am downloading Shadowbane to give that a spin. Might try EVE out as well. But I did remember a beta for a game called RYL ( RISK YOUR LIFE ). It was very PvP oriented and I know I liked the combat in it. Does anyone know how this game is doing? More game suggestions are always welcome also.

Well there is no game out aside from Shadowbane and Classic player run Ultima Online shards that offer real hardcore PvP. People really pizz me the FK off thinking they are hardcore PvPers going to play WoWhammer, Age of Sissynan and any other so called PvP games out or being made. All the games out and being made say (WE ARE A PvP GAME, COME AND PLAY!) when in fact the game is item, gear and level based with lame PvP restrictions. I wish to holy freaking god that Darkfall online comes out soon. In real life when I meet people at game stores and such and they start talking to me about how hardcore PvP they are in WoW, I change the subject fast. I dont want to listen to some dude tell me about his girl panties he wears for PvP.

If I had massive amounts of cash in real life, I would make the sickest skill based open PvP MMO ever. I would name my MMO ( Real PvP, You Dont Need To Wear Girl Panties to play Online).

If you want competitive PVP that you can win real cash, then I suggest Guild Wars. It focuses mainly on player skills, and team effort rather than grind for uber gear. And it has no monthly fee

I've been hiding in BF:2142 for a while now. No MMORPG can even come close to the PvP in intensity and skill required, I just got sick of mashing function keys in order to play the rock/paper/scissors game that passes for PvP in every MMO right now. With the exception of WW2online, but that wasn't fast paced enough for me.

Get BF:2142 if you yearn for good PvP, PvP in MMORPGs is no more than an urban myth.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Shadowbane sucks man, it's like going back to the 80's.  If you want PvP go EQ2 PvP Server until Warhammer or COnan comes out.

    COV/COH fast paced competitive PVP.
  • JessonaterJessonater Member Posts: 50

Terribly sorry for the long return...

1st don't even talk about CoH or CoV worthless games IMO. Shadowbane engine is almost as dated as DAOC yet it seems to run worse? Oo

In regards to the Guild wars comment, I am not a fan of instanced PvP.

So do tell, how is the PvP in EQII PvP servers? I need to be able to gank at will.

I've been pvp'ing since M59 & the UO beta I even played the EQ perma death special event server (funnest memories in any MMORPG to date).  So far the only thing that really catches my interest is Darkfall but my gut instinct tells me not to get my hopes up.  I've been let down so much in the past.  If only they'd make a medival Planetside/Shadowbane game, it'd blow everything out of the water.

ya Darkfall that would be so great

for now Starport was closest thing I could find to Darkfall. Jumpgate upgrade might have hope yes? will have hardcore PVP I think

  • vajurasvajuras Member Posts: 2,860

one last thing Pirates of Burning Sea will have some hardcore PVP (hardcore durability hit, looting, etc). SOE has taken it over so hopefully they wont screw us all and add raiding and ruin it. edit- sry I mean SOE is supposed to be only handling billing and stuff

you gain levels but really its all skill based. when u gain a level it merely adds a skill point. Level 50 has same hitpoints as Level 1 player! All weapons are viable! Player run economy. no raiding ever they say

If they deliver its probably our best shot. closest thing to a player run sandbox where we can be pirates and steal all the booty. yeah has grind but oh well it is our best shot atm
