the only mistake i see is the dual core amd chip. at the point in time it has been reviewed many times and compared with the core 2 duo on the intel side and intel is actually the better choice over the two, the actual difference between the two during gaming is actually very large.
Well,..... it is a damn good nic. It's just bloody pricey for what it does.
As for the build, I'd go intel e6600, get a 680 or cut 650 mobo, a couple 36 of raptors, 8800gtx, a 900 gaming case and top quality cpu, nb & sb coolers, oh and absolutely an x-fi sound card (more bang for the preverbial buck,on baord is, as mentioned earlier, the 'lol'). So imo the build is kind of all wrong, but its all opinion and you get what you feel comfortable with. I dont see much room for oc on that system in comparison to the possibilities atm.

The motherboard supports quad core and 1333FSB (future-proofing) and most p965 boards are good overclockers- no SLi/Xfire though. (doesn't look like you want it)
Just in case you want to some day though, it never hurts to get a modular 700W power supply that's up to 87% efficient like the one I chose for you. (70% is about average, can be worse) I changed the case to one without a power supply, something simple with a front and rear fan combo.
I changed the CPU to an E6600, with a 4Mb cache the best bang for the buck and best for gaming. AMD doesn't look to be up to anything special- by the time they have an answer to Conroe, Intel will come out with Penryn. *shrugs* that's the way it is. I also threw in one hell of an after market CPU cooler that drops temps by 10 degress celsius easily. My E6600 idles at 28C overclocked to 3.2Ghz with one of these on.
I did downgrade your graphics card choice from the 640MB 8800GTS model to the 320MB one... refreshes of these cards are RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. Wait a few months to buy one of these, or buy one of the better refreshes coming out soon. If you must buy one, but the one you stand to lose the least on when selling it back on eBay in several months... the 320MB model. They're like 259$ from EVGA after rebate, that's a steal.
As far as hard drives- meh whatever. It's personal preference. I don't think raptors are worth it myself- and yes, they're noisy. But i also don't like the idea of a SOLE 500GB drive leaving all my eggs in one basket. So i just left it as it is.
Oh and I forgot about the ram. I found faster ram from what corsair offeredat 15 bucks less; these particular Gskill sticks are based on d9 micron chips that are proven overclockers.
Your new price: $1127.83
P.S. This still leaves about 65 dollars to spend on a sound card if you REALLY must have one- and then you'll be at the price you were at originally... and this rig could kick the ass end out of the first hypothetical one

FAR from "good" at anything.
personally products like this irritate the piss outta me, same thing with anything stamped "fatal1ty" that just says to me it's a pure piece of sh!t.

So explain please, taking the price out of the equation, you're saying it is not a good card. If so could you post a link to a better one.

At this point, I wouldn't order a CPU really. AMD is supposed to release the Phenom line which is supposed to be better than anything Intel has.
Also there is the new Socket AM2+ and FX+ that reduces something because of some stuff in the board.
