Will this game have multiple servers or one huge one? EVE Online had only one server, well one live server and other testing ones but they don't count, and it worked out great for it. With one server the game gets just that much more realistic, capturing a port makes that bigger of a difference. Of course this is a smaller world, the caribbean instead of a whole galaxy, and port capture battles will only by 25 vs. 25. Speaking of which, any chance the world could get expanded a little? Trade was pretty big between all over the place. Or is it because they're going for a historically accurate game and including certain trade routes in the west coast of Africa might cause too much of a stirr in the media?
Comments
1. There will be more then one big sever for example US west and east coast aswell as Europe and other countrys.
2. There has been talk of an expanson of the world after the game is released and R2 or even R3 is done.
3. If you are talking about the slave trade the devs have said they will never put it in the game.
Hope that answers everything.

Sony servers are located in San Deigo and England none on east coast.

Game play will most likely be devided between us and europe only servers at least thats how sony usually does it.

Good thing SOE isn't handling servers then isn't it!
Is Virginia not on the East Coast anymore?
Not sure how that is working says flying labs is operating servers but there in seattle i thought and i know S.O.E servers are in San Deigo customer support is also there.

SOE are not doing customer support either btw

We are running our own servers, not SOE. They'll be hosted in Seattle, but at a site that has good connectivity to all internet backbones. It turns out that a server's geographic location has very little to do with it's internet distance. If you're on a different major backbone you'll get lousy performance as your bits travel to MAE-EAST or MAE-WEST to switch backbones, and then back again. In our case it won't matter as we'll be connected to all of them.
We won't be having a single world instance, but will have multiple shards. I expect we'll have ones designated as "east-coast" and "mid-west" mostly for the sake of finding people who play when you do.
As for Europe, we will host European servers over there. No point in going across the big pond if you don't need to.

What about the REALLY big pond? Eastern hemisphere servers would be awesome, but of course I know there's little chance of that.
However, I remember hearing something about a version of the game based around Asia, ie Pirates of the Asian Seas. Are there still plans for that, or am I just going senile at 27?
We would love for PotBS to be available everywhere. It's a matter of finding publishers in all the different territories to handle it. But rest assured we're doing our best to bring our game to a server near you. We would also love to do a more Asian localized version with content about their own great age of piracy (quite a bit earlier than our time period) but that requires a lot more development effort than releasing the US version and would likely be an ongoing project.

zOMG a dev replied to my post!!!11oneeleventyone!1!!
If there are servers for different regions then to truly make this a next-gen game there could even be some sort of weather program that'd control the in-game weather based off of the real world. I can imagine it now, during the next big hurricane people will be talking about what they lost and one guy will start crying about his lvl 47 l33t PWNZORXXX who lost 2000 barrels of rum.
Your post makes me sad. Like this:
The devs and employees of FLS rock.
