I was tricked! I just pre-ordered the game the other day for the closed beta key and found out it was in OPEN beta.
Thats total crap.
Anyways, been playing for a while and the game is pretty damn good. Unfortunately though, its populated by immature peeps (Judging the text at the top of the screen though) so I hope when the game is released thats fixed. (If it goes P2P, it is going P2P right?)
The family system is just plain cool. I love being able to control three characters at once. The combat gets pretty intense when you get into large scale battles and I LOVE it!
The NPC dialogue, however, is nothing to be impressed about. In fact, its kind of scary and most of the time, hard to understand.
There are a buttload of quests but the rewards aren't very good. Its basiclly just for the experience they give you, (As far as I can tell) but its in the form of a card. (This way you can level up alts if you save the cards) Oh and there is no death penalty. You don't even get sent back to a spawn location! 
The community, as said before, just stinks. The nicest thing said to me in game was 'np' after I accidently spawned a bunch of quest mobs on a lower lvl family and getting them killed. (If anyone wants to group, my families name is 'Aldrid' on the...err...top server...on the list...)
The game overall is very good and I think will get even better after launch. (Afterall this is beta) Oh and sorry about the decieving title!
One more thing. Why did they make it open beta if they were gonna grant the people who pre-ordered a spot on the closed beta? That just doesn't make sense to me. In fact, its bullshit.
EDIT: I'm actually going to restart with another family combo. I'll be on the Opressia server with the name Darsia.

They already had the pre-order closed beta... you missed it (also, if you notice on your pre-order box, it doesn't say you get to play in closed beta at all. It just says beta).

Read over my post and I gotta say...damn. I usually proof read before I post it but the one time I don't...well you know lol.
Anyways...is the game going pay to play then? I think I saw P2P/Item Mall but I'm not sure. Could someone clear this up for me?

The dialougue in the game is mostly place holders now. (this is beta after all) On the beta forum there is a thread for reporting and suggesting translation changes. The next patch will contain many of these. Also like most game communities the most vocal in main chat (shout/megaphone) are often the most immature people. But I can assure you that there are many of us playing that dont fall into that catagory. I'm only guesssing but maby they opened up open beta to increase the server populations. Pre orders still get the extra items and vis at launch. (there will be a wipe)
btw, with K2network F2P with an Item mall wouldn't suprise me.
