after enjoying daoc since launch i log in this week and noticed my toon had no armor no gold and checked the vault and the vault was stripped bear of all belongings

i checked with the second highest toon on that server and that one was stripped of armor gold and all belongings as well

i did an appeal and basicaly got no help from csr

my last log in was last week in may taking a short summer break

csr will not aid me in any shape form or fashion as far as reimbursment and or gold

since they were of no help to me given this difficult situation

i cancled my account ( changed passwords/ login ) before doing so

though i will miss the game i knew even if i could somehow get even some of the items back customer service could not and would not help me if same situation some how was repeated..............

have any of yall experianced this situation and did you have better results in outcome then i did ????

They wont help you because your likely lying to them. 99% of these cases the person gave out his info to someone else, whether it be to a friend to let them play, or selling it on Ebay. If your account was "hacked" it was likely because of the thing i mentioned above, or you had a really easy password to guess. And even then they would need to know your user name. So if you have ever given the account info to someone, they would permanently know your username and would just have to guess your password. Your account info is encrypted in a database, and i doubt anyone with the neccesary skills able to hack Mythic and find it would be wasting his time hacking computer gaming accounts when he could be making a killing in Internet Security.

    Sorry to hear that man.

While I wont say you are lieing to them, they dont know that and for them Im sure its better safe than sorry.  Though you could try to write the customer service and see if they can tell you the last time they have you as being logged in, well previous to when you found all your stuff gone.  Again, really sorry to hear that, and if I still played, and you were on the same server as I, I would help ya out.

True while many people likely lie to CSRs, in this case I believe he's telling the truth since we have nothing to do with DaoC.

Also, if you think its very hard to hack into someone's account then you are mistaken.  It's difficult but not very hard.  Look at Lineage 2, there's report of hacking already and many of these guys say they use rather hard passwords and/or change them frequently.

Trust me..these hackers don't have to "guess" to get the correct pass..they have software that can run 100,000 decrypted user:pass per minute with multiple ISP proxies thats equipped with an anti-recognized attempts (meaning the website or account they're hacking wont be able to tell they had tried 3 times or 3 million times). Or they use "innocent" 3rd party software to plant backdoors into your account.  LOL, take for example the Lineage 2 3rd party software that can show you the enemy levels is, more than likely, not innocent at all.

But to sum it all up, I feel bad for the original poster.  That's why I change my pass twice a month and I never use 3rd party software to help out with certain areas of mmorpg grinding or gameplay play

I'm of the belief most of these cases are lies as well. Not so much "lies" with the intent to scam the MMORPG company but a case where the account info was given out at some time or another as mentioned above. Guildmates, real life friends etc. naively do this all time not to mention all the ebay'd accounts out there. So while you and others might honestly have had the items "stolen" it is not a case of being hacked. It is the player's own fault when this happens and I have no sympathy for them. If game companies started returning items and such for all the times people claimed to be hacked I'd be much more pissed.

It sucks that a few honest players might truly have been hacked and get screwed over for it but 99 times out of a hundred it was their own fault (even through ignorance/stupidity ie. leaving a paper out with your password and account name when a fellow friend and player is at your house) whether they realize it or not.

For the good of the community sadly a few honest players will have to lose out rather than see this become a way to scam and swamp the server with high level items.

I wasnt saying he was lying. I was saying the CSR's likely thought he was lying. The majority of these cases involve handing out your own account info. I know, ive done it myself. But the secret word should have allowed him to get his account back. A simple call to Mythic and they would have changed his PW.

There is no way to confirm that you did not do this yourself, or that you did not have a friend do it for you or ebay it. The best way for Mythic to avoid being scammed by malicious players is to not reimburse for these types of events. Pretty much every company follows this kind of policy, and it's the right thing to do.

If you have some way of proving you were hacked, sue the person that hacked you. Otherwise, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

i had 2 instances of bad luck from daoc but both i guess being my own fault..

one day i transfered a ton of gold/items to a new toon i made it was all high end gear and about 2k coin but after he said sure he would help me he ran off and logged out of the game. never seen him again.. i guess its my own fault but nothing they can do.

also i had got an 2nd account off ebay for $10 i just wanted to have a 2nd account i could 2 box, i got my account from the guy and played for about 6 months, then i canceled and quit daoc. 6 months passed and i check my visa i was billed for a 6 months subscription, i was pissed so i called daoc and they said i was logged into the game just last night... i said i hadnt even had the account active in over 6months... it turns out in the end, i didnt change the secret password on my account so it was still his mothers maiden name. daoc wouldnt refund any of it.

I've heard of this happening before, but in that case the guy gave his user name/password to someone that offered to lvl his character for him. I'm not saying you gave out your info, but its cases like that, that probably makes Mythic not want to help you out.image

Just be thankful they did not delete all your Toons as well as strip them. I lost my Toons , items and house in UO. My account was hacked along with about 8 or 9 others. The only thing we had in common is that we logged into Napa Shard to check some gifts. This was about 2 or 3 years ago. The Devs refused to help us in any way. Most of us just wanted our Toons back ( no items or house ), my guild would set me up with gold, weapons and armour. About a week later UO increased the encryption on the servers.

I am a mature ( old ) gamer and not even my wife knew my account names or passwords. The password was alpha numeric and not likely to be guessed by a program running on a PC. My computer was clean, no key loggers or 3rd party programes . I know it is possible to be innocent but proving that to a Developer and then getting them to do anything is next to impossible.

If you still have your characters change your password, borrow some gold/items and go and farm some mobs, treat it as a challange to get back what was taken from you. I do not believe that Developers should replace items, this is too open for exploitation ,but they should be able to replace a deleted Toon.

This is one of the things I find wrong with these types of games.

The items should not be so important that they can't give them back. I mean, hell, IT IS A GAME. Not life and death. The way they make these games, these crazy items are ridiculously valuable to people. This guy is more worried about the gear he lost than whether or not his characters were deleted. It is so wrong. The game should be about the character, not the gear.
