Will WoW be ready by August?

numaticnumatic Member UncommonPosts: 675

Both MMORPG.com and Ebgames has wow listed as an estimate release of August. For those beta testing, does this look like a pretty good estimate? Gamestop.com has it listed for december image

So do you think it will be ready by then? If not, why? Being only 2 months away then, it seems a little to soon considering WoW hasnt officialy set a date yet (not that i could find). I'm praying for august because im growing tired of shadowbane (restarted my account there to hold me over until WoW).

I really doubt it will be released by August as the beta test is still going strong and many features have not be introduced to get tested yet. Also they will definately not release it without an open beta and i dont think thats high on their list of things so do at the mo, especially with the Euro beta just kicking off.

A word of advice: Never listen to stores, they are never right...

It will be lucky if WoW releases in late 2004... For now, i'm hoping on open beta sometime soon.

I know, I never do. I was just asking if it seemed like a real estimate. I myself am thinking somewhere around october. Which is fine, i'd rather have a stable game. But I wouldnt be to surprised if it was ready by August. I never put anything past Blizzard image

There's still lots of time between now and the end of August, so it's not impossible. They've recently made another major beta push.  So we'll see where things are in July and it will probably be a lot easier to tell how much longer the game might take.

It comes out in December...I reserved a copy from my local retail store (Gamestop) for 12/8/04. They are always updated with release dates. If you've noticed Ebgames.com sometimes is wrong with the Release dates...I've had an experience where I pre-ordered a game for 3/14/02 when the date came I was all excited and looked on Ebgames.com and it changed to 5/19/02........

lol. You cant know it comes out in december because Blizzard hasnt said when it does. It's just speculation, thats all. Same thing with gamestop.com, they don't know when it comes out. They are just estimating like everyone else. Gamestop is just as bad with release dates as ebgames.

It's going to be rather hard to tell where Blizz is with WoW development right now. A MMORPG has a larger scope then the single player games Blizz has developed. Right now, I think they have just entered Beta Phase 2, with some PvP content and upped the level limit to 45. If I remember correctly, the max level is 60. Based on levels, there should be three more phases after this one. Rumer is there will be a third phase. And snce it took almost 6 months to goto second phase, Third phase should be just coming out in december. So my guess is this time next year.image

  • numaticnumatic Member UncommonPosts: 675
Well most betas I have been in have 5 phases. Alpha, Closed 1, 2 and 3, then open. So with this in mind, and being in second phase of closed beta, I am sticking by an Octobor date. Usually phase 1-2 takes awhile, but 2-3, maybe a month or 2 at most.

  • GaurdianKingGaurdianKing Member Posts: 338

well, I dought it will get released in august because of the constant shift of the beta, I just read the faq for wow in detail. Does any one know what an nda is. I have nt clue to what it's short for.

P.s can Rathman confirm weather his sig suppourts ati or nividia.

NDA stands for Non Disclosure Agreement, which basically means you cannot reveal any information, screen shots, or anything else about the game if you are a Beta Tester. Since Blizz has lifted the NDA. Beta tester can now comment openly to the public about content, screen shots, etc...etc...

We will see if Blizz can finish Testing before the end of the year, But I am not holding my breath. It looks to be a good game and cannot wait to get in and play it.image

maybe it is a pre-ordering date

  • GaurdianKingGaurdianKing Member Posts: 338
How would that work. pre order date if you can pre order before it.

WoW's release date will also heavily depend on when EQ2 gets released. There cant be too much time difference between the two as some people who are bored and tired of waiting (like me) might just be tempted to pick up the rival game image

Also, in DAoC, 30 days before going retail all the high end zones werent finished and the frontiers were non existant (which is half the game). By retail day everything was done. So it is possible for a dev to complete a game in a very short period of time IF all the major components are already done and just need to be assembled.

They are going to have as many phases as needed. That has already been stated numerous times before by Blizzard. You cant go by what other companies do with thier betas, specially with Blizzard and how they like to try and perfect their games.

With that said, you can expect atleast 2 more closed beta phase before they get anywhere near the open portion of it. Reasons being.

1- They have yet to release the Hunter class. They are still working on this and have no ETA on it.

2- Current content only goes to 45 ( they dont seem to be moving to fast on the lvl increments, so just going on that alone would prolly net us 2 more phases by itself). Still have 15 levels of content to go yet and PvP is no wheres near being implemented to the way they want it to be. The PvP model is like a alpha state currently. Not to mention, I doubt they are going to put in the big raid content untill they raise the cap to 60 or close to it.

3- Take enchanting as a example. They are currently working on it and it was said that the changes may not make it into the next push/phase.

4- Looks to be that each push/phase has lasted around 1.5-2 months. If that is any indication we can look to have atleast a late October early November open beta with the release sometime in December if things go the way that blizzard wants them to.

I agree with Omol that there will be a few more phases before Blizzards thinks about starting open beta.  My biggest concern is the patching system.  This needs to be done before open beta starts.  The current state would not be good for open beta.

Don't forget in the last push, level content is only at lvl 45.  lvl 45+ content still needs to be worked on.  Also the PVP system, the Hunter class and the numerous bugs introduced in phase 3.

I would expect open beta to start around September or October with the retail release anytime from late November to mid December.  But I wouldn't put anything past Blizzard.  They can pull some amazing stuff off and at the same time delays can be long.

Just keep our finger crossed that the current beta testers will do their best at reporting bugs and things go smoothly in the Blizzard Dev team! image

its just my opinion, but it is strong nonetheless.

regular beta will be lasting for a long time as people before me have stated... many of the features are not even opened yet, and the whole thing is still heating up.

i do think it is good that they are pushing the date off because that means they arn't pushing... as much... and they will give us a better product in the end.

i think we should all just wait and relax... after all, this is blizzard, the maker of few games, but the maker of good games.
