CoH......waste of money?

bballermc333bballermc333 Member Posts: 283

::::37::I bought the game the day of the release thinking of how great it would be.....to be a super hero and have the ability to fight villins and bosses, but its just not what i expected........non stop fighting, running missions, going back to contact, getting new skills, thats all this game is.....you might like the game but admit the truth, its not that greatly made/thought out......come on a MMORPG with no loot? I loved the game for about 2 weeks but then got bored....now im not a MMORPG maniac, but i have played multiple games.....AC, Ac2, DaOc, SwG and CoH, and all i have to say is CoH is at the bottem of my list for the FUN amount........ive been looking for the right game for me after AC witch i still love but thats not the point, the point is that CoH has its risks and rewards, but if ur the type that likes to go on a quest for a REWARD insted of just XP/Enhance ments then this game isnt for you.....i like ROLE PLAYING GAMES......and i feel CoH is more of a action/fighting game, i see no role playing in it other than the hero creation, for me.....a waste of 50$::::16::

You make some really valid points. I've been playing the game for about 3 weeks now, and while I really loved it initially I'm very gradually coming to like it less and less.... It's fun, but doesn't have a lot of depth... and as you progress through the levels it just really turns into a grind.  Oh well, I only got it to tide me over until WOW comes out! At least a lot of my friends play so that helps give it some more fun value.

Also Had it from release. Started out with a group of player/friends who migrated off AO, slowly but surely they have dwindled down from 12 too 3.
Initially CoH blew me away, however as much as I like the char creation and the initial low levels, it fast becomes obvious that the missions are repetitive (only quantities and lvls change) and the content is lacking.

Cannot classify this as a MMORPG, barely classify it as a MMOFPS. Would have been a wonderful single player standalone game with Multiplayer options.

If they can add more content, maybe add a special type of loot that works like the temporary powers you get occasionally, and work on the RPG side of it a bit more, then perhaps it will have staying power.

As for CoV, I think it will attract the PvP'ers, but will offer little to no additional pleasure to those gamers who lust after PvE games.

Have to agree with all of you here when you say that the game gets boring very quickly.. Played COH since mid March and just had to let it go a month after realease due to the lack of depth issue.. As for PVPers comming back to it after the release of COV, I highly doubt that they will even remember this game by then.. COV is scheduled to be released in 2005, and there are just too many good PVP MMORPG's that will be out already by then..

Cryptic dropped the ball here, they had a chance to take the MMO world by storm with there idea of a Super-hero MMO. But they targeted the wrong audience, seems to me that they decided to make the game with the casual gammer in mind.. But if you ask me the casual gammers come and go due to the fact that they have alot of other interest instead of playing MMO's.. Its the people like me that log in day in and day out and have become addicted to games that they should have targeted. Some would say I have no life, well hell I wont argue with that anymore. I used to before I got addicted to video games shorty after 9/11. Anyways the point im trying to make is that due to the lack of any type of depth in this game, I see it dying out by mid July. As the fanatic MMO's players have long since left and the casual gammers find another interest.

I think it's pretty much the same as any other MMORPG, excect for the lack of visible loot (there's still 'loot' in the game, though it's less easily recognizeable to most gamers). EQ spawned tons of addicts, and it was pretty much the same thing. What CoH has done is eliminate a lot of the downtime and traveling time common in other games. No game's for everybody, but I dig this one. It does need some more interesting content though. The tools are in place, they just need to get it in there.

I thought about this too. Every now and then, you do get temporary powers from contacts that either last as long as the mission or has so many charges. Why not have shops that sale some of these temporary powers that have so many charges?

Or since they want to stay away from armor and gear due to there very good char design process.. Why not give us something sorta like Anarchy Onlines implant scheme that way we can truely customize are chars beyond Enhancements. But I say and some loot, some class quest, some Static dungeons, Housing, inventory, vehicles, better pets (see the crappy design they have now), and more stuff to buy in stores and im there... Ofcourse thats a hell of a lot to ask and Im sure they wont.

AC as in Armored Core . . . .darn that would make an awsome MMORPG.

Naw, I don't want an EQ clones. But when you think about it:

Loot = Enhancements and Inspirations (everybody says big whoop, but it's still loot)
Class Quest = all the quests are based on level and classes invoolved because they are dynamically generated for those involved. Some quests are origin based also.
Static Dungeons = Hazard Zones. Each Hazard Zone has a class limit.
Yes there is no Housing. I would like to see SG housing. But, this would be just an add-on and not a neccessary feature for me. Inventory doesn't mean crap unless you want to sell it on eBay. Like someone else said, "Why have vehicles when there are skills/powers and the rail that allows you to travel places quickly?" Are you wanting to be Wonder Woman with here invisible plane? I don't care for pets either.

What I do like is that the combat system is one of the best I have seen in a MMOG. Each villian group does have it's own fighting tactics. The only thing I would like to see better there is the villains attacking some heroes based on other factors then who attacked them (still want provoke and taunt to work the same). This would be something like Freaks wanting to attack Naturals first.

Like I said before, CoH is not what I consider as my perfect game and I would still have recommendations on how CoH could be better. I'm not going to go around and say it sucks because it's not like EQ, AO, or some other game that you got addicted to before playing this. If I liked how those games were designed and set up, I would be playing them and not CoH.

Well the way i see it is you get Inspirations but you use it to buy Enhancements, witch you can already get, i feel Inspirations are pointless, i just think the game wasnt planed out for Hardcore gamers, the games is the same every mission in my opinion, go clear a dungeoin, kill 10 guys, i think it was a waste of money, for me atleast

NO, you get Influence to buy Enhancements. Inspirations are power-ups. Power-ups are not pointless. You can also use your influence to buy Inspirations.

Are you sure you bought the right game that you don't know the difference between Inspirations and Influence?

What do you suggest be changed, added, or taken out, to make CoH a better game? What are your ideas?

Well i see it as a straight out grinding game, non stop fighting, there is no other way to level, i would also like to see maby XP being able to put into skills, if there are 2 blasters with primary fire and secondary fire, at level 40 they are both pretty much the same, i would have to say if there were more classes, more rewards for xp, and maby being able to put xp into ur skills to make them more powerful id go back, the pvp aspect of CoV is nice but by that time to many good games will be out.

For me, the reasons why people hate it is actually the reason I like it. I've been playing EQ and DAoC for a long time, and although gaining loot, crafting, etc. gives a game depth, it's stressful, and resorts to farming just to keep up with everyone else. I found, and still find, CoH to be a breath of fresh air from all that. You start a character with no stat values to add points to, so no real way to gimp the character (although in the game there's already people nit-pickling about how some power set combinations on classes suck). During the game the action is so fast paced, who can tell if you're ability is susbstandard from the next guy, who has enhancements out the wazoo? The environment is completely free, where you can jump, and fly to any point in 3D space. I'm not sure about how it plays on other computers, but on mine it's the first mmorpg to have practically zero lag and a perfect framerate, with the most and fastest activity on screen at any one time that I've ever seen in an mmorpg. The missions are fun...after my first ever task force I felt...good, like I just went on an epic run and actually saved the city from certain doom. But that's just me. :)

And the best part about having such a supposeldy 'bad' feature? Grouping. As killing bad guys is the only activity, you'll usually find a group in minutes. Who here has wasted precious free time sitting in PoK in EQ saying 'LFG' over and over? And I won't even go into the hell that is grouping in DAoC nowadays. People are either RvRing with one of their many 50's or they have a buff bot. A task force requires as much time and dedication as a raid in other mmo's but can be set up and underway in no time at all.

There are many things this game lacks, but the simplicity of constantly doing the same one activity means you'll always be occupied from logging on to logging off, rather than logging on and sitting around for hours on end hoping someone will notice your LFG signals.

Thats true the server it was made on is great and the graphics are the best out there, but i feel like the game play sucks, thats my honest opinion, I really am tired of CoH being compaired with EQ and DAoC though, CoH would never top either game and its starting to piss me off...::::25::::::26::::::27::::::40::CoH is the DEVIL bobby buchay::::40::
