Can anyone shed some light on the actual gameplay mechanics of soul corruption?
It says in the class list that Dark Templars are "...susceptible to soul corruption".
What is the effect of this on the characters abilities/skills/misc.?

In short soul corruption is what happens as you start to cast spells, when you get to a certain point, there WILL be repercussions, and it very easily could result in death. This is not just something that Dark Templars have to worry about, but is something that applies to all the casters.
3 videos do a much better job of talking about it.

Those will do a much better job explaining it than I would.
From the latest interview only mages are susceptable to soul corruption. However, the Dark templar takes hit point damage to himself from using most of its special abilities.of course the templar can life tap that back. Im curious if they can use 2h or pole, and I havent seen any info on if they cast hots.I know They get martyr which is a big pbaoe heal that cost them hit points.
Mages are not the only ones suseptible to soul Corruption, every single class can get it. Soul Corruption is nothing more and nothing less thanthe effects of being exposed to demonic sources of power.
However, the easiest and fastest way to gain SC is by casting spells whose power comes from a non divine source. This means that mages and the Dark Templar are the main classes that have to worry about it, just not the only ones. For example, they mentioned that a Priest of Mitra in particular would have to watch his/her exposure to SC rather closely, since gaining even a tiny bit would lose him the favor of Mitra, effectively nullifying almost all of his abilities.

Here is the latest video from the producer of aoc.He covers the topic of who is susceptible to soul corruption. He clearly states at this time only mags.thats as in mage AT's are susceptible to soul corruption. He does point out they our looking into certain priest spells, priests as in the AT priests, but thats just talk ATM.Nowhere have I seen where a soldier gets soul corruption.Use common sense, the Templar take damage to use his spells as it is,dah.heres the video.

Well dark AND demonic sources of power... evil Gods and whatnot count too

Well thats not what the latest interview said.By your logic a templar should take damage and soul corruption for his abilitys. And now the support classes cant dps without fear of losing their ability to be there to support the group.maybe you two board warriors need a day off.
I have a question on spellweaving, which is probably the greatest cause for SC. They said the caster would enter a sort of trance where he'd add together the various spells. Doesn't this leave him extremely vulnerable? To my understanding sw is a sort of speciality apart from normal casting so they won't and can't use it consistently, but how does it work? Surely they won't become invulnerable for other fighters while they enter that state of trance?
//edit: sp ^^
Go watch the interview again, and LISTEN to what he said, because what you claim he said is NOT what he said.
Between 8:00 in and 9:00 in the discussion of soul corruption and magic takes place.
What he actually says is:
"Soul Corruption is something that can happen to ANY class that is involved in magic" 8:20 seconds
"It's something that is going to effect pretty much all casters who dabble in it" 8:40 seconds
What you are saying about mages it 100% not true, it's not even close to what he said. Any class that dabbles in it, so that would certainly include Dark Templars as well.
Yes, they will be quite vulnerable. I get the impression spellweaving will primarily be reserved for ambushes and group action where the caster can be shielded.

Just amother funcom unclear interview. So what is defined as magic.A templar has abilties that cause him damage.is that "magic" or an ability.I haven't seen anything on a templar actually casts spells. He vampire regens in melee, will that cause SC,he emits noxous vapors from his body is that casting, his martyr definately looks like an ability. so basically the templar isn't a caster, hes just using abilities.
so would any toon using thier class abilities go to hell for it.
OMG Dark Templars is Starcraft.
AoC copies Starcraft, stupid clone lololz.
My guess is soul corruption will ultimately be pure fluff. Corrupting Minds of player characters is always difficult, because the Player decides what his Character thinks.
Sorry Aeflin,I had bad info.I just saw new class descriptions that say the templar is the most affected by soul corruption.
I hope it is just on his spells(whateer they are) and not the abilities that cause damage on top of it.
I think after E3 some gameplay video will releashed and more official info hopefully they will clear things out before launch .Idea looks good but i am curious to see in action both pve group and pvp.
I'm just curious how is it "amother (sic) Funcom unclear interview"?
He very specifically said that all classes that dabble in magic would be effected? What is unclear about that, other than you hearing what you wanted to hear, and NOT what he actually said?
Sorry, it wasnt Funcom who was unclear, you were just wrong, end of story, nothing to be ashamed of, but why try to make it Funcom's mistake when it was clearly yours?
Wtf you wan't my first born too.I already acknowledged I was wong.
