AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

It is that time of week again!  SOE has brought us another beautiful screen shot of EverQuest II.  This shot shows a dark elf female standing in front of a grand and highly detailed ship.

Wow.  That's a great shot.  Three things that stand out to me:

    1. I like how you can see all the riggings - each individual rope.  It really adds a lot to the feeling of the ship.

    2. The texture of the canvas on the sails, as well as the little rips looks great.

    3. The way the shadows fall upon the deck of the ship.

It makes me wonder if this is going to be some kind of player owned vessel.  Maybe if I read up more on EQ2 I would know for sure. :)

When I was last at SOE they had told me that at some point players would be able to "hire" ships and crews for journeys to parts of the world.  Because EQ2 will not feature the extensive use of teleports - using ships will be important.image

that picture reminds me of the Freeport dock, the rocky cliffs in the background and the plank both says "freeport" to me

Oh the agony of riding on boats again.  Waiting 15 mins for one to arrive then sitting on your arse for another 15 mins getting to your destination.   What a giagantic waste of time  imageimage

Actually, they already adressed this issue. They found out a way to shorten this process so you don't have to wait as long, or maybe at all. Can't find the direct quote though.

And player owned boats will be included after launch sometime in an expansion or patch.

Screen shots from this game continue to amaze me. That shot of the elephants was great, and now this...

Just hope the gameplay and level grind isn't a copy of EQ 1...

I am stunned at how awesome the design is on that sail!

the Sword with a curved hilt and wings over a full moon is just uterly fantastic. I wish I thought of that symbol.

Gotta like the realism of the female character actually being covered in armor...

They are going to lose the half naked chick fanboys ::::40::

Really, no teleports? Wont they learn?!?

I think there will be teleports...it will just not be all that easy to get one.  I believe I remember them talking about how the occupants of Norrath can see the old portals...but they don't know what they are or how they work.  Remember that EQ2 takes place 500 years after EQ Live...

Chuckle, I sympathize with your dread Znith. As a warrior in EQ live I had no choice but to wait on those miserable tubs. However, from everything I've been reading about the boats in EQ II, there will no longer be a wait. When you go to the docks, you speak with a harbor master about hiring a ship to go to your location. Once the deal is struck, a ship (with an actual crew!!) will appear to take you where you wish to go. As for sitting on them with nothing to do, I read that ship travel in EQ II will be just as dangerous as traveling across land. There will be meaningful encounters and even some quests that are only accessable while traveling aboard ships! I just hope they have some pirate ships roaming the sea so we have the opportunity to beat back an attempted boarding party. image

Again a beautifully rendered screenshot with excellent levels of detail.

Also, having now seen some of the gameplay vids, I have a reasonable level of confidence that things will look this good during actual gameplay too image
