Wow you wouldn't believe the storm that the "rested xp" implementation is raising at the Vanguard forums. Seems all the "hardcore" players are threating to leave the game if it's changed in anyway as to attract more subscribes.
What a freaking joke. LOL ! They would rather have Vanguard shutdown so no one could play it then to see changes made to increase subscriber numbers so that it can turn a profit. Talk about a bunch of whinny and selfish players.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

I like VG and don't mind. I think they just want a "different" game thats why they whine.

I don't care about Vanguard, but I understand the Players.
They probably fear a "WoW-ification" of Vanguard, it starts with rested XP, then come INstanced Dungeons to make bosses available to everyone, then comes and auction house (if there is none already)...
And in the end they'll end up with a WoW 0.8 with better graphics.
WoW 0.8 with better graphics is better then WoW

I'm not sure what the intent and purpose of this thread is.
The thread on the official forums isn't that dramatic.
Wish Darkfall would release.
They fear a "WoW-ification"? You mean fear things like a healthy subscription base and something doesn't just appeal to a niche crowd?
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Vanguard players are right.
Before nerfing this game to appeal retard, they should fix the performance problem and see if the "core" players return.
If SoE nerf Vanguard they won't see any increas in subscriptions, they will just kill the game altogether (see SWG).
The problem with Vanguard is that it is already too similar to EQ2, if you make it more easy then it will clash directly with EQ2.
But EQ2 is already a well rounded and solid casual game and it will trash Vanguard with no problem.
The only chances to save Vanguard is to fix the fucking performances issues which keep "core" players away (It s not the game itself).
But if SoE nerf it before waiting for the improved performance effect, they will make a big mistake.
Watch this space.
I had caught some comment while searching the web earlier about the VG beta testers basically whining to have any feature that remotely resembled a WoW one to be remove, regardless if it was a good addition. Considering how fanatical they were in december/january railing against everyone that VG was a l33t, real gamers game, that doesn't surprise me.
According the the teaser, you will have to log out in particular spot.
Well, if you don`t want the rest xp, log out in the middle of no where
I also agree with the poster above. If they can fix performance, it will be back on track in no time.

They screwed the game up with lame combat to start with, nothing they do now will bring me back... even if they offer to hold my hand and press the buttons for me. No thanks, I want to have fun.
They probably (mind you, I can't see in theri Minds, all is just my assumption) an extreme dumbing down of the game to appeal to everyone and their little sister, so to speak.
Honestly, where in WoW do you actually have...challenge from 1-70? You always have enough Quests to kill Mobs 1 after another, Mobs that are signifacntly weaker than you are.
So yes, the easier you make a Game, the more players it has. See LotRO, WoW etc.
Vanguard was promised as a Game for the more hardcore crowd, and as far as I heard, it delivered.
When they now try to make the game Mainstream-Friendly, the only thing it'll do is kicking the Core gamers out of the game, while the Mainstream will still be WoW/LotRO.
You can't please everyone, and Vanguard failed miserably at the start, and now managed to at least please a small Hardcore crowd.
I can see the more hardcore players not wanting 'rested' exp, and trying to cater to more than one master rarely works well in an MMORPG game. You cannot create a game that appeals to everyone.....

True but don't expect to have your servers on for very long if you only go for niche audience of players. Vangaurd is a perfect is example of what happens when you only cater to minority of players.
Now that extremist minority is going to try to block any attempt to increase subscription numbers to get VG out of the red and into the black financially speaking. Some people forget that money is the motivating and key factor for all MMO ventures to succeed.

Exactly. And this is also why Ferrarris, VW Bugs, '67 Mustangs, and every other car that fits a 'niche' audience should either be discontinued or destroyed: Honda Civics for everyone. McDonald has truly paved the way to success by its appeal to the masses, doesn't the 4 Seasons resteraunt know that it is doomed to financial failure?
The above logic is so entirely flawed, it is laughable. There are many ways to make money in business. Some choose to go for mass appeal, i.e. Wal-Mart. Others, also successful and lucrative (i.e. J Crew), choose to make money off the niche that the mass market is losing. This is a basic concept of business 101. So, if this is the paper you are turning in, I'm afraid, you get an 'F'.
Vanguard could easily succeed by drawing a segment of the mmo audience that isn't being served by the Wal-Mart mmo's. With the over saturation in the current market, and the impending release of further mmo's, Vanguard's best chance of success is creating a game that stands apart from every other, and that means perfecting the systems already in place, adding cohesion to the lore, performance enhancement, original challenging content and never ever copying something that will drive it further into an oversaturated mass appeal audience.
In addition, it is common knowledge that Vanguard failed because of performance issues and game-breaking bugs - the people who think that Vanguard failed mainly due to its gameplay and target audience are the minorty. The MAJORITY of people just want them to fix performance, eradicate bugs and add more content. So, by your very own logic, if they follow your advice, they will be catering to a 'niche' minority.
But mind you, this is only a well thought out reasoned 'guess' at what the future holds. If you have a lock on seeing the future, I suggest you use it in more lucrative ways than applying it to computer game forums.

Even going back to the early development stages and beta, the VG community has been horrible. I don't base that on what I've seen here, but you can see the same type of people posting here. I've never read such posts from elitist jerks in my life. Somehow if we didn't bow down to "The Vision" and proclaim VG could do everything from curing cancer to making world peace then you were rudely shouted down and told to "go back to WoW" by all the Vanboi douchebags.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Exactly, they appealed to the "freak" and they have no players, raise subscription rates to $100.00 a month, change the game, or shut it down!
The game is bleeding cash, I am glad the Vanbois will be the downfall so that crowd never gets another game directed to them.
Remember these same Vanbois were claiming they quit WoW with their friends "so it was losing players", they claimed this when WoW had 4 million playing, now WoW hit 9 million players. These guys are clueless, heck some claimed Vanguard would steal all the WoW player base, rofl. The only retards are the Vanbois making claims like that, certainly not people entertained by WoW or even Vanguard for that matter on the games merits! Vanguard could be successful, make what changes need to be made, let the elitist fools go.
I argue with the fact the "Vision" and not the hardware problems are in fact the problem with the game. How many pre-ordered WoW compared to Vanguard? Only 200k even bothered with trying this game. We all know Vanguard is aimed at a puny player base, and we want nothing to do with that type of player. So let this game rot.
So keep screaming "GO PLAY WoW" because we are!!!!!!!!!!! I can choose my server and adult crowd I hang with in that game and instancing makes sure I don't have to deal with the obnoxious kiddies that played EQ. They trained, they did zone wide cursing, they acted the fool, and now they are in their own instance and not in mine!
This game has lost its way. It doesn't know if it should be hardcore or casual. It doesn't know if it should be PvE or PvP. PvP is clearly tagged on at the end. All they are doing is fixing bugs and trying to stabilize it.
Perhaps when they release an expansion, they could refocused. Until they show they know what to do and do it with conviction, they are just lost grasping at straws trying to retained players.
Incidentally, AoC just received another 30M funding. If they don't waste it, when they release the game, you will see another drop in subs. I also think they might delay so Vg still gets a little bit of breathing room lol.
So explain to me how Vangaurd will make money if it continues to appeal to a very few hardcore group players??? Have you even looked at the servers lately ? They are freaking dead as in dead as a door nail. So unless the few remaining group of hardcore players are willing to shell out a few hundred dollars a month for this game I don't see how your illogical way of think adds up to "dollars and sense".
If anything is flawed it's your weak attempt to vainly grasp at straws in order to justify the continued failure of Vangaurd and somehow assert the idea that catering to hardcore players was a success for Vanguard and Sigil.
Oh and last I checked Ferrari wasn't hemorrhaging money left and right like Sigl and Vanguard but there cars cost an arma and a leg. VW Bugs were mass produced and sold enough models to turn a profit and were eventually brought back in newly updated and polished streamlined model. Which was also mass produced and made money. 1967 Mustangs were extremely successful but the model and were mass produced at one point but are no longer produced by Ford hence the 67 before it as in 1967.
If anyone with a shred of intelligence were to think through your statements and compare it to the complete and utter failure of Vangaurd they would realize how out of touch you are with reality. All those cars and car companies made tons of cash which you cannot say is the same for Vangaurd or Sigil. Your post only shows that you have idea about what the hell you are talking about period.
Thankfully SOE realizes and understands what needs to be done in order to keep this game afloat and gain new subscriptions for it. The only sad part is that it will be to little to late because of all the new MMO's which will be launching soon. SOE is going to have a very hard up hill battle in order to gain enough subscribers to maintain this title in a sea of newly released MMO's.

When are SOE, Turbine etc. gonna learn that having a market saturated by WoW clones is not gonna increase revenues. There is a viable market for Hardcore games and games that are different. They may not produce the numbers WoW has, but they will garnish long term loyal customers.
Funny thing is, a good portion of Vanguard players are normal WoW kids, that have not played an MMO before that, and now consider themselves "Ubaleet progamurzroxxorsyerboxxorzlmaolollolol". The "Vanguard is so hardcore, only the most intelligent and best players can play it" kind of give that away as clear as a really clear day. Nothing hardcore there, not even close to UO or even EQ in hardcoreness. But there they are, so proud of themselves they know what a corpse run is.

This is you.
VW beetles were hardly a niche car,its one of the best selling cars in the world, with a production run thats lasted over 50 years..
At the moment, vanguards more like a delorean
It's really very easy, either you appeal more to mainstream, you increase the subs or the game dies. If the hardcoreplayers are willing to pay 5x their ordinary sub, I see no problem with it.

First of all, a game itself can never be hardcore, a game can be more complex or more intuitive but not hardcore.
Secondly, "hardcore" is a way of a player approaching a game, so in fact you can play any game hardcore or casual, it just depends on your approach to games and gaming in general.
And as a third point, VG-hardliners should think twice if they flame any try to make the game attract a more "average" crowd, because if this won't happen their beloved game will vanish very very soon with subs numbers now being around 40k only.
I loved Vanguard for 50 levels and had much fun with this crashing, unfinished pile of code, but finally decided that it is not worth my money anymore, at least not for now. What time migh bring is a different story.
"When they now try to make the game Mainstream-Friendly, the only thing it'll do is kicking the Core gamers out of the game, while the Mainstream will still be WoW/LotRO."
You people are really missing out with your constant attempts to try to "credit" the success of Lotro to "wowification." The reason the success of Lotro is the immersiveness.
To say Vanguard is unsuccessful because the player base hates WOW is another missing of the point. Vanguard is unsuccessful because the developers are lazy.
