Player Run World!?!?!?

This game has no FAQ on their site so can someone please anwser these questions. this look slike my dream game about to go preorder. At first was not down for this game but then I heard this was a sandbox and player run economy. That means hopefully no senseless mind numbing grinds. looks like a title for mature players

1) Will this game have levels? Thats my main question. How does the character progression work? Any links appreciated. but since it player run this not a deal breaker

2) if im a pirate someone claims if I board an enemy ship I keep it? Like if im in PVP, I can board someone ship and keep all the spoils?!

If #2 is true sign me up. I'll go preorder this thing. actually im thinking ima preorder this regardless I hear its due out soon!

and just a little update, The latest Dev Log on the site has said that they have just added 1,000 quests for each nation, wich means 4,000!  Now I do not know alot of mmo's but I think it is rare to have that many missions.

Well if I read correctly you are onboard with all npc's. Your buddies aren't sailing with ya. If so that blows it for me probably.

Your buddies can be sailing with you, they just are in ships of their own.  You are a CAPTAIN in this game, each player has their own ship.  You don't start out as a cabin boy and spend the first 10 levels swabbing decks and polishing guns on someone else's ship.  Instead you each have a ship and can form your own squadron or fleet to do missions together.

If you think about it a bit, the gameplay for the players who are on someone else's ship would be incredibly dull.  As in:

"Please, Joe, I'm tired of looking at the scenery. Get us into a fight so I can fire this cannon once every 30 seconds when it reloads."

As the captain, you get to make tactical decisions about ship position, which batteries to fire, which skills to use, etc.  As well as long term goals about your destination, what missions to do, whether to join the economic game, take part in port contention PVP battles, etc.  None of that would be open to a PC crewmember.  So we don't have them.  We have NPC crewmembers for color to add life to the game, but PC's are too important to have swabbing the decks.

One of the best ways to learn about PotBS is to read their dev logs.  They've given out a lot of information on the game in these.  I'd start with the State of the Game dev log, then the newer ones and then go back to read the older ones.

Also the Explore option on their site gives good info also, especially the ship guide in the Library.

For those who don't read dev logs on burningsea.com (you should they have the info you need) not directed at you Vajuras but for others. Level system atm is 1-50.  For #2  I dont post on game content such as that until I've played it.

To answer your question about boarding ships as a pirate:

If you are playing as a pirate and catch up to an enemy player's ship, you can grapple it.  You and some of your crew then board their ship and you have a swordfight on the deck against  the other ship's NPC crew and player captain.  If you win the fight, you capture their ship and its cargo and can sail it as your own.

Also, levels do not make you generally stronger...they simple act as places to choose a new skill.  You will add 25 ship skills, and 25 avatar skills by the time you get to 50.

Only pirates can claim a defeated ship.  When they do, it will have low durability, which means, one of the next times it loses a battle, it will be lost permanently.  Members of the other nations can loot cargo from defeated ships.

The economy is player driven, but will have some NPC helps early on.  The Dutch will remain an NPC neutral nation for players to trade some goods with.  All the components of ships, and, the ships themeselves, can/will be built by players.

Nearly all the ports in the game can be captured by opposing factions.  When a port goes into contention, a PvP battle is generated for players in the game.  Winner of the battle controls the port.

Ownership of ports generates victory points.  When a certain faction wins enough points (should take a while), all members of that faction are given a reward.  Then the ports are reset, via treaties.

Ok you can form a squad and that sounds somewhat ok. But I saw in the minds eye being the ones boarding an opponents ship for hand to hand battle between crews.  My next question is this. I read that in ship to ship battle you enter an instance I think. If so would the whole squad against squad do the same on a large scale? Regardless this game sounds and looks awesome.....

Ship battles are instanced.  Extra ships can be invited into a ship battle.  More than one captain can board an opposing ship.

I really love the design that went into this. I hope everyone still retains their interest in this game of recent announcements.

This level system is seriously interesting guys. yes it will still have grind but it encompasses everything I kinda want

    - risk vs reward to some extent

    - durability hits

    - leveling progression is really skill based. you earn XP to unlock new skills. but your hitpoints never change! All weapons always have value

    - player run economy

This game is deep and only original thing we got. closest thing to payer run universe coming out (unless Darkfall hits). but for now this game has many strong ponts!!! well not trying to be a fanboi already but I am pretty sold on this one.

only thing wasnt excited about many hrs to hit cap but they might make it so we can still PVP decent even at low levels i hope

maybe i will start a topic bout that concern later. they mentioned 300 hrs possibly to hit cap is that what you guys want? for pvpers might be a long wait??? my only worry
