    So just let it go.

Raven, it was not just a game to many. The fact this topic is repeated over and over again here and at other mmo sites. Pre-nge SWG was not just a game. I was ill for a few years right when SWG came out. SWG offered me a way to not feel stuck inside all the time. Even when I felt so sick I did not want to get out of bed SWG got me up and it help me during my recovery. People met and even got married from playing SWG. I know this has happened in other mmos but not to the level of SWG. What people are missing is not the game based on the movie but the experience. A lot of the people who can not let SWG go were not even SW fans. Many of the players in my guild and metropolis (I founded a guild and was mayor of a city with over 400 members) did not care butt one about SW and it's lore. They played for the sandbox experience. Many even got into the movies for the first time because of the game.

Everyone knows SOE will not bring back Classic SWG they have made that clear. What we can hope for is they see the mistake and potential dollar signs and offer another sandbox game. What all this whinning is really about is a cry to other developers to get their heads out of Blizzards butt and create another sandobx game like SWG. Some smart developer will see this someday. They will have 500k customers the first day if they offer them a sandox SWG like experience. However no one has seen the dollar signs yet. Turbine had the best chance to do this but they dropped the ball with LOTRO. They made a good well polished beautiful game, with exaclty zero sandbox feel to it. They could have done this in a casual way which is the experience they want there players to have. I want to love that game but it does not seem to be happening. Sandbox does not have to be hardcore. The closest thing to a sanbox type game is EQ2 light years away from SWG but EQ2 has shown me SOE can do right by a game. Put the experience first and the dollar signs will follow.

So I say don't let it go. Cry and whine loud and clear!  Maybe some other developer will hear you. However, next time though realize what you have and support it! You always realize what you had after it is gone. I remember a lot of whinning about pre-nge SWG on the forums. Players took for granted the experience and just bitched about it all the time. Well SOE listened and look at the results. All I read about was SWG was not Star Warsy enough for players. Players complained about the game all the time. They changed the game the way they thought players wanted it. If you remember the forums in those days people complained more about SOE and SWG then praised them for that amazing game. I am sorry to say this but the player base had a lot to do with the development NGE by all their complaining. Many of you who miss it are part of the reason it is gone. Sometime the truth hurts. SOE I think learned a leason with SWG but all you players have you learned yours?

If other developers haven't heard the whining loud and clear yet, give it up.  You'll never get through to them.  And when people loose sight of the fact that like all other MMOs, it is in fact just a game, bad things happen.  Whether it helped get you off drugs, brought you through a rough time, or introduced you to your spouse....it's still just a game.  Nothing more.  Nothing less.

Ok, I can agree that It's just a game.  But like every sports, every hobbies, there are passionate fans that will be affected when things happened..  Like a baseball fan who gets depress/angry when his favorite team loses.  Like a football fan who get so excited over "his" team won a game on television.  SWG have its own fans in that regard.

People feel passionate about different things, and many SWG vets feel very passionate about that the game used to be, because it was something they spend countless hours trying to build.  Imaging if you are a car lover, and you were given the tools and resources to build your own hot rod.  When you are finished with it, and feel proud of what you've done, the company that lend you the tool and resources just took it away without any reason.  How would you feel?  Or if something you are passionate about were to be taken away from you, how would you react?

Along with the act of destroy what the players had built, SOE and Lucas Arts decided to lie about their intention in the hope that they can attract more people into the game.  I can understand that companies are in it for the profits, but when you hurt your player base like that, you wouldn't get far in the business.

So, yes, it's just a game, but it is also a game where the players are passionate about it, and would continue to remember.

    Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR

Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)

The vets that say... It was just a game.. give up... are fine to have that opinion...its there right.

the vets that stay mad... guess what that is there right as well, they have Time , money and a piece of there life spent. That is there right to be mad.

ANd yes ppl that love SOny, for what ever god awful reason, its there right to feel that way as well.

But if you dont care and over it, why are you reading this forum?

If you love sony (especially EQ2) why are you here? If there that great you dont need to defend them.

In the end no one can tell someone else how to feel about anything.

Let the vets that are mad vent off steam, if you dont like it, dont read it. Cause your not going to stop them in a forum set up just for them to Vent!

    lol

Personally I made my feeling wants and issues clear, and I still hope that SWG will get classic servers. That is why I post here.

that and watching the drama gives me something to laugh at while at work on grave yard shift.

so all of you vets, non caring ppl , and soe defenders thank you for the free entertainment.

Thanks for the original post. I too am not over it but have been lurking in the game since the NGE without really playing. I decided after reading this to finally cancel both my 4 year account and my 3 1/2 year account. On top of that I am going to cancel Vanguard since Sony bought that too. I just wish I had done it earlier, logging in to SWG was just like salting an open wound. The longest I have been able to stay away in the past was only 2 months, I hope to make it permanent this time.

Just remember that everytime you pay a dollar to SOE a puppy is brutally slain by being tossed into a meat grinder while Smed, cackles in pure delight at the sounds of the shreiks.

This particular forum was created with the express purpose of letting Vets/Exiles/Refugees have their say. I don't understand the view point of SOE/LA "agent provocateurs" coming here and disrupting the flow of information and exchange of opinions amongst us old school players.

I played SWG. I had God damn' goose bumps the first time I logged in. Yes, at first it was a game. Then it evolved. I met friends, was lucky to get into an extremely good guild and it grew on me. Eventually I didn't log on to get credits, fame and fortune. I logged in to see how my friends were doing, what they'd been doing IRL and discuss all kinds of topics. Hell, when one of my best in-game friends wanted to go to Europe I invited him to stay at my place instead of getting ripped off at a hotel.

The point I'm making is this. It wasn't just a game. It was in the beginning, but it became something more. No other MMO has succeeded in this. Also, don't forget, The game wasn't necessarily built like this. It had many flaws and bugs, the game culture and the "feel" of the game was created by the players, not planned by the devs. Hell, in every single forum I go to people still remember their server name!!!           After 3 years!!!           I can't even remember the name of my server in WoW after 2 months, seriously. But I do know the name of my first and only home - Corbantis. I also remember being part of something intangible, something very positive. I wasn't a guy from Denmark anymore - I was Dritzz Darkwood, rifleman at heart, hanging out with the guys from the AnchorHead Defense Force. In the end there is nothing left, Order 66 has eliminated the best of us and all that remains are the anguished voices of long gone days. We may be looked down upon, we may be considered an non-viable target group , but we are legion...

It might be illogical to hate SOE after so long, but I'll never let it go.  Never has a client base been treated so badly as what went on with the NGE.  I was pissed after the CU, but got over it.  NGE?  Never forgive. Never forget. I don't actively bash the game, but when asked about anything sony related, I do voice my opinion.

Admittedly, there are some who are frothing at the mouth still, but that's good. for every one frothing at the mouth, there are 10 lurkers such as myself who feel pretty much the same way, but would rather not deal with fanbois and endless forum wars...

I vowed to myself never to give sony or it's affiliates another dime.. ever.   Thats the reason I never bought vanguard (I beta'd and liked it actually), and won't buy POTBS (even though it most likely will be a spectacular game, eventually some of my money ends up in SOE pockets... so NO thanx).

Illogical? Perhaps.   I suppose many don't understand the depth of hatred many have for SOE.  Honestly, subscribing to any SOE game to me is like subscribing to a game developed, made and marketed by Hitler.  I wouldn't do so on a moral basis, and would do my best to encourage others not to as well.  SOE will not get another penny from me. Ever.

Do you think this systemic hatred of SOE is a mere coincidence?  Even if you don't understand, you must realize SOMETHING happened to piss off at least 100k people.  Like it or not, SOE will forever have a "hater" base, one that's not a vocal minority.

Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?  Even after a year and a half, so many people are still talking about pre-cu SWG.  I too have not let it go, though I do not hate SOE or LA.  I think that hate is not the right way to go, there being too much of it out there already.  Passion, on the other hand, is perfectly understandable.

I had a passion for the game, the freedom, the open ended nature of it, even when I ran (before mounts and speeders) across Yavin for hours trying to find the rebel base.  Running to get to the Tusken Fort, dying after 2 minutes, then running back to get my corpse.  Spending hours trying to find the best spot to harvest a particular resource.  The thrill of making a weapon someone else would actually use, knowing my characters name was on it, and it was unique to any other item in the game.

It is near impossible to actually describe what we had.  Yes there were many bugs, and several of the professions were horribly gimped, but they were fun anyway.  And how many games would players regularly get dressed up (no armor) and just chat?  There was no pressure to level all the time.  And you would see full template characters with newbies all the time.

How many of you spent time in the newbie zones, helping people and giving them stuff?  In part it was because there was no real tutorial.  We were the guides.  The community.  It was special in ways I cannot communicate.  I wish everyone could have experienced that.

In part we, the vets, are here to continue to communicate to all the developers out there that, there are consequences for every action.  Even if a sandcastle is not perfect, you do not stomp on it, and give everyone a mold they have to use.   It was MY sandcastle gorammit!  And even if others thought it was lopsided and funny looking, it was still mine!

I think all of us SWG Vets need to start a petition for SOE to make a Pre-NGE Galaxy... We keep complaining about it so lets do something about!!! If I knew how to start one or who i would send it t I would, but i don't. So please someone who knows how to go about this start one up, maybe we'll get our SWG back.

Maybe someone has tried, but if we keep on pushing maybe SOE/LA will finally realize how stupid they really are!!!

It wont happen because NGE is fantastic in LA's eyes....

Food for thought -- if your friend was still grieving for a lost love after 2 years, it's pretty likely you would consider that behavior unhealthy. Now, we're coming up on the 20 months since the NGE's release  and you should start asking yourselves if you're making any progress through the grieving process.  I'm not belittling your attitudes, I felt the same way (in fact it was my first post, right near the 1 year anniversary of the NGE: www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/101388) but with all do respect you need to at least consider letting go and moving on.

Enough with the 'I'm not over you stuff', yes what SOE/LA did to the game(and customers) was unforgivable. However most people are going about this the wrong way, stop giving the NGE SWG hype either good or bad. Eventually SOE will close the servers and it will be sooner rather than later.

The only solution to this problem is getting SOE out of the mix by eliminating their business, Lucas Arts(being the greedy bastards they are) will listen to offers of other MMO companies for the rights to Star Wars. And problem solved: SWG2, Star Wars Universe,            ZOMG!! 9000 Jedis.... Whatever you want to call it will emerge eventually.

I hope that if they were to make a SWG 2 they would not make it so everyone could be a jedi.. I like th eway they did it before... an elite professtion for which you had to work hard to earn. The game will not be fn if everyone s a jedi as you well tell with the NGE.. WHat we need is a game liek SWG pre cu or cu but "Balanced" Jedi should be the most powerful yes.. but not UBER! a BH should still beable to take them down and they should beable to be droped and not have to have 5 guys to kill them... but they should still be semi hard to drop... I see death to a game where everyone may be a jedi because ti would get old... and old fast!.. and you must releize that jedi even in the old republic and new republic days were rare.... If you look at the game they had like what... 100 jedi?

    Aren't there Pre-Cu private servers?

You all act like the loss of Pre-Cu is the end of the world.

If that's the case, and you really loved it that much, then why don't you play Pre-Cu?

There are several private servers that are Pre-Cu. Do you all not know that? Your "dream" is being played right now as we speak.

    there are?

Meh, the private Pre-CU servers are all running off the test info put out by SWGEmu. It is very incomplete....basically you can just log on and run around and /duel. Not that we should be talking about private servers at all.

With such massive outrage dealing with Pre-Cu, I don't understand why, after so long, they haven't already successfully and completely emulated it.

    Weird.

    SOE is teh

No seriouslyit was an amazing game for a lot of people including me but its over now.   For the original poster the fact that you met your wife in game, well your experience was definately more amazing than mine.  But people need to try to move on, the game is not coming back, there are good MMO's out there.  Sure there will never be another classic SWG but then again there will never be another DAOC, WOW,  EQ, L2, FF, ect.  You have to treat each new MMO with an open mind, dont compare them to SWG because you will downright hate them all, play them as if they were your first and give them a chance.
