UI options?

CelestianCelestian Member UncommonPosts: 1,136

I am curious if anyone knows about the UI "mods" that will be allowed? Will it be on the level of EQ2 or more like WoW's addons?

I really find the WoW addons to be really amazing way to customize your UI. I play a healer so being able to change the way the UI reacts and presents data to help me heal a bit better and easier is great.

If this is covered somewhere and someone has a link for the information I'd be grateful if you posted said link.

It depends mythic EULA, usually companies have no problem with software or mods that dont give you an advantage, or interact with the server.

Then again mythic isn't blizzard, and war isn't warcraft, so the rules could change.

well many of the mods in wow DID give you a huge advantage which kinda wasnt fair if someone else isnt using them.  I was a druid and had a few rogues, some of the mods i used were overpowering and very common like stunlock and decurse.  Compared to someone who isnt using these its really quite a huge difference.

I've read somewhere that the developer/person in charge of the UI will have a customizable interface for the players. If this uses LUA (such as WoW) or another language he could not say. But he did assure the players that it will rock and it will be very customizable. What this means exactly...? Nobody knows except the guy in charge but I expect they'll attempt @ mimicking the success WoW has had with addons at least @ the UI level.

Not forget it made playing a Healer just plain boring, because there were times where you only needed to click one single Button over and over again, and all the rest was done for you ~.~

Also note that many Add-Ons are banned and banned again in every Patch that comes, only 1-2days after the Patch a new UI Mod with the same unbalancing features appears again.

I hope WAR does not allow this idiocy, it's all about "Who got the better AddOns" instead of who is the better player -.-

Im pretty sure its been said in one of the interviews that mods wont be supported, reason being along of the lines of if you needs mods we failed to do our job with the UI properly. Ill try and find a link.

Edit: Found it and my memory failed me :(

Question 7: No modding of art but there will be UI modding.

Well this may be outdated (ie they changed it but have not said so) But, so far they did state this .. ie the ui will be good.

However, they also said the LUA (or this type) was planned. In any case at one point they have stated that mods are in.

It happens but the idea was right Mythic plans on making the ui good enough to not have to mod it.

Still people like to tweak, and the interface or the way your UI looks is somthing people like to use to be individual.

This is somthing that intrests me a lot, and I'll like to see what does happen.

Just give me something clean looking, compact and doesn't take up half my darn screen and I'll be happy.

This gives me hope. I'm not really concerned that it does what WoWs did but something on that level. Really being able to adjust my layout and options specific to my class I am playing really makes the game much more enjoyable for me.

It will also be interesting to see what stat mods come out for tracking healing, dps and damaged absorption as well. I really like to pour over that stuff to tweak my play and make myself better.

Sounds like there are 2 different opinions here on if there will be guess we'll have to wait and see though. Just hope they do... yeah they can make a great UI but it won't ever be as good for a player as everyone might want. Noble goal but... well lets me honest, not gunna happen.

Back in January, curse-gaming got a direct answer:

    Curse-gaming interview:

Q: What kind of features/support is planned for interface modification or addons?

A: We are aiming for the game interface to be very modifiable. The actual method we have chosen for WAR is to have LUA addons. Extracting ingame information like item stats, character profiles, quest information and similiar will be possible.

In February WorthPlaying posted this after returning from Mythic's press event:

    Worthplaying preview:

Warhammer Online supports a wide range of user interface mods which are created using the LUA scripting language. In essentially the same and popular fashion as World of Warcraft mods, authors can customize the default Warhammer Online interface all the way to creating full new interfaces and functionality entirely. While safeguards will be in place to prevent exploits or mods that would make the game play itself for you (such as automating skill use or making looping macros), the title is otherwise wide open to let mod authors edit the interface to their will.
