There is no way this game will be good or "next best thing". How long have we been waiting for "next best thing"? Oh boy we said lot's of stuff about Vanguard, then there was LotRO and down the line there was good old Dark And Light - God, that went well.
So every day we are dieing here for good MMO and hoping for next best thing but we never got it. Why will this game be any different? I bet my left ball this game will suck, this is just BS hype and in the end we will all be saying to each other "I told ya so" ... And SoE will buy the game.
It's just not meant for us MMO gamers - This game will suck!

You could post this in all the new Under development games and 70% of the time you'd be right, way to really put yourself out there on a limb. Gutsy call man.

The difference between Funcom and Sigil is that Funcom is a real company with a real staff behind it. Unlike Sigil, Funcom isn't ran by a squid. Like a squid, Sigil's CEO never had a backbone. Funcom learned from the early days of AO. Three reasons why AoC won't suck. 1. No elves. 2. No gnomes. 3. No Orcs. October will be a very good month for the MMOG industry.

I think you hit on something here... it occurs to me that a significant percentage of the people regularly posting on these forums don't seem to like MMOs much. Oh, they want to, but time and time again they are disappointed in what is offered up. They are patiently waiting for the game that finally make them happy, or live up to the idealistic memory they have built up in their heads of their first MMO experience, (which they mysteriously don't play any more.) They complain that all the new games that come out are copies of all the previous games, although they keep buying games of the same genre or even from the same developers. They keep buying the same type of game and somehow expecting it to be different this time... brings to mind a saying about the definition of insanity.
Some are just killer-ap hunters, never content with what they have, not knowing that what they really enjoy is the anticipation of something new and undiscovered. Once discovered, the game turns out to be just another lame MMO to them. Yet they persevere, every day watching their post-count climb as criticize those of us who actually enjoy MMOs and have one they are happily playing. All the while, the MMO market is healthy, and growing every day... they can't all be bad, can they?
off topic, the fact that you lump LOTRO in with the two most dismal, dissapointing failures in MMO history is absurd. Whether you like it or not, the game is receiving universally positive reviews and thousands upon thousands of people are playing it and enjoying it every day. Does it occur to you that maybe you don't like MMOs, or that it's just possible you are simply a malcontent? Maybe you don't like video games at all... just some food for thought.

It all sucked.
But MXO and SWG has no elves gnomes or orcs and they BOTH suck! so obviously AoC will suck... cant you see the logic?!?!?!
yeah.. usually the "no orcs" comments are reserved for game that aren't in a fantasy setting. In Conan it just means less visual variety to players in an otherwise standard fantasy setting. One thing it does different than other fantasy games is to emasculate the players in a never ending sea of kilts and various other short skirts... but hey, at least their are no elves.

What are you talking about no one bought Anarchy Online. Still on and running with FUNCOM el Enstein. If you think the game will suck why are you having us waste precious moments out of our day to read your rants on why this game will fail you. DONT BUY it smart one and you wont have to worry about the game failing you. Wow wasnt that simple your problem is solved and you no longer have to feel like you wasted 50 dollars to purchase the next MMO.

He has a point with the Dark & Light and Vangard which got 95% negative reviews but LOTRO wasn't a failure.... anywho he was bored... decided he'd try to get a bunch of people to flame him for his mysterious theory which may in fact be correct. Yet regardless to if it is or isn't correct I will be playing (1) of the new games. Hopefully they all will have a short and sweet open beta phase that will give us a chance to determine which STATE OF THE ART product best fits us.
1) AGe of Conan 2) Gods & Heroes 3) Pirates of the Burning Sea 4) Warhammer 5) Tabula Rasa 6) Darkfall .... and whichever other exceptionally terrific looking game is in production to be released. I personally need something with some new gameplay or features to tide me over for a while ... not sure which product will do it we can only wait and see.
Hype is a figment of the imagination inserted into things people wish can provide them with something they've never experienced. Accept it, as it'll always be here.

My eyes are open! Why bother with all "Oh can't wait for it" crap - don't lie to yourself! You know this game as any other game that is not made by Blizz will suck big time! And even Blizz games start to suck after 1 month. There is no chance on earth this game will deliver what devs are promising - we seen it 100 times and every time it happens we flame the crap out of devs and/or SoE for being involved.
As much as I would want this game to be big... Nothing will change the fact that it will suck. Maybe it will not be total disaster - but some small thing here, some small thing there and when it adds up you get the game that sucks! It's all about the money and nothing about the game!
But I'll be a good sport here and in XY months when this game gets out - I will not rub it in and sing I-Told-Ya-So song.
I mean for God's sake... I made this account looong time ago and I have yet to see the "next big thing", I've seen it all! I've seen 100 and 100 of topics "OMG THIS IS THE YEAR OF MMO GAMES" and "XY-GAME WILL BE NEXT BEST THING". MMOs are going downhill... I'm no expert at making games but it really makes me wonder - what are devs thinking? Did they even play any games, ever? Did they at least played the game that they just made? MMOs are doomed! MMOs must die so all the greedy companies can f-off, so the guys with passion and heart for games can come along and make NEXT BIG THING.

PS: I'm not AoC hater or anything... But face it. It will suck.... Just like every other MMO our there.

Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.
Right, well, only fools didn't see VG for what it will be, especially after the first beta leaks. Only reason I tried VG was cause Brad bashed a game I liked to oblivion (no, not WoW), and then I said okay Brado, show me what YOU have, which was stinking pile of bull, and anyone with brains could see a mile away the failure it was.
DnL was also a no brainer, just like Darkfall is now. Games that will suck usually stink a mile away. All you have to do is look a bit in to the facts, and in the works.
Just because you were naive and fell for the hype doesn't mean that all games are shit, means you can't tell them apart fast enough. Think about that, brain man!
From what i have read there are some things I like and some things I don't about AOC (go figure). How these features come to culmination will determine it's over all success, however, the one thing I am sure of is that AOC will not be another SWG, D&L or Vanguard. While there has certainly been some loser MMo's in the past and I think it is important to learn from these disaters. However, Funcome isn't a rogue inexperinced developer or SOE. While it's important to look at the disaters of the past it is equally important to look at the success and Funcom has been not only a succusful game designer, but has been one of the most forthright and ethical software companies in businesss. You can't justifiably ignore Funcom's past and assume that AOC will be a disater because other unrelated games were a disater.
By the same conclusion, WARHAMMER ONLINE will suck too? And any game you haven't tried will suck. Perhaps, no, probably it is you the one who sucks. Perhaps gaming is no longer an option for you, try again with real life, perhaps more chances this time!
