Soundtracks you loved

What games had soundtracks so good that you wanted to buy them?

I actually did buy the soundtrack to Jade Empire.  There is some wonderful stuff on that cd.  The main theme, of course, but so much more.  Jack Wall, according the the case.

Also, Morrowind is one of my favorite themes of all time.  I can sometimes still hear it in my sleep, haha.  Generally though, anything Jeremy Soule puts out is incredible.

LOL.  Believe it or not, that's one of my ringtones.  It's like a mating call to other gamers everywhere I go.

As far as MMO's go, for the most part none of them are very good save one: Lineage 2's music is awesome.

Baldurs Gate 2, I actually found out how to play the music for that outside of the game, just some of the stuff that they had when I first played it and still is to be honest, really gives you that epic feeling and the game was damn huge

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

Strictly MMOs: WoW, and GW (all the campaigns).

As far as non-mmo...too many to name.

Just about any Korean High Budget game has a killer sound track.  Like Granado Espada and Ragnarok Online 2 have an incredible sound track.  There just isn't anything like them on the market.

Docking music from Elite on the C64

I have most of the Final Fantasy soundtracks...that guy is a genious.

Music for Morrowind was incredible...might be the best orchestrated score ever, imho. (Oblivion was not as good as Morrowing imho, musicly speaking).

I do like the title theme for the Halo series...man, once that gets in your head...

I also like the work Jesper Kid does (Hitman series, Cronicles of Spellborn)

    As far as MMO's go:

WoW has a very well done score. They really nail the mood of each zone.

EvE has got some great ambient music.

The music when arriving on Lok in SWG is by far the coolest in ANY game I've ever experienced.

Unfortunetly thats where the excitement ends as well.

I havn't found an MMO that really has music worth mentioning... most is just mediocre. The best soundtracks are FF8 and FF10 by a longshot. The time and effort put into all the Final Fantasy soundtracks is impressive to say the least.

FF6 had some good ones, I loved how each character had their own "theme song" Kefka would come on or something he/she did would spark the music.

Or who can forget Shadow's song, he seemed cold and distant just from the music without him actually doing anything.

If you're talking about Nobuo Uematsu, then I agree. Too bad he left after FFX (or was it FFIX?).

But SE did a good job on FFXI too, ie the zone music from The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah is perfect :)

One might call foul here, in that its soundtrack was not original, but taken straight from the trilogy soundtracks (doesn't mean it doesn't rock!)

The ancient PS game Wipeout... Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Orbital... I couldn't play the game.  I have sucky reflexes.  I didn't mind a bit when my husband played.  They even did a soundtrack album although not all of the songs were in the game.  I can't remember exactly all that were... it was a bazillion years ago!  I still enjoy the album compilation, though.

I had that game myself... the soundtrack enlisted some of the biggest names in Techno culture at the time, I'm surprised they were able to do it.

Having said that, the soundtrack for Tropico 2: Pirate Cove is pretty good. Very Caribbean-style music and it'll have you humming the songs in your head for hours after you turn the game off. Some of the songs are more tropical, while some sound more like something a pirate would actually sing. It's great.

As far as MMOs, I always thought Runescape and WoW had pretty good musical scores. WoW, and especially Zangarmarsh, reminded me of the Myst sequels at times.
