What ever happend to...

doctor's buffs, Can anyone explain why they nerfed them? I remember way back in pre-cu I would have a longest line of people waiting for the set of buffs. I must have made a  million dollars in just 1 hour  (15-18k a person depending on demand and supply)...

The CU basically wiped out the entire medical buff aspect of the game.  It also wiped out the medical centers as social hot spots, because medical XP was restricted to that earned in combat only.  The devs said that medical XP earned outside of combat was "free' XP, and they didn't want anyone earning "free' XP.  So docs, medics, and CMs had no reason to hang out in medical centers to heal people who were wounded, which still happened if you got killed in space.  In the preCU system, you could suffer wounds from disease or combat, and would need to get them healed by a medic/doc/CM, or by just being in the medical center your wounds would slowly heal over time.  You could also receive damage, which would reduce your health, action, or mind pools temporarily and recover on its own, or be rapidly healed by a medic.   Medic types had to craft or buy from other medical crafters the cannisters that they used to heal damage or wounds.

The CU destroyed medical crafting completely; all the heals, the very limited new buffs, and the debuffs of the CMs were now magic spells that did not require pharmaceuticals to accomplish.   There were "enhancement" pharmaceuticals that could be crafted by bio-engineers, but they were not worth the resources and effort to craft that they took to create, because the duration was measured in minutes and the buff effect was hardly noticeable.   The "new" buffs that came in were very short duration (like 20 minutes at most) and much less of a buff than the old doc buffing system, which buffed the six health and action pools based on the quality of the pharmaceutical applied to the buffee.  The buffs could last as long as three hours or longer based on the power of the buff pack used on you, and that value was based on the Decay Resistance quality of the resources used to craft the buff.   The strength of the buff was determined by the Overall Quality of the resources used as well as its Potential Energy, and this is the simplified explanation, medical crafting was very intricate and complex...like the entire crafting system was originally.

The doctor buff system needed to be modified, because doc buffs to the secondary stat pools basically made armor encumbrance trivial, and created situations where the regeneration of health and action pools was greater than the damage inflicted by most mobs in PvE.  It became difficult to die in PvE due to the over buffing of the players and the savage nerfing of the mobs, in part to destroy the power of CHs in PvP.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

The CU happened to them...  Doctors became pretty worthless and the social interaction of the hospital became a thing of the past.  The CU ended the need for the doctor profession.

Yep. The entire crafting lines of meds, CM goods & buff packs were wiped out, so the business side of doc/CM that many enjoyed bellied up with the CU too.

I have a Ent and a doc, People pay me for the buffs, but now depending on the length and power its around 30-40k, can get a nice line going.

Then you would be the FIRST that I have seen doing that in the NGE, especially with lines?  Ya right...

Actually Entertainer buffs now are very, very good. This of course just recently changed during the Chapter 5 publish, I think. I'm not sure on the medic buffs, but I wouldn't count them out. I have seen lines for entertainers as well.

Now, I do prefer the old system, but it would have been nice to give entertainers something more like they have now, instead of just mind healing/buffing.

Another victim sacrificed on the altar of  "balance".  In reality the doctors buffs had gotten so good that everyone thought they couldn't play without them and for the most part they were right.  Something needed to be done, but in typical SOE fashion they wielded a sledgehammer to kill a proverbial fly.
