I think the xbox 360 is around the same as a high end gaming rig right now but there is a diffrence in high end and top end. if you are playing a game using DX10 then its going to look better then a 360 but personally my 360 looks better then direct x 9.
The reason a xbox is around 500 bucks and a highend rig is 2500 is because microsoft does not try to make their profit on selling the consoles they make it selling the games it costs them a few dollors to put a game on a disk wrap it up and sell it but they sell them for around 60 bucks
a console is locked in hardware, you dont have a true OS, its path way is different
a PC is open hardware, you have an OS which can totally eat up resources, small things can suck up more resources.
512mb of ram on a console is not the same as 512 ram on a PC
and for the record of resolution.. 1080i is 1920x1080 resolution so saying the 360 or any high def console cant run near the resolution of a PC is total BS.
the 360 is not that loud, if yours is there is a major issue with it. I have one and it only slightly louder then the PS3 which is quiet, I dont even hear it running when gaming or movies. I do hear my WII, I do hear my PC fan
It's upscaled.
no, some games do upscale to 1080i (those that are 720p for example when the TV is only 1080i) but there are 1080i true games, and a couple 1080p true games, not upscaled. We are working with XNA and have done 1080i and 1080p direct, not upscaled at all.
A 360 is around the same as todays high end gaming rig.
Actually - not really even close. A 360 has a very small OS so it gains pwoer from its directed function. The graphics capabilty of a 360 is comparable to that of a DX10 upper end PC GPU but not comparable to the real top end DX10 card especially considering the dual card setups. 360s benefit form a locked architecture and limited resolution (720p would be considered rather small for a modern gaming computer but that is the highest you will need to generate on a 360. My 24" runs at 1920x1200 which is quite a bit more pixels than a 360s 720p (1280 x 766 if I recall). All in all a 360 is like a medium end gaming rig, not a high end ring and with each month that passes the gap widens again. By this time next year the gap between console games and PC games will be sizable again - even though consoles allways get utilized alot more than thier PC counterparts due to the locked architechture making it easier to get to its limits.

Load of rubbish, if anything my PC is louder than my 360... my 360 purrs without upsetting anything, hell my hamster running around the cage is louder than my 360.
Don't talk rot, unless you own one... please
playing C&C Tiberium Wars on my 360 just now, i prefer the PC version (kane edition) but the xbox 360 version is actually really well done, even if you use a controller. Plus it purrs along nicely and looks fantastic on a HDTV oooh yeah, xbox live just adds to the fun !
i do like my 360 connected to my PC though, works really well. The 360 is fine, it's not like the top range PCs even notice the difference yet.... right. If you have a PC rig just for games, how many games now do you think benefits you.
Blizzard got the right idea with MMOs, make them available to the majority who can play them hell broadband in the UK has finally just hit normal figures compared to 2 years ago.
Vanguard - for the top of the range gamer.... and by the way, look at the subs... it shows, even with the bug fixes i doubt it'll reach very many subscribers now
*grins* if you're going to talk rot... take it elsewhere ! wo0ot
Best gaming platform = the Wii, and come on that's just an upgraded gamecube :-p shows the top "elitest" gaming PC nerds, know nothing about making money and what games will actually do better and are more fun in the long run. buh bye
people who mention graphics before anything else, shouldn't even be gamers....
people who mention graphics before anything else, shouldn't even be gamers....
On this I can agree somewhat - games for the last couple years have been far too much about graphics and not enough about other advancements. but this is one are where the PC is really, really poised to redefine gaming. With DX10 allowing more graphics with less calculation games are going to start taking advantage of what to this poitn has been nothing but add ons, really good AI and physics. this is where consoles are going to have trouble keeping up. Fcrysis, PC only, will be setting to gaming world on fire with the jump in technologies in AI, physics, and graphics all combining to really break the mold of computer gaming.
It is an interesting time in gaming, alot like what Hollywood is going through where costs of production are so high that it is hard to take any chances at all - so they just keep repackaging the same thing over and over. A few titles are set to challenge that and, interestingly, Microsoft's new OS's success is depending on them. For vsita to take hold it is going to have to attract gamers and the performance/enthusiast types (as it stands now it is hardly attracting anyone). If DX10 can be shown to be what is promised it could be the turning point for Vista. Alot is going into Age of Conan and Crysis (amoung others) to really make an impact and justify DX10, and Vista. And success for DX10 means success for he 360 as programming for the 360 is similar to programming for DX10 - menaing Sony's hard to program for platform will be even more left in the lurch.
you people must be on crack, i have a xbox 360 with a hd tv. and i have never seen games so beautiful before. Gears of war is the best gfx i have seen on any game ever made hands down, the 360 n ps3 are not old top o the line pcs, you guys really should research more. On every sale of a ps3 or 360 the company is lossing hundreds of dollars, these are current state of the art machines that you get at a cheap price compared to what they are worth.
I was mind boggled for a minute on why 360 is so cheap with such high specs in it... then i subscribed to xbox live, and god damn...Microsoft $10's you to death with downloads, everything cost money, even free maps on a PC version of a game like CoD costs money to download on top of paying the monthly free, i wouldn't doubt when AoC comes out on 360, Micro$oft will charge for every single content patch which is otherwise free on PC.
GoW looks nice on the 360 (if you like that over done shader thing) but it is nothing high end PCs haven't done for some time. Not saying the 360 isn't a good gaming platform in terms of rendering capabilities as it is, but it doesn't touch the flexibility of a PC or to overall power of a PC. Console games are also VERY limited by the controller - not wanting to ignite a war over the controller but it is a know fact that console games are specifically engineered in playstyle to accommodate the otherwise klunky and inaccurate controllers (I.E. no mouse). So most console shooters end up being of the spray and pray auto aim variety which is very limiting especially given some of the great tactical games of late.
A 360 is around the same as todays high end gaming rig.
That sounds a little off... 360 = $300 and high end gaming rig = $3000
It is....360 its like the top PC's of nowadays......360's graphic card was available in the market february and the 3 CPUs of 3.2Ghz .......so.....its like the top PC of course.....
Xbox360 runs the games way better than any of the top PC....because its a console....so the games are very well adapted to it...so...it runs the games at max without breaks .....
Yes its 300$ because its not a PC...it's just for gaming....and the PCs are like 3000$ because they do more than playing................................................................................................................and the companies (sony and microsoft) were loosing money at the first month of their consoles releases because the hardware was so much ahead of its time that they were actually putting the price way down that what should be.....now they are not cuz the hardware is already "cheap".....
And for the OP....you dont need a PC = 360 to run age of conan lol....u can run it on max with lower specs....

There is allot wrong with what you said, for starters the 360s 3 processors are only moderately comparable to one average PC processor. Architecture matters - four Celerons do not equal one Conroe - it isn't about how many it is about the type, the architecture, the cache, the microcode, and allot more. A 360 is by any reasonable standard a well underpowered PC, but it has only one thing to do - gaming. And unlike PCs all the development is for one single hardware set so optimization in quite a bit easier as is testing and overall development. Not to mention that game developers are not exactly known for lack of laziness in terms of efficient code and what not.
Again, the 360 is a respectable platform but the comparisons to a PC are just stupid and anyone insisting on making them only shows they are not qualified to do so.

Did you notice they pulled new RS3 maps recently on marketplace, because it turns out they come included in the price of the PS3 version of the game.
Microsoft was going to again make us pay for content that is already free with other copies of the game
Whether they'll change that, who knows.. but it was bad timing !
