There enough fantasy mmo out there. We do not really need another one, especially a Movie IP.

Actually a Harry Potter MMO would have potential with a skill-based leveling system and such. The problem comes when the large company that buys the license to make the MMORPG tries to market the game to 8 year olds, because clearly that would be the best way to make money. Even if they don't market the game to 8 year olds, it will become overrun with them due to it being Harry Potter themed and then all the older people will leave because LEETZ00r pow pow pow zap kids are annoying and then the game will suck.

On second thought, the game would suck any way, but still.

It is not the IP that makes a game good.  Making a good game makes the game good.

I would play a Teletubbies MMO if the game was good, but it would have to be REALLY good.

Nah that would not be very fun at all maybe a MMO implementing some of the Harry Potter features. Games of Chess where the different players play their role and duke it out... or that hovering on a broom sports game but the game itself please god no. You know what else would not be a good idea... "Beam me up Scotty" oh wait arn't they actually making that game.... I presume harry potter could be next.

    Games Enjoyed: UO,EQ,AC,EQ2,COX,LOTRO
    Games Played(-Above):WoW,MXO,GW(beta),RFO,ArchLord,V:SOH,Rappelz,Ryzom,DDO
    Games I felt were a rip-off: DDO,ArchLord,V:SOH - all newer how ironic

A Harry Potter MMOG could possibly open up a largely untapped player base (book-hungry kids, aged 10-15). It's also an IP that would definitely get a lot of press, thus is has the potential to sell well. What player-base it would end up with (numbers and demographics) would depend on features and style.

Richard Garriot briefly worked on a Harry Potter MMO shortly before he left EA to start working on Tabula Rasa. Long story short, the story didn't translate well into functional game mechanics. If anything, it would be a collection of mini-games or puzzles with little or no resemblance to the books narrative style and setting. It was scrapped before it was even announced.

It would sell, but it would be bloody hard to make. Let alone make well.

lol.  I would play that, especially if it had a large character customization system.  it would just be a funny game to sit in a busy area and hear the chatter players make with a potter themed look.  Especially with the mmo community.

If it means less kids playing WoW, then I'm all for it.

I think the IP has potential. But it would have to be a big, well funded project. The world, the castle, the atmosphere, the material for an MMO is there.
