You can do all those things, and not just in AoC, but with every game!

All you need is a laptop, a satelite link-up, and a friend to drop you off in the forest.

    Enjoy!!

There is nothing stopping you from finding some forest somewhere and grinding until your inventory is full. This is essentially what you are looking forconsidering there are no food requirements to sustaining yourself. You can do this in prety much every MMO in existence.

This is purely assumption, but I believe the OP was referring to a game experience similar to that of SWG back when rangers were useful in setting up camps, which served as a resting spot for your party to rest as they basically roamed the wilderness for extended periods of time. I for one, miss that sort of thing terribly, however, I haven't read anything in AoC that would suggest a mechanic that would emulate such an experience. There is neither the ability to set up camp,  and I'm not sure how large the zones are relative to a game like SWG.  The FAQ said a few kilometers, but I still find it hard to visualize in an ingame scale.  Still, you never know. Here's hoping.

  • Man I do not understand people who want stuff like this.  The main MUD I used to play in the 90's forced you to eat or you slowly lost hp and  died.  Even worse if you were hasted you got hungry twice as fast and if you were  a large race like Minotaur you had to eat a ton of food.  Going to the bar and typing out "buy glass of water" then "drink glass of water" twenty times was not fun, it was boring and a pain in the ass and interfered with your other activities.

The answer is pretty simple. You might play simply for achievement, but a lot of people (myself included) prefer a to have some sort of social aspect in their MMOGs. I know I probably don't speak for Cajun, who seems to infer a more solitary experience, but the experience I was referring to allowed for a break between fights where you basically shot the breeze while people recovered from wounds. It was probably the best time I had in that game for that reason. It combined a sense of community with one of achievement, where you could tough it out in the wilderness as a group effort. Great friends were made, great xp and fun was had by all. Here's hopin for that sort of thing in Conan.

There's no mention of a feature to build camps or anything else in the game world. In fact, the building that does go on takes place in instanced areas that have limitations of their own.

You can read all about this on the FAQ part of the AoC website.

:) Good memories. I love all those little details that are immersing. Those are fun memories, stopping combat to take a rest by the campfire.

While eating/drinking requirements in excess are no fun, I don't think that's what he's suggesting. Games where people regenerate back to full health/mana in 30 seconds are no fun either. Even if it's only every few minutes, it's good to have SOME downtime, just to break up the monotony and make things interesting.

In World of Warcraft if you take the skinning profession you can skin beasts and sell them or use them to mmake stuff with leatherworking profession. If you pick hunter class they have a pet that you have to feed meat too regularly or they will do less damage and run off eventually. Also, you can make campfires and use them to cook food that you can make with the meat you have along with ingrediants you can buy in town.

Yeahh, but see, anyone on this forum is probably done with WoW, or never had any interest to begin with. Besides, WoW doesnt facilitate "living off the land" at all, what with rest xp and how easy it is to get to a major city.
