Pffft.....I tried to cancel a Sony game once.  When I hit the <CANCEL> (which was invisible I might add) a fricken bolt of lightning shot out of my monitor.  Good thing I was.........sitting on the floor........and it just missed me.  I tracked it 3 blocks, through walls.....trees......cars.  When I tried to blame Sony......these guys in black suits showed up and started to harass me......dammit.....I gotta go, their back......

Here's your "shenanigans" directly from my bank statement:

SOE has been known to fuck up their billing in the past, and they just did it with me. If you don't want to admit there might just be some truth to the substance of this thread, that's your own damned problem, not mine.

Additionally, CALL THEM and just say that you canceled your account, but it still shows up as not-canceled on the website and ask them.

The rep, on the phone, will tell you: "Ah, yeah. Happens all the time." or similar. This is a known Sony issue.

I canceled and renewed my SOE accounts lots of times over the years and only had a problem with Vanguard.

But they do know about it and it is an issue. How common it is, I dunno.

I've never had a problem with cancelled accounts being billed since I started EQ in 1999 and have played various SOE games on and off over the years. I have, however, heard of this happening. Instead of having a major malfunction, phone the reps as suggested and get it straightened out.

    grrrr though... for you

I would keep tabs on it.

I checked at SOE's site, and they still had my boyfriend's account listed as active, even though he went through and cancelled it back in March, so I've basically been paying for an account that neither of us even realized was still active since then. I hit the cancellation button for his account again, so hopefully, I won't see another charge next month.

I'm annoyed. Here's a game we weren't playing, and that neither of us even had installed on our computers, yet I was still being charged for it. Bleah.

    Use gamecards instead.

This may have been a genuine mistake best to contact them and ask about it...

Same here... been with SOE since EQ beta.  Never had any problems.

Indeed it's a fair mistake or someone using your CC.

SOE might have done bad things to games, but never have I heard them do anything wrong towards the players. Poor poor games...

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

Unfortunately, I can't call them until Monday to straighten anything out. image

I cancelled on the website, and have called my bank to dispute the charge, explaining why. The only thing left is to talk to someone from SOE, which I won't be able to do for two more days. Feh.

Okay since the occurance of the incident I called them and they said they cancelled my account which wasn't even showing me I had an active subscrition but appearantly on their pc's it showed it active. They also stated they would not refund...... but next month I will not charge again. So SOE for the first time ever kind of pissed me off. I'll just dispute it at the bank and they can suck it up because i'm not going to just let them take my money and say theres nothing they can do about it. I must say though THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS of using SOE that this happend I just find it shady that they cant refund when they can see I have no logged in, in how ever many months ... and yet they never charged me any month from release to now until this month...... it's really dumb.

I find it hard to believe they won't refund you for their mistake, issues like this have happened randomly with any and all billing systems including SOE's.  I'd of immediately asked to talk to their superior or the superior's superior to get that money back and if they still wouldn't remove it I'd fight it through other means.  Fight it all the way through your credit card or banking system.  They can't just randomly take your money then refuse to give it back, they can how ever still bill you at the beginning of the month if you cancel at the start of the new cycle for your account or the day after (has had that happen).

Unless of course your miss stating when you cancelled your account, which no offense alot of people do in order to assert they're right and such and such company is evil (falsly accusing a company of theft is way more damning to your creditability then theirs).   If you cancelled the account months ago and it randomly showed up its definitly their fault but if you just recently cancelled its possible your cancel date fell after their billing process for the next month began (though im more inclinded to believe they just F'd up in the billing department, human interaction always causes chaos at some point).

I'd say keep fighting it and go to someone higher up.

I've been lucky I've been using SOE off and on for years and i've never had this issue, but it happens sometimes.  A glitch in the computers, human error, or just some random update on the billing program causing chaos for no apparent reason.   I have had this happen with OTHER billing systems before and usually my credit card provider was more than willing to duke it out and get my money back.

When I quit EQII I had my credit card issuer change the account number so SOE could not post a charge to it.

This kind of issue doesn't happen with gametime cards.  You just end up fing yourself over if you can't find a new card before the end of the time limit.

Kind of insulting. I'm a 24 year old professional and do not need to LIE about when I opened and closed an account. Yes it is odd that they would not issue a refund when I spoke with them Friday. I bought the game upon release and did not enjoy it so I cancled it. Anywho blah blah situation sucks i'll get my money back by disputing it through the bank the only other customer services that sucked like that are Time Warner and Sprint ....

I don't buy anything in the thread...

I played MMOs from most of the studios, and never had problems.  Turbine, Blizzard, SOE, NCSoft.... They never made a mistake.

It all depends on when you subscribe and when you cancel and when the compagny is rebilling you.  Make sure you are aware of all of this and you won't have any surprize.

Honestly, this rant is the oldest in the MMO world.... When people don't like a game, they mention billing error and all haters jump on the band wagon with obscure stories.

This is why I love my card company, I can use virtual credit card numbers so that I have the real power to cancel.

You're right. I should have known that SOE would probably not cancel that account, even if the cancellation button was hit on their website, because that's how it works for any other company.

LOL! Obscure? I posted a screencap of my bank statement showing the charge for an account that was supposed to have been cancelled months ago. That's not obscure. It's blatant proof that they made a billing error.

I know it's fashionable for fans of Vanguard to want to deny anything that might even be remotely negative about the game, or about SOE, but come on. You're just stretching your credibility here.

Care to exaplain this, did you sign up with a 10 day key and get a subscription?

You didn't notice that for three months you was billed with 15.98 (which is 14.99 + .99, one out of four extra features on their site) As you showed it is quite clear that SOE draws money from the account nothing hidden in the text, example, some banktransfer is just made up with numbers, here it says SOE.  This you just happens to discover the 30th and the billing date was 29th. Together with a thread popping up around this date.

There is reasons to question what you (and others) said, it would be ignorant if one didn't. For myself I usually don't go with coincidence like this. But one have to trust you in it but there is a reason to question it.

With a reason of doubt, did you do it right? Already back then I think you had to type in the answer to the secret question. Which has been 'discussed' a couple of times by now. And they do send a confirmation on that it was canceled.

Yeh, and it is fashionable to reach deep into the pockets and find excuses to yet another thing to bash upon SOE. Same goes there for  "it's fashionable for fans of whatever game you would like".

    Equal opportunites.

Contrary to the SOE never does anything wrong crowd the billing process has had mistakes in the past & apparently still does from time to time.  Like someone mentioned earlier it's perhaps easiest & best to confirm by telephoning the problem.  Years ago when i  played EQ a similar billing mistake happened which eventually SOE corrected.  A bit of a hassle & at first since they stated they wouldn't change it, but we as customers have to keep our logic, patience & be determined not to get rolled-over.  Also, contacting the Better Business Bureau of San Diego where the SOE was located with all the pertinent information helped too.  Probably with Vanguard issues there might still be some transitional mistakes being made.  Being incorrectly billed is wrong, but it's correctable.  Hope it gets worked-out for those it happened too.  i doubt SOE did it intentionally though.

  • CymdaiCymdai Member UncommonPosts: 1,043

    It's probably just a mistake.

When you uninstalled the game, did you remove your credit card information from their database? Doing so essentially erases all your confidential information with the company, so if there's ever a "fluke" in the system, you won't even be in the system to be susceptible to a mistake.

Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

I haven't read any of the threads of people with Turbine issues. However, that doesn't mean their issues don't exist. I'm willing to give them credence because I don't have a reason not to believe them.

Yes, he did it right. And yes, he got the confirmation e-mail. It's what I'm going to be using as proof of their error when I call SOE tomorrow.

Care to exaplain this, did you sign up with a 10 day key and get a subscription?

He signed up for a subscription and cancelled before the end of his free month. I used a 10-day buddy key from his Collector's Edition to play a trial.

The issue at hand is his subscription. He cancelled it months ago. I have the e-mail from SOE. Yet I'm still getting billed for it.

There's not much I can do about the previous months, but at least for June, I can try and get some money back, or a credit to my account, and have my information removed from their records.

No, I didn't see it before. Why? Because I had no reason to look for it. I had confirmation that the account was cancelled, so I assumed that was the case. When I saw this thread, I was curious, and checked my own account. I didn't think I would find anything at all, but I did.

This you just happens to discover the 30th and the billing date was 29th. Together with a thread popping up around this date.

If you're trying to imply that I purposely let SOE bill me so I could have something for this thread, or that there's some sort of conspiracy at work, you're a fool.

I have the cancellation e-mail. That was enough proof for me that there was no account. I was proven wrong, and found out because of this thread. Deal with it.
