I just wanted to state that these MMO's that are "free" is a format that I most likely will never play again after trying a few.
The type I refer to is the MMO's that are free to download and free to play, but offer shortcuts (Items,gold,exp) for cash in game.
This means you grind like hell, or pay. Looses much of any RP aspect.
Feels like your trying to turn your users into crackheads.
These games feel like a scam to me. I will never get into a game on this format. It's another BAD idea by big buisness
Game designers...Stop listening to this big Corporate ring around the gaming industry and start making real innovating MMO's.
I am willing to pay monthly. Or like Guild Wars.
Stop trying to scam us with these market generated corporate games you play with us.

Nobody is forcing u to play or even trow a glance towards such games, so i dont really see what your problem is with them.
And its true the mmo market has been quite empty for a long while now, but some promising titles are comming up soon, so i wouldnt lose your hope just yet !
Altho it will be very hard for any future game to crush the curse of the never ending "bored' circle that has struck the mmo market....but it doesnt look bad at all.....for now.
Or you could just play the game, for free, at your own speed, without paying attention to the powerlevelers who show us their lack of real-life by trying to win the leveling race...

If anything, it's you people who have no "life" by coming onto forums and complaining in the first place. If you had taken your own advice to begin with and just ignored them you wouldn't have hate towards them.

The downloadable (not store boxed) game client is the future of online games. The benefit of the free download is that small developers do not have to sell out to publishers/distributors like EA and SOE. Even though the end user pays less money, the money is not split 4 different ways. All of the money goes directly to to people offering the game for download. It is a win win situation for gamers and dev teams. The gamer pays less money and dev gets more money.
If you like supporting money grubbing publishers like SOE and EA continue buying boxed games from stores. If you like supporting independant dev teams or smaller publishers/distributors then use the cash shop in the free to download games.
Sure there are a lot of low budget f2p games. But thee are also some good ones and some AAA quality titles using this distribution method in the future.
I will do anything I can do to pay the dev teams instead of money grubbing publishers/distributors like SOE.
It drives me nuts when I am playing warcraft, and I'm trying to RP, and people whisper me saying that they can give me 10 gold if i give them my credit card number...

I dont think there trying to scam you in any way! You make the choice whether to accept their terms and conditions..you make the choice whether to buy certain items or gold..so its basically you who is doing the scamming. As a mmorpg developer myself I do not think that you fully understand what were trying to do. All we want is to give you guys a free game to play that we work very hard on. Yes we offer *members for people who want to use the other features we offer but its not like were twisting thier arm and making them pay the fee. So I think that "free to play"games are actually helping the world of gaming. __oldknight
I agree with you 100%. It's mostly crappy Korean games that use the item shop model and once you've tried one, you have tried them all. There are some western models which employ similar design like Roma Victor, which by almost all accounts is a horrible game.
