Your top 5 pvp oriented mmos

started playing lotr online...no pvp makes me very bored even though I guess the game isn't that bad.....just boring for me personally.  so what pvp oriented games are you people playing?  by pvp oriented i guess I mean body looting, open pvp(none of the flagging/pvp zone stuff) perhaps getting xp from your victories etc.

doesn't even have to be a well-known or super-hyped game as i've probably played it and got bored of it.

EvE-O and Lineage 2. Both good games imo but not everyones cup of tea. On the bright side each one should have a free trial so you can see for yourself if its your thing or not.

i wouldn't consider warhammer a true pvp game i'm sure you will always keep your loot and it probably won't matter...i mean Really matter if you just run out there and someone kills you.  i'm sure the loot system will be ya similar to wow's although i'm not trying to call it a wow clone...i just really don't enjoy games where you can't get the best stuff without going through a 100 player guild etc etc.  maybe warhammer is different than what it hink though? if so maybe i'll try it

and i played eve online a while but I will be honest and say I am not patient enough for that game.  i gotta admit that.  plus just the thought of how far people are ahead of me by now just kinda makes me sad :)

i used to love playing Shadowbane but it was buggy, even after the free release (9 times out of 10, an enemy would warp from in front to behind me and vice-versa a few times before staying still in combat...which got really annoying considering my char would often turn around and miss anyways...) i'm thinking about Regnum but i haven't heard enough atm...also waitin for AoC...hmm...if Cardinal Saga (the game that Carpe Diem was supposed to be an english version of) has PvP than that'll be one...but i doubt it...dam that's gonna be a hard game to play once i get it downloaded...it's fully Japanese...also playing EQ1 and UO if they count

    1.  Asheron's Call 1 Darktide server

    2.  Dark Age of Camelot (different from AC1 but really enjoyed the RVR)

    3.  Ultima Online (way back when it first game out)

    4.  Guild Wars

    5.  WoW when it first came out.  Going to Booty bay and bugging out the guards and then killing people was a ton of fun.

I don't like Level based games that have full loot (IE Lineage 2).  I think they are pretty dumb personally since their is no skill involved.   I can't really comment on EVE since I found the game so boring I never made it to the PVP.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

    1. Ultima Online pre trammel and pre stats loss. Best hands down. Skill based open pvp system were all items were lootable. Kept the economy good, and made equipment less of a focus as per skill.

    2. Asheron's Call

Skill based... but not as good as UO. However has the benefit of being able to take on multiple opponents if you play your character well.

    3 Dark Age of Camelot

Best incentive to continue to pvp

    4 EvE Online

Skill based, open pvp, similar to UO... however costs are much higher for pvp.

    5 Guild wars.

As someone put it before, this is indeed the "Dark Age for PvP'rs". Of course its arguable, but in the diection of how alot of games went with the PvP, I can agree.

My best PvP expiereince hands down was Asheron's Call Darktide. The game is now outdated and has pretty much people with max levels running around. Dont get me wrong, I love PvP and Darktide was the best, most brutal most awsome gaming experience Ive ever had (ask anyone) but now its lost its touch due to everyone being maxed out. Youd have to find the right alliegiences and the right people and that would take alot of work. DT indeed has player loot, but again many ppl are maxed so it doesnt really make a difference anymore. But DT was the bomb, it was the best...it had no classes 100% skill based which was even better.

DAOC has great RvR, doesnt have the looting like AC has not as nearly the excitement, but it is a solid game and in my opinion is the best balanced MMO out on the market today.

Shadowbane is Free to play, has open PvP and you drop coins when you die so there is looting. You need to get yourself into a good guild to really enjoy the game to P level you.

I havent played EVE but from what Ive seen and heard its a great game, but you need to put in lots of time and dedication to it and its not for everyone. I hear it takes lots of time to get to place to place, and it is very complex.

    Fake PvP -

WoW - do I really need to explain this? WoW is lame in general, stay away from it. The "PvP" there actually put me to sleep, once.

So thats it. I would say either DAOC or SB is your best bet, even DAOC doesnt have looting so the PvP there can get dull. Sieges are awsome though. This is truly the Dark Age for real pvping, youre gonna have to wait. Our biggest hope that I'm excited for is Age of Conan, that game is looking great. Has that old school brutal PvP feel to it. Just in case you were wondering if there was somethng out there for you ;)

Warhammer is basically going to be WoW with DAOC's juiced up RvR so its looking good as well, though I am sick of the WoW mentality in general and will probably hurl if it has the exact same interface.

Isn't it great how he asks for the top 5 PVP games and you guys list games that are basically dead/dying or have no PVP communities at all.

LOL at #5, oh gods yes, that was extreamly fun, especially when you were balancing on that beam near the tavern, as a hunter, firing arrows down on the helpless. Or in Gadgetzen on one of the roofs hahaha sending in thy pet and watching them run around couple of shots then feign, was real fun UNTIL they made guards immune, nerfed feign, nerfed elven shadowmeld, then you were fuxored.

Game got pretty boring after that and i left just before the last major patch update before the expansion was released (october'ish) last year. Havent been back since (though lately i have been pondering it) especially since Vanguard was a complete failure for a game.

the golden age of Ultima Online is still the most fun I've ever had pvping in game. DAoC was great and RvR was new and intersting. WoW pre-bg was fun (i liked honor when it meant something), but i think thats also because no one had any raid gear. Looking forward to WAR since mythics RvR will be the backbone of the game. Also looking forward to AoC to try pvp with a new mmo-combat-system; maybe it will even bring the skill factor back into the genre that UO did so well (i know, non level vs level.....)

    so ya..

    1. Ultima Online
    2. DAoC
    3. WoW world PvP a few months after release

    ^ I didn't read any of that

EQ1 was the best PvP I have ever played..Rallos Zek server. Things got intense and PvP in that game really got my blood pumping. With every ice comet I dropped I would release a cheer and every Envenomed bolt that sapped my life I could truely feel the poison coursing through my veins.

shadowbane was a blast too for a couple weeks. other than that I really only pvp'd in world of warcraft and eq2, both are mediocre.

Not really in a particular order, since each of these games have a different feel for PvP so depending on the person one may be more liked than another...

    • Planetside (FPS RvR)
    • Guild Wars (COOP STRATEGY)
    • Pirates of the Burning Sea (RPG RvR)
    • EVE (RPG HARDCORE)
    • Dark Age of Camelot (RPG RvR)

I was tempted to include SWG pre-CU, because I had some fun times PvPing on there...  That wasnt really because SWG pre-CU was good for PvP, just because it was generally fun and we managed to have fun during PvP thanks to other not directly related game elements.

I havent played DAoC personally (well I tried but the graphics and UI were too outdated for me) but I've read too many good things not to put it on the list.

    1) Ultima Online (before they made any expansions)

    2) Rakion (though there's hacks and bugs, once you get used to it you can beat anyone)

    3) Everquest (before any expansions - I played a ranger and could beat almost every class)
