Wow, that was quick. How long has this MMO been around? A year?

Expect online petitions and having people in a year say "Remember Auto Assault? What a great game, they shouldn't have shut it down."

Wow big news. I knew AA had low numbers and that hasn't changed since launch, but I expected the game to hang on for a couple more years. Well, I guess we can add AA to the likes of Earth and Beyond. Farewell.

Woah, didn't see that coming :/ i really wanted to like AA, but it just didn't feel right when i played it. It's always sad to see a mmo go down imo.

an example (like swg) that you can't make huge changes and force your customers to relearn the game every two months instead of adding content. we warned them again and again.....

It launch back in April 2006, i knew it was coming but not that fast.   I played the game when it lauched but got bored real, real quick with it.  Biggest complaint was the fact that we could'nt get out of the car.  Try to do some social or roleplay as a car...

  • Good Riddance. That game was aweful from the get go. Very poorly made imo.

I'd say 90% of the online gaming world seen this coming.

And yes, I pulled that figure out of my ass, but I'm betting it's fairly accurate.

This game can hardly call itself mmorpg well hope they can learn their lesson

Auto Assault deserves to be canceled. It played more like the arcade game "Spy Hunter" than as an MMO.

Its ending demonstrates that poorly conceived MMO game concepts can die quick deaths and won't necessarily languish in the gaming backwaters for years with low populations.

Its cancellation may even contribute to a redefinition of failure in the MMO market along with Dark and Light.

That was so random. Though there may not be many, I'm sure the players are going to be very p'd off! Imagine having your MMO suddenly cancel

Earth and Beyond, Asheron's Call 2. And both better games.

What I want to know is why close it? Reduce the sub price, offer for free with ads, or at least offer the server code to the fan base so they can make their own server.  Just letting a game die like that is wrong.

I personally like this MMO, only reason why I did not play was because my computer could not handle it.

Damn, I had this game on my desk--and I was about to sell it on Ebay.

ROFL i knew this game would die (was in the beta) though i have to admit i expected them to last a little bit longer then this....hahaha

Wow i knew the game was gonna get shut down. This game was pretty different and doesn't deserve to get shut down IMHO. But then again i'm not NCSoft.

    R.I.P. Auto Assault

Sheesh, you lot are a bunch of jerks.  Real knee-biters.  Not an MMO?  What's the definition of an MMO then, if this game doesn't meet the spec?  Elves?  Spells?  Everything any other MMO you can think of had (save FPS combat, you effite game snobs), AA had.  It was raw as hell and obviously pushed out the door far, far too early, but not an MMO?  Give it a rest already.  At least come back and post a flame that has a basis in fact.

Like the folks who say it was boring way too quickly (it was, not enough to do), or the other folks who say it wasn't their thing (it was not your plain Jane mmo, that's for sure), or the folks who complained about not being able to get out of your car in the wild.  These are valid complaints and likely all a big part of why it didn't attract users.  Claiming it's not an MMO is just f'n ignorant, and isn't doing your image any favor.

The game's already dead, it's not going to hurt your precious WoW; you can stop knocking it with baseless complaints.  Really.  Get over yourselves.

    mature much....

There were people playing and enjoying this game, granted not alot but they were paying for it  Now, after august 31, they will never be able to play it again.  Considering the great community of players on AA it's a shame that NC would do this to them.

  • EstrusEstrus Member Posts: 357

I've had the box for awhile now, never got around to installing it.

Installing it now and going to play while I can heh.

  • boingedboinged Member UncommonPosts: 161

This sucks, another original MMO bites the dust. Ultimately not enough to keep players interested but I'll concentrate on the good times instead...

It was a blast for the 12 months I played it. Driving round destroying everything, farming mats for crafting has never been so fun. Splattering pedestrians off your bumper and doing insane jumps. The endgame PVP was fast-paced and the tide could turn at any moment. Racing round flipping outposts, then screaming back to them when someone else tried to hack. Farming bosses for better weapons to kill the other player races faster or grinding the epics (didn't get so far in that one hehe). Top it all off with a close community and this is a real shame.

Well, i remember some guy being surprised on general chat in the game that AA had more subscribers than EVE - which he was playing regurarly (was on trial in AA). He didn't like the game - thats why he was surprised that so many people play it.

Now i don't really know if what he was saying was true, but i guess there are some figures out there that say that. So my question is how can EVE still be around after all this time?
