The handmade animations look bad. Look at the dogs/wolfs, blargh. I don't think it was a good idea to use a so characteristic walk for the motion captured stuff. Dragging the right foot a little behind etc. When every single humanoid does that it really doesn't look good.
But besides that, and the trees, it's really looking good. Looking forward to this. Let's hope they show us some footage of the 80% they haven't shown yet, soon.

Theres always a cynic in the bunch ah? The animations in the game are some of the best motion capture in the industry, and FAR out strip anything else currently out or on the horizon.
I didn't say the motion captured stuff looked bad. I said that the handmade stuff was bad. And you can't honestly say that the walk and laying down of those dogs/wolfs looked good.
The mocap stuff is good. But it isn't the best. High class titles like Crysis beat AoC by miles.
I don't think I'm a cynic. I do pay alot of attention to the art in games, because that part really, really interests me. And I have been dealing with cg/game art for 6-7 years now. Plus art has a very central part of my education.
If a game has upsetting parts (to me) in the art, it can break the entire experience for me and I won't touch that game again. It has to have some insanely good gameplay if it has "crappy" art.
As far as I know only the humanoids and horses are motion captured in AoC. The rest is done by hand. Motion capture is something that is rather expensive to do, so developers only use it where it is needed and possibly to do. Mostly humans and some trained animals, dogs/horses work out, but more than that get's very hard.
The dogs are bad, and it's bad handwork. I think those where npc patrols, with dogs. Or just some critters following the guards around. I don't think it's a indication for pet's or no pet's.
Yeah I noticed the animation issues as well. However that is something that is fairly easy to fix. I have come to find that sloppy animation is a huge pet peeve for me, just breaks the immersion.
As with everything else in AoC, this video is superb. Fantastic music, second to none art-direction and world building. Funcom appears to have a huge hit on their hands. Gods know they put in the effort, and have perhaps the best talent in the industry.

The best looking graphical MMO to be released in the future
I pee'd alot. This video finally broke the camel's back, it just looks too freaking awesome not to try it out
Now lets just hope that PvP doesn't suck complete ass.
