Hero or Villain for PvP?

bleyzwunbleyzwun Member UncommonPosts: 1,087

I've tried CoH for a few levels about a year and a half ago, but never really got into it.  I'm about to try the free trial they have on this site.  I want to know which side I should choose for the best PvP action.  I dont see a download for CoV just CoH... So if I enjoy it I'll buy the good and evil pack.  I just don't want to do the same thing I did on WoW and roll alliance (no friends playing CoX to make me join sides).  I don't know if this game is that good for PvP, but thats mainly what I'll be playing for.  Any help will be appreciated.

Honestly there isn't a "super strong" PvP Side.

The largest difference between the characters are mainly just the soloing capability. Since City of Villains was introduced later it was produced with characters that could solo better, characters like the Brute and Mastermind don't even really need groups to solo extremely well.

City of Heroes was more built around group play, although both have the capability.

As regarding to PvP though, I'd suggest just playing whatever character you enjoy..to me that is the only way you'll ever truly enjoy the game.

CoH/CoV doesn't focus on PvP, and there don't seem to be large numbers participating in that part of the game.

If you want to give it a try, check the official PvP forums out. The Hero builds seem to be better for PvP than the Villains.

roll a hero they are much better designed overall. villains are much weaker no thanks to the shitty villain epics. I dont care what anyone says- Ive seen it upclose to many times. every tanker/scrapper can get focused accuracy which owns anything brutes can get via the weak ass patrons. The devs gave pvpers the middle finger

play this game for fun, casual PVE friend. stalkers are good tho in the zones. villains are good in certain sitatuions but are one trick ponies

try it for yourself man I wish u well. checkout the vids on youtube and ask quests. ppl seem to like CoV side tho regardless for the PVE content i guess. its a tough call man villains do phenenomal until a pro-hero sG sweeps the zones. which is rare luckily depending on the server u on. you can have fun regardless tho i enjoyed playing my gimpster brute anyway but jsut got tired of getting screwed by the devs every issue

look at issue 10 nothing for pvpers. i dont blame them i jsut anwsered with my wallet and bounced. makes a better community i guess we all ppl have similar mindset anyway. many CoX fans dont like pvpers

edit- on the other hand I did love my webnades on my brute i cant lie. jsut try it for yourself bro but jsut realize this mostly a PVE game so plz play ti for that mainly. but maybe you can find some good Arena action. i dont wanna discourage newbies from such a good title ahve fun bro

  • Hero side is slightly better, but have to worry about stalkers.

Basically some of the epic things (focused Accuracy) make it easier for heroes and smart defender builds can be a rather nasty thing.  But it really doesn't matter that much.

Its probably more important to pay attention to archetype.  For example Brute's and the fury mechanics can be tricky in PvP versus a scrapper with the crit inherent and Focused Accuracy.

Dominators versus Controller is a whole other kettle of fish and is far more equal.  Not that Dominators are a powerhouse, but domination itself can do things no controller can, but controllers have other nice parts.

    etc

I just realized i walked myself into a trap.

This is the deal- I loved my webnades it was great for webbing nooblets. But ppl that know what they're doing will have more than one travel power. Thus, usually a vet will have superspeed and just run til the nades wear off. edit- sure if you're Energy Melee you can stun if it's a squishy but a smart one will prepop a Break Free when they see those big giant pink poms poms I know i do on my squishies and I was always buffed against stuns and mez

plus webnades didnt help me at all in PVE nothing did. nothing they gave us Brutes helps in PVE WTF I dont get this game.

yet hero epics help them all over man. They made heroes generic and they freakin get more and more powerful the more they group. for instance, rad defenders can debuff the hell outta villains causing all their teammates to get +40 unresisted dmg bonus, etc

PVP is jacked up but i still say try it if you got time. if u already like PVE u got nothijng too lose. I want to see more games grab some ideas from CoX but jsut do them right. so i still tell newbies to play this game. jsut take my posts as a polite warning the had no good understanding of PVP. someone was on crack when they did it.

good game overall man. that what im trying to say. PVP is just buggy cause they didnt really design for it. but yet somethings about it is reallly good. jsut broken. and they keep taking away the test serrver I beleive to test new issues which is kinda shitty did they give PVPers a new test server at least? I stopped following this MMO
