Gods and Heroes: Exploring Cultures

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

As you probably already know, Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising is based on our own history. As a means of getting players familiar with the various factions involved, the folks at Perpetual have been kind enough to provide us with these brief cultural descriptions.

Two of the key differences between Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising and many of the other MMO games on the market is the significant percentage of enemies the player encounters that are human and the fact that they are historically based. Rome and the 'Romans' (originally the Latin tribes, but eventually a melting pot of cultures that had been conquered and incorporated), were constantly surrounded by other cultures and tribes that they regularly clashed with for control of the Italian peninsula. They were all influenced by each other and took from the dominant Hellenistic cultural styles, but had key differences. Differentiating these human enemies within the game required creating a style and visual vocabulary for each of the cultures. The key cultures took their visual elements from aspects of their historical nature and design styles:

    ^ This isn't gametrailers...

I was a tad disappointed with the initial list but the game has great room to expand.  At least they plan to include the Samnites <3 but I was hoping they would include the Sibusates too.  There were many interesting tribes around Italy during the timespan.  One of the blahest to me were the Etruscans, good luck on making them enthralling.

What I want to know, do you choose what tribe you came from when playing or are they simply showing what to expect ingame?

My only disappointment about the game is that there's no unique classes. Scout, priest, nomad, mystic, soldier and gladiator. The same classes as in every fantasy MMO. I'd finally want to see something new. It's ok if there's some of the old classes, but at least some new.

True that the classes are pretty much the same as in the MMO"s of today. For me it's the time frame in which this MMO takes place that makes it shine. What are your suggestions of a new class?

Do I want to raid?  No.  This hasn't change in years, in fact, it worser as more MMOs cater to raiders then anything else.

Do I want to raid with pets following me and every other players?  No thanks, but devs, are you stoned?

Mayhaps if they implement them differently?  Though, a scout is a scout no matter what, but I feel its one of those (have to have) classes, Maybe hybrids?

The classes do fit the theme, having a set .. uh genre doesn't give much room for the poetic license.

     Anofalye... was that a mis-post?

The classes aren't that new or innovative, but I think minions will give it a different spin and hopefully blur the lines between them so that there isn't a set group make-up.

      I'll second that.

So what you can hire minions? I did that years ago in Diablo and recently in Ferentus Online...

they aren't like those minions with very little AI, think of them more like.. extra armor. there are approx 121 different minions in the game currently, some you have to quest to get, others you can hire and yet others are rare drops.

they are customaisable, and act like another person in your party, not like the D2 version that used to get itself killed every 2 secs.

Supposedly as was said there are a whole long list of possible minions with pre-set actions. If you are a tank, get a healer and archer minion and set one to heal you at X% and the archer to auto-fire at will. Not that I am comparing G&H in general to Sword of the New World (which last roughly 56 minutes on my computer) but it's the same concept, or so it sounds.

    Sounds fascinating.

But - not on station pass. I will not be able to buy it.  I would have loved to buy this, though.

I hope it gets on the station pass.

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.
