    Any that you'd suggest?

I suggest Ultima Online. That is a very fun game, but you have to get really into it. It might consume your life. I also suggest Everquest, also a very addictive game. If you want to stay away from addiction, try Shadowbane and Lineage II. Those are a few fun games. You might want to try the free trials before you go and buy the game. Good luck on your search.

((Currently City Of Heroes is ranked number 1 on the game list at mmorpg.com.))

Your best bet is to wait for the next generation.  The two biggest titles .. World of Warcraft (because of blizzard), and EverQuest2 (because of its popularity and community) have both stated a before-the-end-of-the-year release.  If i was you i wouldnt waste your time/money on old games with there playerbase already established.

If your still looking to play MMOG and you cant wait that long i would try trial versions of ones.. those should hold you over (EQ is coming out with a month free, free D/L, with first 5 expansions set to be on the homepage by July 1st),  A Tale in the Desert is a fun one where you dont buy the retail version/download it, and you get 24 ingame hours to see if you like it.  I know Asherons Call 2 has a 15 day trial version.  Plus many other big game titles all have trial versions.

And if you end up really liking one, no harm in purchasing/signing up for monthly pay, because its what you were going to do in the first place, and this way its not a gamble on if you will like it or not.

    Hope this helped.

No EQ2 is not worth the wait.

It will be just like EQ. Why the hell would anyone wanna go through the same stuff all over again?

EQ2 is all about PvE recook with voice over.

In my opinion not worth the try.

I would rather wait for Lineage 2: chronicle 2-3 than EQ recook.

Actually, EQ2 will be almost nothing like EQ. EQ is a massive raid game anymore while EQ2 will concentrate more on group encounters. EQ generally takes massive bites out of your time in order to get anything done, EQ2 will take much smaller chunks of time to get things done. EQ is a power gamer's paradise, EQ2 will be a much more casual game. EQ2 is going after a completely different audience than EQ.

ohmygawd tell me this did not become another EQ or WoW thread.

To the original poster:  I would suggest you visit the Released Games on the left side of this webpage...many of them offere 7 day or 14 day trials.

I would suggest maybe StarWars Galaxies, simply because its one of the few that actually doesn't require you to put in a credit card number first before you start your free trial, and its 2 weeks long.

DaoC offers a 7 day trail and so does Anarchy Online.  But I believe they require a credit card number first before playing.

If you like SCI-FI I would suggest the following:

StarWars Galaxies (despite what people say, the game has improved a great deal since last year)

Anarchy Online (if you can get past the older style graphics this game rocks. It was my first mmorpg and is a good game...however I think the Shadowsland expansion sorta killed it , but that's my opinion only.  Its still worth a look at). Also, AO has an increadible story board as well as movies (not in game movies. but like Pixar style movies to go with the game...so thats interesting)

EVE online:  This is a true diehard Player Vs Player Space combat mmorpg.  While there aren't any "human" characters you control, they have a wide assortment of ships to choose from when your skill and money permits.  This game is unique because it offers real time Skill learning (which means if it take 4 hours to learn it really takes 4 hours...if it takes 3 days to learn it really takes 3 days).  Plus, this game is so big that if you were to fly your ship from one end of a system to the other and do that for every system EVE has out (without using warp drives), it would take 88 real years to complete.

Neocron: never played it so I cant really offer any adviced

    Fantasy

Dark Age of Camelot: If you can get past the old style graphics this game can be really fun. Good combat and castle seiges.  Fairly old mmorpg.

Final Fantasy XI:  This game was ok until lvl 16.  Good graphics, superb quest systems, however it lacks monster diveristy (meaning you have one rabbit and then the same rabbit but in different colors or levels).  Also, this game requires you to force group meaning at a certain level playing by yourself is impossible unless you are a beast master.  Group fights constitutes about 80% of this game while crafting (which is very expensive to get underway) and PvP constitue for probably 20% of the rest.  I last 2 months in this game....resubscribed and lasted another 3 weeks image Who knows, you may love it

Shadowbane: Played it for 2 months and later needed 120 hours of intensive psycho-therapy. All I can say about that game.

Lineage 2:  Some people love this game some people hate it (I, for one, hate the game). This game is very contraversial as it is currently a touchy subject.  Others love it for its unique PvP and its punishment system that is built into it, hard core hack n slash, and gratiutiuous (sp) boob and butt shots and castle seige scenerios where hundreds can participate in an epic battle to take over a castle.  Others hate it becuase its riddled with back door hackers, unskilled American PR DEVs, paid Chinese sweatshops that hunts 24 hours a day 7 days a week to only sell their stuff on ebay which results in killstealing, greifing and shadey happenings.  Game also has experienced duping and accidental banning of accounts (company accidentally copied the same CD KEY for some games....those peopl who had the same CD key got banned). So play at your own risk.

Ultima Online: Hands down the best 2D mmorpg on the market.  If you can get into 2D, this game is good.  Plus there coming out with Ultima X: Oddyssey which is a 3D and I heard will be good

Dark n Light: not out yet but it will be the first ever seamless server so thats a good thing lol. Also, the lands will experience weather changes as well (some mmorpgs already have this but dark n light is suppose to be better..and it does look better)

    First Player Shooter mmorpg

Planetside:  Good fps. The only problem with it is its a mmorpg.  I just cant pay money a month for a FPS.  It is a good game with a good assortment of weapons and vehicles to choose from. Also the skills you learn and the ships and vehicles you can fly stays on the rserver so you really never loose your skills.  I mainly left because of the colors. I know: its stupid but I couldnt really drive a purple tank around and act all tough

Vanguard:  It looks good and from what their website says about it, it may be a long lasting mmorpg to come.

    MISC

City of Heroes:  If you are into comic book style action and an excellant character customization this is it.  However at level 15 or so, it sorta turns into a casual player mmorpg.  meaning, its a good game to log on....take out some bad guys and missions and log off.  If you're a powergamer, you'll zip through the levels in 3 weeks.

Hope that helps for the original poster

    rofl

old graphics?? one of the best graphics ive ever seen in a mmorpg that people actually enjoy playing (horizons blows, apparently. same with lineage 2)

dark age of camelot is one of the best i've played. seeing as how they are completely revamping the graphics engine in a few months from the graphics it already has, it'll be insanely good looking. give this game a shot if you have nothing to do. you'll be occupied for quite a long time.

Ok Listen En1Gma. You know by now I'm confrontational type of guy. Just to remind you I do a lot of PvP, Bossing (I'm a clan chief), KSing (occasional) in CS and L2 likewise. So my brain is screwed. And most of all I don't enjoy chitchatting.

Now these kinds of overview are what I hate to see most. It pisses me off to the end.

It's like putting finger here and there in front of everybody
when someone are trying to serve fresh food.

Why don't you stick your finger in one sacremental food that you think you like most. Huh? What is this? Some kind PenHouse review fest to screw other people's feed? What are you born to review all these games at one time?

Hell I wished I had that much time. At least I'm not gonna claim that I played all the game that you pretend that you know.

That's why I never stick around my bad finger in other dishes. It is preposterous act and it is great displeasure to others.

Even I wouldn't go as far as claiming that I know much about a certain game that I'm sticking with for several months.

It is rationally impossible for one to play all these MMORPGs to the length that you can be objective about them all at once. Well at least that's how I'm wired in my brain.

So essentially what this leaves me to believe is you are repeating after all the jackass gamers who only plays for a split seconds and think they have a word about a game.

What I think is happening is it's not some "touch subject" that we are talking about here, it's about few jackass like you comes from nowhere and try preach the so-called gospel of MMORPG  (such as Evil-Chinese-Farmer-griefer-KSer vs Happy-Mr-Mojo-Sucksor-I'M-All-In-PEACE).

How about Mr German-French-Alliance-we-have-tendancy-to-cluster-and-exclude-chink-and-jew? Huh? There should be certainly more direct way of saying them. Don't you think?

GM repeatly indicated that IP for bots are mostly from N.A. And some are originated from Europe as well. I know guy from Sweden who runs these bots <--- This is a fact, and sell on EBay. Under what right do you accuse that all botters are from China?

F***CK man this sort of assumption disgust me to death. I have no business of defending Chinese but when I heard this sort of generalization, for some reason it fuucks my brain. Think of non-botting Chinese-American trying to enjoy this game and read this shiiit over and over.... how would you think they would react?

Well that's my view. BTW I don't know what you've been playing but I don't even wanna know their name.

This is how I'm wired. In that respect, I know what I'm talking about.

There are so many choices now that you should try to figure out what type of game you enjoy and then focus on those games.  Because you will be spending considerable time on the game choice you make.  Personally I would look at the top games rated here on mmorpg.com and see which one you like.  Then get yourself a free trial and try them out.

Another important consideration is the community, as the community is the people you will be interacting with after you start playing.  So make sure the community is rated high.  All the top games are in essence great games.

Personally I just made a switch from AO to EVE and find EVE a great game, but again it all depends on what you like.  There is a considerable difference between fantasy games and sci-fi games.  The Sci-Fi games are more "real" while fantasy games are, well fantasy :)

    Have fun.

HebrewBomb, all I can suggest to you is Prozax.  Sheesh, if someone's opinion raises your blood pressure SO high, you might want to delete all forums from your shortcuts and seek RX before you die of a heart attack.  Are you really that intolerant?  Are your opinions about games anything more than an opinion that you are entitled to have and to which I may disagree?  Lighten up guy.  Go get some sunlight and relax.  I'm alittle worried about your stress level.
